That's a big reason why I started this channel, and specifically posted this video. I felt so disheartened for the longest time because I really thought I wouldn't be able to get into any law school without absolutely stellar stats, but there's hope!
Update.. guys her video is showing us that no matter what you have to offer, 1) do SOMETHING to try and stand out (shows that you’re not sitting around) and 2) apply to those hard schools! You never know! Everyone is bound to get accepted somewhere!
I just looked back at your LSAT score reaction video - if you only knew then that you would end up at a great law school in a beautiful city. So proud of you and your journey!
Thank you for this! In most of the videos I have seen, the students are so cryptic about their stats and the process. I applaud you for your efforts and not being afraid to take rejections gracefully. Best of luck to you!
You really seem like a candid person. Happiness and pride don't always come from perfect stats but from your passion and dedication and being able to do what you love. For some reason, this video was very touching and I wish you the best of luck!
Thank you so much for making one of these videos that the vast majority of applicants can relate to. So helpful!! Thank you so much and I hope law school is going well!!
hiii i’m currently in the process of studying for the lsat and trying to get into law school and i just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this and i am so proud of you ❤ good luck in law school and beyond!
As others have said, I really respect the candor. I’ve boomeranged around and was also an NY transplant in Colorado applying to law schools. Like you, CU was my first admission. A great choice, and I knew once you laid out all your options that that was what you would choose. I didn’t go to law school in Colorado, but I ended up back here (at least for the time being). When you’re open to experience life is rarely what you expect it will be. Congratulations and good luck on your second semester exams and in your career.
Hi! My stats are around the same. I’ll admit I’ll be a late applicant (taking LSAT in Feb, maybe April). All you need is one yes to your dreams! Congrats on your law school choice 🎉
I have a cousin who never studied much,we studied together but she gives most of her time to her phone than studies after writing the LSAT she passed and I failed😣, I asked her how she did it, just found out she got her help from Mr Thomas ..
I have similar stats! This is super exciting ❤️❤️ I'm so happy for you! Im so nervous bc I'm doing the 2024-2025 cycle. Hopefully it'll go well for me, I'm def subscribing to you and following your journey!
Hi Alina! I also go to U of R and am applying this cycle. Thank you for sharing your application processs. Wish you the best in your law school journey!
This was really encouraging, I had a 3.7 in undergrad but kept a 4.0 for my MPA and was worried my GPA in undergrad would kill chances applying at CU or DU in Colorado. Super helpful, thanks for sharing your LSAT score, too. I got a 165 and thought I'd be competing against nothing but high 160s.
Yo, U of R REPSRESENT!!! I am a Take 5 this upcoming year myself (Double degree Physics & Applied Math). Congrats on your admits, and best of luck in the future!
I struggled with the LSAT. Taking it once more in February, hoping to break 160. Have a 3.5 GPA but lack experience. Hoping to get into UH or at lest south texas
Alina this video is so refreshing and down to earth. I begin law school this fall at Vermont Law School and it's good to have someone on RUclips whose journey I can follow as I progress through 1L. Congratulations on beginning law school. I hope you get an opportunity to support the football team there, lol.
Insightful video. I admire your positivity and brutal honesty... Can you do a review on 1L law school required and essential textbooks? I don't know if that's too much to ask of you. But, keep it up.Thanks.🇬🇾
Hi Alina! I have a similar GPA and story regarding the drop in my grades in college, I have some questions if you don’t mind 😊 and congratulations on your acceptances!!!
How did you discuss the drop in grades? Was it in your addendum? I also had a drop in grades in the beginning but deans list in my last two years. Thank you in advance!!
Interesting, thanks for sharing. I’m surprised you got accepted into so many schools(not a dig btw) as going off of the 509’s you’re under both the 25th percentile for both gpa and lsat at many of those schools. I guess stem might’ve boosted you along with solid softs.
I hear you lol, like I said pretty much every school was a reach school for me! Very grateful to have been accepted to so many schools, especially as it gave me options to choose from.
Hi Alina! I'm from Rochester myself I went to Binghamton University and I have a similar gpa I'm taking my LSAT in November and am shooting for the 160 range but I know it can be tough, I'm also a little bit of an older student 37, do you think my gpa would affect my application negatively.
Thanks for this comment! It is so hard to say, since every school does admissions differently, but I think what will help the most is writing a supplemental essay on your GPA and perhaps some factors that attributed to it (at least that's what I did). Best of luck with your applications!
congrats on accepting your offer to Colorado! I think you mentioned you had a 155 with a 3.2 GPA. I was wondering what the GPA and LSAT score was for Colorado's 25th percentile when you applied. On LSD it mentions it is 159 with a 3.45 as of today. Was that the same last year? Thanks a lot your videos are helpful!
So in undergrad I did research in neuro oncology and then post grad I was a MA in cardiology, still quite a switch up to law! I go more in depth in this video ruclips.net/video/62QlN8Ll90k/видео.html but basically I realized that medicine really wasn't my calling, and that I could still have a big impact in law!
@@alinaatlaw That’s amazing - I only asked because I had the same exact experience. Took the MCAT, scored well but was a sick kid and frustrated with the system. Starting law school this fall 🤘🏼
You definitely weren’t getting into Columbia Law School with a 3.26 GPA and a 155 LSAT score. they look for students who have at least a 3.7 GPA and an LSAT score in the 170s. Congratulations on getting into Colorado. I hope you had a few application fee waivers for all of those law schools you applied to. That’s a lot of money to be spending, unless you just didn’t care.
Hi Alina! Such a treat to see your video pop up today! Huge congrats on all of your acceptances!!! You deserve it and are worthy of much more. Boulder is a very cool place to be for the next 3 years, it's a great school - you're going to do exceptionally well! I'll be going to Seattle U Law - that's where I had the best vibe plus cost and scholarship. So excited and anxious - looking forward to seeing how it goes. Thanks and have a great week!
I did receive scholarships from some schools, but at the University of Colorado I did not qualify for any merit based scholarships this first year. I'll be applying this spring though to hopefully get some scholarships for 2L and 3L.
As each of these law schools has a several hundred dollar application fee, unless your family is made of money, this is a complete waste. Cut it down to 5 at most.
They are not “several hundred dollars” each, they are typically $50-$85 max and many schools have no fee at all. On top of that, many schools automatically waive the fee if you express interest, and fee waivers are also not hard to get at some schools just by asking nicely. Additionally, it’s not a “complete waste” to apply to many schools, because it increases your chances of getting good scholarships, which you can then either use to weigh your options or use as a bargaining chip to try to get a better scholarship from your school of choice. It’s likely that most people who clicked on this video are interested in going to law school in at least some capacity so please don’t spread misinformation like this ❤️
@@MadiBooMonkey Not any misinformation. Simple common sense. There is a reason why most law students, are sons and daughters of already successful and wealthy lawyers. Because money is no object to them. This young lady has applied to several prestigious law schools. Probably looking at $ 80 to 100 thousand a year, or more. The student loans will be astrononic. Plus transportation to and from school, if it's far away. Also housing, and other living expenses, educational supplies, entire wardrobe of new clothes, computer, phone and Internet service, Starbucks coffee a few times a day, gym membership, hair and beauty treatments, tanning salon, scented candles, bar visits, etc. The basic necessities of life for a young female law student, of course.
Thank you so much for this comment! I can promise you that my family is not made of money lol, and while applying for law school can be expensive, there are so many different ways to finance it. Just as you said so many schools will give you fee waivers, but many people don't know that it's as easy as asking for it!
Thank you for this comment, because it gives the the chance to address a few things. I do not come from money, neither of my parents are lawyers, nor are any of my family members. I paid for my applications on my own, and I will be paying for my law school tuition and cost of living on my own. I applied to prestigious law schools because I had the incredible opportunity to attend a prestigious undergraduate university through the help of generous scholarships and loans. As I explained in the video, there are so many ways to finance law school applications as well as the cost of attending law school, especially for lower income students. As a first generation law student, it is so important for me to share my journey to help the next generation of lawyers navigate this profession who also don't have people in their life to help them through it. I am so incredibly fortunate and thankful to be attending law school, but it is something I have worked hard for and do not take lightly. Putting all that aside, it is up to each person to decide how they want to allocate their budget, and what is most important to them, whether they come from money or not.
Well, that's all wonderful. But it doesn't take too much to figure out that most people in law school, are the sons and daughters of wealthy lawyers, who went to the same law school. They want to keep it a private club, among themselves
3 mins in and THIS is the most relatable video i've seen. seen too many 3.8-4.0 and 170+ LSAT score vids recently lol
That's a big reason why I started this channel, and specifically posted this video. I felt so disheartened for the longest time because I really thought I wouldn't be able to get into any law school without absolutely stellar stats, but there's hope!
5 months in, 176, 3.97 and I can confidently tell you it doesn’t always go the way you expect even with high stats ☹️
U were a STEM major so they probably cut u some slack on the GPA.
Bio is signficantly harder than a major like poli-sci@@alinaatlaw
Much like with undergrad decision videos, I understand the value of watching a variety of students.

i'm sorry for your plight my friend but i was once in your shoes before i was recommended to Mr Thomas and thats how i passed LSAT

I had one school reach out for an optional informational interview, but no other interviews!
Hi friend, question- Where does it show you your newly calculated LSAC CAS gpa once you send in your transcripts? Thanks
It's been a little bit since I've checked but I belief on your CAS reports where the GPA is shown that is the calculated GPA.
