    I lived there when we were stationed over there. Southern Germany, Bavaria, there are def less people who speak English but I assure you that people do speak it. They might just be acting like they don't. It's one of the prettiest and kindest places I've lived though. Enjoy your time there!!!

    Germany is AWESOME!! I learned just enough German to ask very important questions... still often "hand gestures " worked best.. LOL I loved Germany though... Stuttgart was the second City for me after landing in Frankfurt getting off the wrong train in MannHeim and Heidelburg.. but in the end I loved it... went back 3 more times after that.

    I go to Germany for the Christmas markets, and the majority of people I come across speak at least some English. But I don’t just randomly talk to people. I only talk to service people in tourist areas.

    "Nobody speaks English" (3:00): That's not true, but probably nobody understood what you meant by "bathroom". If you're looking for a public toilet, say so. We don't use camouflage words for what we mean.

    How funny with the English speaking problem. I have not found that when I visited Nuremberg. I have visited 3 times. It is really unusual because most Germans speak some English because they do it at school. Nuremberg is so beautiful. I love it.

    Out of all the videos I've watched of Americans traveling or living in Germany you are the only ones saying that people don't speak English. Also, if you want to post an informative video you should have read a little bit about those underground tunnels. They weren't used for torture at all. They were built for beer and wine storage. In WW2 when Great Britain and the USA destroyed 95% of downtown Nuernberg civilians used it as shelters. Maybe check out some historical facts! Many, many civilians who did not want war were killed!

      It's sad to see that Germany here is reduced again down to 2 things, Nazis and Octoberfest. I usually like Tim and Fins travel videos but now I have to think about them more seriously since I cannot really trust the shown information. I'll watch them anyways because I like the gnereal vibe but that will be it.
      But that's the thing nowadays with all the media stuff everybody is overwhelmed. One has to build up media competence to filter the information and create some kind of objective picture

    Kind of weird, when people who don't have a decent command of any second language complain that people in a foreign country don't speak their language

    dont expect that people junger than 16 or older than 40 can speak in proper english to you
    most people that speak englisch live in big citys
    but seams like nürmberg doese not count as one
    like me i live in Leipzig wich is a big city in Saxony Germany
    Also bavaria is a bit diffrient from the rest.

    • @JimBobele
      @JimBobele 3 года назад +1

      Guy, what are you talking about? Maybe eastern german where russian was taught at school. Of course many, many people over 40 speak english. Almost everybody up to the age of 60 I know speaks english

    • @YukiTheOkami
      @YukiTheOkami 3 года назад

      @@JimBobele of cause they know english thats not what i ment.
      My grandmy was ablento understand and speek english cause after the fall fell her job required it. My fathernlernednit by him self. Hes 51 now. But beside of what they are interested in or what they have to know they dont know much.
      And their english is stiff or a bit funny.
      And as far as i know from bavarian frinds its quite comon that simply out of a mood many people there dont want to speek english especially the older population.
      I mean the joung population is not as advanced and old peoplenofften just dont want to. Or they never had to lern it and that is not an east west thing. Has nothing to do with it.
      Its more a question of mentality. And of cause many old people do speek english but just as many dont. So there is a good chance you pulling out someone who does not know what you want. Or rather understands but cant answer. While asking someone for the way whos 17 to 40 you are asured to get an answer

      @@YukiTheOkami I absolutely disagree with your "older than 40" statement. Move it up 20 years than I'm in. Guess my age ;-)
      I'm not sure about the year but since the late fifties/early sixties english is a mandatory language at school for at least 6 years. So there is a broad basis. Of yourse if one is not practising it's gone quite fast. But I'm quite sure the basics stay. Fluent is a different story

  • @nea3769
    @nea3769 3 года назад

    Well as a German, I'm a bit upset how you portraied my country. You seem to have concentrated on the bad stuff while you go ooooh and aaah in almost every other video. First of all, almost all young people speak English, try to find some young people, ideally university students, they should be fluent.
    Second, two beer festivals in one video is really overdoing it. You should have done the Nuremberg inner city and castle and then the Oktoberfest, for example. It seems you're just feeding that cliché Americans seem to entertain that Germans don't do anything for fun except go to beergardens and are some kind of primitive folk.
    The Nazi stuff I get, that's just part of historical education when travelling to Germany and is a must, although as Germans, we cannot hear it anymore to be honest, we never hear the end of it from school to uni and now even in leisure videos. But you could maybe have focused on the technological advanced state of the country by showing more of BMW world and its new range of electrical cars, at least more than a few photos. I don't even know why your heating at your acoomodation didn't work, in Germany almost every house has central heating, most have floor heating and you just turn a knob. You seemed not ideally prepared, I mean how can you not find food in the inner city of Nuremberg for over two hours, you literally get bombarded with bratwurst everywhere. If you can travel through Asian countries, certainly you can figure out the German S-Bahn or U-Bahn if you have internet at home. So many cafés have WIFI. Or maybe download an offline map like Offmaps. If you show your phone screen to anyone, they should be able to point you to the right train or look it up on their app. You made it sound like Germany got stuck in medieval times or maybe 1940s time...

    This is such a typical American arrogance to complain about not speaking English here. Correct, in Germany they speak German. Fortunately.
