The whole PA umbrella can be confusing for many trained and untrained educators but that's no reason to take shortcuts when releasing content as important as this! You did an excellent job of explaining everything! It is the most accurate explanation of phonological awareness on RUclips. FYI I don't know if hashtags work in the comments, but I'll try anyway 🤷♂lol #mustwatch #teachenglish #learnenglish #esl
Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️ I totally agree that it can be so confusing, but it's so important to understand it. I did not comprehend it at all in college and not fully until about my 5th year of teaching. Once I understood it though, I wanted to break it down in a simple way for others to understand 😊
Thank you for this amazing video. After all my years teaching kinder I still appreciate videos focusing on the foundational skills our kiddos need and the great ideas to teach them. Thank you so much!
You're so welcome and thanks so much for your comment! ❤️ And it's so sad that your experience is many future teachers' experience, including myself. I wanted to summarize and condense this important topic because I know I did not understand it when I took an early literacy class in college.
Incredible. Possibly the best video I've watched in the 10 years I've been on RUclips. Came for the phonemic awareness for my son, I know your resources will help him. School are not meeting his needs. Will let you know progress..
Excellent video. I am learning so much and feel absolutely more confident than I was. Just a quick note. I saw where the word "balloon" was shown to have 3 syllables. I didn't know that! I always broke it down to 2. Very Interesting. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
That's wonderful to hear! I'm glad it's helpful. Thank you for your comment! And where did you see that about balloon? It does have 2 syllables, bal-loon.
Are you a bilingual teacher? I just wanted to tell you that I love watching your videos. I am not a native Englush speaker, my first language is Spanish and I am about to start my certification as a teacher here in Texas and your videos are helping me a lot. Thank you very much! 😃👍👍

@@PreferablyPreK I teach first grade in CA. I will definitely be sharing you video with my grade level since we have students who need these foundational skills.

I want to help my dyslexic child with phonological and phonemic awareness but she is older and become offended when she sees such little childish words, is there a program with bigger words as to not make her feel like she’s doing baby work?
Hi there! The only program that comes to mind is Heggerty. Here is the link to one of their resources, you can browse and determine if it would fit your child's needs. Hope it helps: heggerty.org/product/bridge-the-gap-intervention/
I have heard of Heggerty, but only because of the Kinder Tribe teacher Facebook group. It's a very helpful group and teachers have shared the pros and cons of it and how they make it work with their class. I did see that you can download a free sample of it from their website and if you need to invest in your own phonics curriculum, it's not too expensive...
Heggerty is phonemic awareness curriculum. But it is not a phonics curriculum. Heggerty has many parts and many teachers seem to break up the lesson through out the day. Or they may skip to segmenting and blending because these skills have the most benefit for reading. There is new research that suggests that tying sounds with grapheme as soon as possible has greater benefit than just phoneme alone.
Did you have an "aha" moment? 🤔
The whole video 😂❤❤❤
You did a fantastic job of not only scaffolding, but explaining and providing strong instructional routines aligned to the WHY and the HOW!
Thank you so much for your feedback! I appreciate it 😊
