      Truthfully ,you have to learn how to enjoy your craft. Anything that you want to pursue must be loved and understood as a way of life. essentially this becomes your life. If you dont like this profession enough to give your life to it then there is no point in pursuing it. At Every job 6 to 5 days a week is required of you, that is just how life is you will work 70% of your existence until you die. Create a business and channel passive income or work until you die.

      @@GradLifeGrind how did you guys decide to do a PhD? I’m still in undergrad for another year or so but i feel like i can’t decide. I like the idea of doing therapy one on one in private practice but also i’m finding research to be rather interesting.
      I’m just wondering if i should do the LPC MFT LCSW or a PhDZ Any thoughts?

    Thank you for this video! I am starting my masters degree in psychological science this Fall! Every day my mind wavers on whether or not I wanna go as far as a PhD in clinical psych. I am scared about the competitiveness, having to move to a different state most likely, and the fact that I eventually want to start a family with my husband. 😭

    Would love to watch a video on CBT! Curious about how the class is structured to teach delivery of CBT. Do you guys get clinical cases that the professor walks you through?

    • @GradLifeGrind
      @GradLifeGrind  4 года назад +1

      Awesome! I’ll definitely cover it. Right now my class is part lecture and part video so we watch a therapy training video where a therapist is delivering cbt to a client so we can see how it is in action.

    Hey this is so cool to hear about your PhD life!! I was wondering about your clients. Are you given clients as part of your supervision aspect of your PhD program or are you working privately on the side? Thanks!!

    • @GradLifeGrind
      @GradLifeGrind  3 года назад

      I cannot work privately on the side without a license. As part of the training requirements for clinical psych PhD programs, I see clients under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. We meet weekly for several hours to review cases, watch session video clips, etc. It's how we get trained.

    Hello! Thank You for this detailed video! I am applying psychology at university this year as a bachelor degree and I was wondering-" can you become a clinical psychologist only with a Master Degree or you definitely have to get through a PhD? I've heard that it's almost impossible to get accepted in a PhD program and that worries me a lot. The other thing that I was considering of becoming is a Physiotherapist. I long to help people and psychology is so interesting to me but I really need advice from a clinical psychologist like you whether to take on this path.

    • @fatgeisha4685

      It depends on your country and where you live, for example in Oklahoma, USA you have to have a Ph.D. to be a licensed psychologist but you can be a counselor or therapist with a master's. As for your Ph.D. worries, there are tons of programs, at least in America, that accept students. Typically doctoral students have to move somewhere to get into a program (once they're accepted). So apply, apply, apply, apply! Just make sure that faculty there will have similar interests to what you're wanting to be researching and specializing in, otherwise you'll have a really fun time (sarcasm).

    Great video and thanks a lot for it! However, at 10:43, you talk about how one’s value is not lower or higher based on the amount of work he/she does, and I’m not quite understanding that. If value is the worth or usefulness of something/someone, why does a productive person have the same value as an unproductive person? Doesn’t carrying a load make you a more reliable and competent person, therefore increasing your value? You also say that there is no trophy for being busy and no trophy for overworking yourself. If we’re gonna get literal, sport stars win trophies by being busy with their crafts and by putting everything on the line. I mean, from how you describe your average week, it seems like you are very busy yourself. Your trophy from being busy will be a Ph.D. And maybe under the surface, your trophy will be accomplishing something very difficult. Would like to hear your thoughts :)

    • @GradLifeGrind
      @GradLifeGrind  3 года назад +5

      Hi, I see your points. It's my personal belief that every person is inherently valuable and worthy of kindness, basic needs for survival, joy, and more. People who spend more time working are no more valuable than those who spend more time off. The idea that you are a more valuable person if you work more or make more money is capitalistic. Although there are material rewards for productivity (e.g., money, PhD, etc.), those rewards aren't everything especially if they come at a cost to our wellbeing.
