If you want to see what all of the fuss is about, there’s a free trial up through the first expansion. We’re talking easy 2 to 300 hours of gameplay before you even get to the stuff you have to pay for.
"500 hours" i'm at 1800 in 2 years dude... Yeah the game is awesome and i'm not a hardcore player on one game usually i play a lot of thing but FF XIV... it's incredible The game don't feel like a drug but the soundtrack feels like it and i can't get enough of it Endwalker have been delay from 2 week, it's not hard for me for the gameplay/story but for the soundtrack xD

9000 hours in 6 years?! You have me beat. I thought my 6000ish hours in 8 years was pretty impressive but clearly people invest more time than I lol. On the plus side now I don't feel quite so embarrassed having blown 6k hours in a video game, lol.
@@everyonethinksyoureadeathm5773 16k hours?! Good god when do you find the time to sleep? lmao. In all honesty though the game is amazing and I always, ALWAYS find myself being distracted from what I intended to do.
And it's amazing that the only miss (imo) is normal battle theme (Re-encounter?). It would be much better if ear grating intro didn't take 80% of the song
@@Carsu12 I think the intro to rencounter is just so sudden, and getting it thrust on you any time you happen to run too close to a treant or whatever feels a bit much.
On top of that, he wrote the entire score not knowing if he would even be alive for another expansion. He literally wrote, composed and even recorded parts of "To The Edge" while in the hospital. It's the reason the score has so much soul in it.
Insanity is the name of the song, and I think that fits that insane piano part, lol. Innocence is the boss name. When you come up to him the first time, you're like, wtf why is this guy called Innocence? If a character you've met is previously a boss, they usually give a different name for the boss from the character, so it lets players talk about the "Innocence" boss battle without spoiling for other players who that refers to. Although the name Innocence does make sense in a rather twisted way when you learn about his past.
Hey look at me replying to a month's old comment, but the name Innocence is actually pretty ingenious when you think about the names for most of the non Light Warden sin eaters who're some variation of 'Forgiven ____', implying the transformation in some way forgives the transformed of their transgressions. But, because he was born a Sin Eater, he had no sins to 'forgive'; thus making him 'Innocent'.
@@Xyonai3112 And I find it interesting that the light wardens themselves are named after the different Greek words for love; Philia (brotherly love, according to it's Triple Triad card), Storge (familial love), and Eros (ahem... "physical" or passionate love).
My experience of this boss was getting pumped up to fight him and getting excited when I saw his back splitting open to make way for the 'wings' that appear. And immediately being brought back down to Earth as my boyfriend who I was going through the main story quest shouts, as the new form was revealed: "Oh no, he's hot."
As for the fight, its one of the hardest boss battles in the main story questline, given its a multi-phase boss battle and the final lightwarden/a critical turning point in the story of Shadowbringers.
And if you can believe it, the story of this game is just as good as the music, and they fit and weave together so perfectly that it brings tears to your eyes.
The peak of the MMO genre right here. Honestly, I like Heavensward almost as much and it was more consistently good across the whole expansion, but the high points in this one are REALLY REALLLLLLLLLY high.
"What is your experience with this boss" What is my experience with this boss? My experience with this boss is that halfway through the fight I screamed "OH NO HE'S HOT!" He's a very easy to despise antagonist, but one amazing thing that XIV does that I love, is they don't do one-dimensional characters. Finally getting to beat the shit out of this asshole was made a bit bittersweet because of that.
Technically, they *occasionally* do one-dimensional characters. But even when they do, they make the character astoundingly fun and/or insane. (And the insanity is kinda fun in and of itself.)
@@tunoddenrub I can think of one antagonist I considered lame and one-dimensional- and that's Grynewaht. He was just generic saturday morning cartoon henchman #3. though after the third time we beat him up and let him run away, his bosses turn him into a mechanical monstrosity, so there's some pathos there I suppose.
@@Keira_Blackstone He seems lame, yeah. But he plays the minor villain role well. He doesn't have some grand plan or extraordinary trump card, he plays the cards as they're dealt and tries to deal with the consequences of his failures. Unfortunately, his lot is chosen when he can't overcome us by his own capability.
I really appreciate these reactions to XIV music, because it makes me realise how much I take the games amazing soundtrack for granted. I'm so used to every song sounding amazing that I barely register the unique aspects making each one great beyond just 'sounds really good like usual' most of the time. Thanks for helping me gain new appreciation for all these wonderful songs!
Also, I believe Soken has said only something like 30-40% of the tracks are performed with live instruments mostly due to time limitations. Most of the compositions are via DAW. Some back of the envelop math comes out to about 6-10 tracks per month, plus he isn't just the composer but also sound director, and before getting into composition professionally he got his start in sound effects. He's incredibly resourceful in using the tools at his disposal, for example the vocals most of the earlier tracks are either from sound libraries if it's generic wordless vocals, or either himself or someone from the dev team does the singing and filters are added in post. In a 2016 FanFest live concert he performs a track on piano and cardboard box. As in he literally kicks a cardboard box as a percussion instrument. Actually I wasn't sure what my next request was going to be, but I think that's it!
IIRC the song that Soken played with the cardboard box was The Scars of Battle (The Lost City of Amdapor's theme) Edit: Yup ruclips.net/video/o74q6DTfFnI/видео.html
If you haven't seen it, during a Live Letter-like event earlier this year, Soken showed what Koji's voice is like singing before any filters are added for some songs. It's pretty funny. I can't seem to find the clip on RUclips unfortunately.
I love how at the beginning all the vocals were muffled, but once the monster within broke through his layers of flesh, the vocals became clear. This soundtrack is a work of art, timed so that the song transitions with the fight's phase transitions at minimum item level.
2 more things: the boss is named "innocence", and when I arrived at this scene, it was very emotional. The game really builds up a righteous loathing of this boss, who is supposed to embody indulgence, corruption, and nobility, and the direct cause of just horrific atrocities. He runs from you, or is too far to fight, so there's this enormous tension as the hero finally gets to strike back at this monster, and then this really tranquil intro is a beautiful contrast to the emotions of the player.
Another FFXIV piece I have to recommend as highly as possible is “Mortal Instants” once I’d the most beautifully melancholic pieces in the entire game.
After reading comments I love how as soon as he mentioned 500 hours we all collectively checked our playtimes (something like 4500 for me i think XD) but it really just goes to show how much love there is for the game, and such a huge part of what we love is the incredible and unique music
My experience with this boss was non stop crying. From this point to the end of the expansion, its about 3~ hours. The cut scenes following this trial specifically took my heart and spat on it after stepping on it.
"The road that we walk is lost in the flood. Here proud angels bathe in their wages of blood. At this, the world's end do we cast off tomorrow!" I love this theme. :D Also, might be mentioning El Dorado? Possibly? Glad you enjoyed yourself.
Shadowbringers, as an expansion, deals in one particular trope, "Light is Not Good". A lot of times people seem to assume that Light = Heavenly/Beautiful = Good and in Shadowbringers, that is subverted because while A = B, neither equal C. So Innocence, and the villains of the expansion, appear Heavenly and Beauteous, they are NOT Good. There's also some gaslighting going on in-game with the "Sin Eaters" being named according to their "sins", but those strike me as less "besetting sin" and more "greatest virtues" except *described* as being sinful. Someone who enjoys life might be turned into "Forgiven Cowardice" as a Sin Eater because they were fleeing for their life instead of facing death proudly. Or one who did might be called "Forgiven Bravado". Innocence was named such because he became a Sin Eater while he was still enwombed and, thus, had no traits of any sort to "forgive". This particular song, though, is my absolute favorite in the whole amazing game. It's just so gloriously beautiful and chaotic at the same time. And trying to do this fight while STILL listening to and appreciating this music is a special level of hell. The only fight that's worse is trying to do The Seat of Sacrifice while listening to To The Edge AND knowing about what Soken was going through at the time he wrote it.
Insanity, Innocence's Theme, is itself an even more wild version of the normal boss theme for Shadowbringers, Insatiable. There's just a great flow from Insatiable to Insanity to Who Brings Shadow after getting the taste of that last one in the Shadowbringers main theme.
"The road that we walk, is lost in the flood, here proud angels bathe in their wages of blood. At this the world's end, do we cast off tomorrow." (For whom weeps the storm, her tears on our skin) those are the lyrics repeated in most songs from the FFXIV Shadowbringers Expac and I think this song uses them the best lol
My experience with this boss? Well, the story build up was incredible. Very anticipated fight. Had a fair amount of big AoE mechanics. Over all a fun fight. Obligatory; OH NO! HE'S HOT!
Keep going back to this specific reaction, always, because your excitement towards the track is same and dope knowing someone like self and others can dissect every instrument and vocal while it plays, like every single 'ding' and string touched and everything in the back. it's such an appreciative and underrated natural "skill" or feel for some of us in the under/over world lol. Like, "do you hear that bass back there or those other sounds waaaay in the back?" LOL. Hey, you got a fan of the FFXIV reaction, but a broke one lol for now. I'll jump on the Patreon soon enough Keep the reactions going bro 💯
As some others have said; most bosses have a 'story' version that has a difficulty level that makes it accessible to most people on a single attempt with strangers (so that everyone can enjoy the story and not run into walls that prevent them from advancing), and a more difficult version that offers a challenge and generally needs a good bit of work to learn. Sometimes the harder versions have extra song bits or modified versions of the original song! So since I only did the regular version of the fight it was interesting and fun to learn the mechanics, but easily clearable in one or two attempts. Seeing the transformation had me 👁👄👁 💍. There's actually a really good Japanese artist on twitter who draws a lot of Innocence (the angelic form) that I love, OH, and another good artist who draws Vauthry (the jumbo guy) in very cute comics with their own bunny girl character that make him super funny and human.
In 2017, Final Fantasy XIV set the Guinness Book of World Record for most original songs in a video game at 384 song (including expansions). That was 4 years and like an expansion or two ago. The number has clearly risen since then.
So happy you finally got to this song. Hands down one of my favorite fights. Just everything about it I love, the arena, the music, the mechanics, the sounds of the mechanics, and that God tier piano playing. There's also what happens after the fight that's such a gut punch and feels like everything you've done to try and save the world was completely undone by the fact that your life-force is so corrupted by these bosses that you've become what you tried to destroy. Such an emotional moment in the story.
The titles of FFXIV songs are actually tightly tied to lore and story :) as someone has mentioned already, Innocence is the name of the boss. SIde note: the repeated chorus of "The road that we walk / Is lost in the Flood / Here proud angels bathe in / Their wages of blood / At this, the world's end do we / Cast of tomorrow" is actually the same words as from the Shadowbringers main theme song, one you already reacted to. FFXIV is really big on leitmotifs, and this main theme can be found through the entire expansion, multiple tracks (Insatiable, Innocence, High Treason, The Dark Which Illuminates the World, Knowledge Never Sleeps, etc etc).
This was the video that I can genuinely see the same reaction I had with this fight. For both the music and transformation. Sort of a cold jittery feeling that wants to choke you up.
Oh I see you are reacting to this insane piece of insanity! The fight is so epic - the visual and audio are both literally celestial. This piece is on my top 5 list.
I would love to see him react to The Queen Awakens from FF14. It's got such a commanding marching order feel to it with the deep vocals as well. Hopefully one day he'll be able to take a listen.
U know Jesse. The first part when the boss walks down the stairs, with that music. Now imagine that as we walk down the stairs to open the door for our pizza, with the same energy just like Vaulthry
This along with Return to Oblivion is tied for my favorite song in the game. This is such an incredible song. Occasionally I jump into extreme parties for this boss just to jam to it while playing even though I don't really need anything from it anymore.
Glad you finally got around to reacting to this one. Easily one of, if not my favorite song in the game. The boss fight is also one of my favorites. Very frenetic, with very little breathing room, a lot of stuff happening at once and/or in quick succession. The type of boss fight I'd queue up for and fight again just for the fun of it.
That's the normal mode of Innocence. There's a harder version that we farm for mounts. The Fat Guy is Lord Vauthry who is a main villain, but a lot of the theme here involves his ascendance. Innocence is also his Light Warden title as all the Light Wardens have a Latin name for one of the types of love. Innocence is the love you have for your children. Also, part of what you say is Genreless is trying to capture a gospel sound. *edit* A correction. Storge (also the 4th Light Warden of the 5) Love is Familiar Love. Innocence is Platonic Love. The other bosses are Philia (Brotherly Love, or your love for friends) Eros (Erotic Love), and the unnamed Light Warden that took Titania is Mania (or wild unpredictable love).
I had no idea you liked piano so much for some reason. Might I suggest Edge of Existence from Kingdom Hearts 3? It's kinda slept on because they put it in a place where it only plays for like 30 seconds, but the composer treated it like a full song. It's incredibly heavy on the pianos and a fantastic banger.
Aww missed the premiere but YES I've been waiting for this one! Took the words right out of my mouth about the perfection of the loops and transitions not just here but with the entire game. The piano here in particular is godly and I love the distortion on the vocals (which come from the main theme for Shadowbringers and are the leitmotif of the expansion). Much like everyone else here.... "Oh no he's hot!" We knew of the transformation's name, appearance and existance before ShB came out, but I at least completely blanked on the name connection and was shocked when fat man was actually the guy I had been wondering about all expansion. Also 500? YOU UNDERESTIMATE MY POWER /cry cackles in 10,000 hours/ I've been playing for 8 years don't look at me...
Awesome! So glad you finally got to react to this song Jesse. It is one of my top 5 (like 2 haha) favorite FF14 pieces. I listen to it way to much lol. It’s just an exquisite song!
Hey, Uncle Jesse! New listener and subscriber! Found you a couple days back and I love seeing you go through the XIV soundtracks and fall in love with them just like we did! I know you love the wide variety of genres that XIV has in terms of music, so I think another genre might be fun to add to the mix! I think you'd like "Good King Moggle Mog XII".
If you want to react to one of the more divisive songs in FFXIV, "What Angel Wakes Me" would be that track. It's the boss theme for the Pixie king Titania. I remember a lot of people not liking it when it first came out. Be warned though, it's an ear worm if you end up liking it lol
When he was a baby, Vaultry (the fat man) is transformed into a monster. As he grows, he commits many awful crimes and becomes the leader of the monsters(Sin Eaters) of this expansion. Very easy to hate because he treats people like objects or food. If you look at him closely as he descents the stairs, there's a baby face where his heart is supposed to be. Innocence could refer to that baby who never had a chance to become anything other than a monster or perhaps his lack of conscience, like an innocent kid. So when you kick his ass, you get a mixture of 'Fuck yeah!, we killed this asshole" mixed with a sad reality of a being corrupted from birth who never had a real choice. The whole Shadowbringers expansion is full of tragic figures who at first are easy to hate, but when you learn more; it is always sad circumstances. Corrupted from birth like him (Innocence) Driven mad by duty (To the Edge ; you listened to it in the past) Fallen hero who is the last hope of a dead people (You haven't reacted to this one yet :) ) Amazing story that is made even more incredible by the music that sets up all the FEELZ Glad you enjoy them.
My favorite part of your reactions is that you look at the whole overall process and the feelings they want to convey and inspire from an art perspective. If you play many of these fights/games without music it's visually impressive but it's not the amazing experience it is with the music, full stop.
This is so fun to play with first timers. Chat goes wild during the midbattle transformation. "WTF!" "OH NO HE'S HOT" "O-O" It's not a hard boss but it's real fun! One of my faves. As a tank it's the easiest extreme trial in Shadowbringers (what was showed in the video was not the extreme tho). Haven't tried it as a healer or dps as of yet.
There is a palpable shift in genre between Pre-Shadowbringers, which was composed by Uematsu, and Shadowbringers, which is Soken. Uematsu is all about the big sweeping orchestral landscapes and operatic vocals. Soken is rock 'n roll and experimental fusion. And the Nier raids are their own thing. If you listen to any more music from Puppet's Bunker, The Copied Factory, or Tower at Paradigm's Breach, that is music originally from the Nier and Drakengard games remixed for FFXIV. Very distinct from the game's other tracks.
His form is supposed to be of an Angel....specifically St. Michael the Archangel...and you know Final Fantasy they love their mythos and how they love to chew the edges of Christianity... Also the dungeon that leads up to this fight is a allegory of man ascending into heaven. Since the kingdom of heaven is supposed to be adored in marble of the whitest sheen and trims of gold. As other's said for difficulty. Final Fantasy 14 difficulty can be broken up into three distinct tiers. 1st is Story Mode....this is the easies difficulty that is supposed to be accessible to everyone at any skill level. This includes dungeons, Primal Fights and The Raid quests fights. (4-8 players) 2nd Is Savage Mode/Extreme Mode. Extreme Fights are exclusive to Primal (Eikon) bosses within the trials (Infrit, Grauda, Titan, Ravana, Innocence ect). Savage tier is the higher end difficulty for the Raid storyline, The Binding Coil of Bahamut was the only Raid to not have a story mode, however Alexander, Omega, and Eden all have a story and savage aspect. These fights drop weapons and gear, Primals often dropping weapons (at the start of the expansion 1 boss will drop weapons, other boss will drop accessories). The raids will drop High end Gear at max item level and final boss (after every 4 fights) drops a weapon and mount. 3rd is the highest end difficulty. This tier is called Ultimate and specifically it remixes old previous fights (primals or raid tiers) into a boss gauntlet that can last from 16-24 minutes. This demands the highest attention to detail, skill and concentration. Rewards are titles and weapon galmours. Currently there's three Ultimate Fights with one of them being delayed to patch 6.1. [The Unending Coil of Bahamut, The Weapons Refrain, and The Epic of Alexander]. This tier is optional and its pretty much in the game for those who want a challenge.
I hope one of your patreons asks, or has asked for ffxiv Civilizations, followed, of course, by la-hee perfomed by soken in the fanfest. Watching these 2 back to back will make you trully understand the genius of soken.
I love this fight, I can't emphasize it enough and it's mostly due to the music. My favorite part is that abrupt stop and when it drops back in; every time I do this fight I'm hyped for that part in specific and have to avoid headbanging to the rock portion. This fight has two instances; this version in the video which is part of the main story as a sort of prelude to the big finale portion of the expansion story and a second version that's just a harder version of the fight where you fight only the second angelic form (Innocence). I can think of a number of fights like this though, where the mechanics, the atmosphere, the music all hits just right and I feel the desire to go back again and again and again (like Return to Oblivion). Also I feel like it's worth noting that this fight is a perfect lead up because the story cutscene afterwards is a huge emotional devastation, the "everything is going wrong, all hope feels lost" part of the story so to speak. Also everyone is somewhat traumatized by the evil fat guy turning into this beautiful angel man, almost every run I get someone saying "Oh no he's hot" in the chat.
You can't lose focus with these. As an 8 year player I've heard everything and you bring back that first time hearing these excitement. With your music knowledge these are even better
As a Swing/Jazz DJ and a person who teach dancers how to hear the music better, I always enjoy listening other people what they find in the songs. There were days when I probably couldn't hear all those nuances, but I got there, and It''s a blast now, to hear every song to it's core details and be able to hear every instrument separately and with others the same time. That's why I love FF music, because in XIV especially they strive to give us so many different feelings and ideas and propositions, that I could drown in that music. I have around 2000 hours and I never even once thought to maybe listen something else while playing the game. Many times I like to come back to specific raids/boss battles, only because I miss the music and that feel. Cheers for all good work and for spreading FF passions! ;)
This was such a badass moment in the FFXIV! My favorite part of the song were the trumpets just blaring. Just gives you that "The Hero Arrives" vibe. I cannot wait for Endwalker's OST, it's gonna send us to the moon!
It's one of the flashier story fights, I was so stoked when I saw the cutscene leading up to it. And then they hit us with this masterpiece of a song and had the boss catfish us. *chef kiss*
This boss has 2 versions, the version in the video is the easy story mode version that every player needs to beat to continue with the story. Then there is an (Extreme) version that people can fight to get gear. Innocence in both versions was considered easy because was shadowed by Titania (another boss released at the same time).
YESSSSS I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO MAKE THIS ONE this is inarguably one of the best themes in the whole game PERIOD, not only because of how incredible the fight itself is, but because what it all means to the story probably top 2 for me behind To the Edge tbh
This boss you have been chasing a while in the game. And this is the final culmination of part of this exspansions story. So an Amazing fight pushed to greater hights by amazing music.
11:30 yep, hard boss on the first runs, cuz there's a dps check ( you must deal enough damage at a certain stage or else he one shots the whole party )
I'm only 11 days playtime in the game, but your reacts give me a chance to close my eyes and listen to the music itself. And even in this one you hear multiple different main themes from different parts of the game woven in. The solo violin gives me that impression.
Innocence is the name of the boss. Insanity is the name of the song. And no, Insanity is definitely not a random name. It's VERY thematically accurate. As for my experience with the boss.. it's a hell of a climax. And the music definitely fits there, too. This dude is.. BASICALLY the Big Bad of the expansion. Initially, anyways. Stuff happens that reframes the narrative pretty quick and it's.. VERY jarring, but generally speaking? This is a very climactic fight. Is it hard? No, not really, the only point you'd wipe on is the tethered add phase if people don't kill in the proper order. Absorbs too much energy and obliterates the party, standard stuff. Beyond that it's pretty free. But definitely fun; I never hate fighting this guy. And yes. OH NO HE'S HOT definitely applies. As is said by literally everyone. By the time you reach this guy (and it's definitely a guy, he's strongly referencing Gilgamesh.. no, not our favourite red Greg, I mean ancient Babylonian Gilgamesh. I THINK that's where he's from, anyways) his face is looking mighty punchable. Then he transforms, and while he still looks mighty punchable, it's much harder to. I also get Babylon vibes from the architecture, but that's just me, probably. The guy sees himself as a physical god over the light, which also explains what he turns into. Long story short, he's not actually transforming willfully. Nor does he have any control over the forms appearance- but it does have a bit of a reference in his beliefs and feelings, if I recall correctly. But stating this flat out, ancient history isn't a strong point of mine, so I could very easily be mistaken on Gilgamesh's origins. Someone mentioned El Dorado as well earlier, the Lost City of Gold, but that's strictly a Spanish myth and definitely NOT what's happening here. Good guess though, given the visuals..
Eden's Gate 1/Force Your Way (FFXIV Ver.) is another lovely one you should check out at some point~ Originally from FF8, but was rearranged for a couple of FF8-inspiried battles in XIV.
You know, I know that Hades theme has been suggested on here and that you've covered it. But I think the next one to shoot for would be invincible. It's my personal favorite of the shadowbringers track! Amazing piece and in the moment where it plays it's absolutely perfect
"What is your experience with this boss?" Well, he's got two difficulty levels: Normal and Extreme. Normal is basically everyone saying "OH NO HE'S HOT", so I just type "Say the line, Bart" whenever the game's Roulette system puts me in it. Extreme was a very fun challenge to complete with my friend group, even if most people can steamroll it these days. Overall, one of the more fun bosses this expansion, with yet another banger of a track under it.
First, love ur video and thank you for the great reaction. To answer ur questions. Fighting this boss for the first time as a blast although track did cause my death in the fight more then once. To give my feedback on what to call this the genre of music, its " a good time". Thanks again and I look forward to your future success.
The genre of Final Fantasy music is "Final Fantasy music." XD Which could arguably be split into the subgenres of "Uematsu" and "Soken". The interesting thing is, I'd say Uematsu actually went harder on percussions while Soken tends to be more orchestral. You can see this when you compare the FFV version of Exdeath's battle theme with FFXIV's version of it from the Omega raids. Same deal with the FFVIII version of "The Legendary Beast" vs. the FFXIV version of the same piece.
So as of 2017, when Stormblood the 3rd expac was out Sokens record was 384 songs. This has gone up since Shadowbringers and now with Endwalker will go up again. So probably happily around 500 songs he's worked on.
Husky by the Geek has made a guitar cover of this with Alex Moukala which I feel like you might like. And yes, the mad lad went and learned to play the piano arpeggios on guitar as well.
Unsure if this has been recommended before, but Rise is the final song from the Alexander series. It also has a remix from the Pulse album and I definitely recommend listening to both back to back to see how they made the same song two different ways
FFXIV is filled to the brim with amazing music, one of the mods i use lets me play any of the music whenever i want, and i sometimes end up spending a couple hours doing nothing but listen to music ingame, and it makes me happy to see someone else enjoy the music as much, if not more, than me.
As much as the soundtrack is amazing, a lot of it works hand in hand with how the fights work and flow. Both work in tandem to enhance the other and create something amazing.
so yeah, you remember when i said that pianist from primogenitor flew into space? this is where they landed, 3 expansions later. and their still absolutely destroying the piano.

The craziest thing about FF14 trial music is that how it all lines up so perfectly with boss transitions.
Soken aim is to improve the gameplay experience. so far it is working really well.
And Titan was the first to do it, all hail Titan!

On top of that, he wrote the entire score not knowing if he would even be alive for another expansion. He literally wrote, composed and even recorded parts of "To The Edge" while in the hospital. It's the reason the score has so much soul in it.
Jesse : "What are your experiences with this boss"

"Now I see why you guys put 500 hours into the game."
Yes, 500 hours... totally not 4800 hours... >__>
326 days and 7 hours lol
Yeah, I totally don't have 35,000 hours >_>
1480 days >_>
I've been playing since about July and have 490 hours ATM.
Totally NOT 112 days, 19 hours, 57 minutes
Insanity is the name of the song, and I think that fits that insane piano part, lol. Innocence is the boss name. When you come up to him the first time, you're like, wtf why is this guy called Innocence? If a character you've met is previously a boss, they usually give a different name for the boss from the character, so it lets players talk about the "Innocence" boss battle without spoiling for other players who that refers to.
Although the name Innocence does make sense in a rather twisted way when you learn about his past.
Yeah no kidding. Kinda sad really. Was actually kind of innocent in his own way.
In a way, he is innocent. Vauthry doesn’t understand that his actions are immoral and believes that everything he does is right.

16750+ and counting (not include endwalker)
My experience of this boss was getting pumped up to fight him and getting excited when I saw his back splitting open to make way for the 'wings' that appear.
And immediately being brought back down to Earth as my boyfriend who I was going through the main story quest shouts, as the new form was revealed: "Oh no, he's hot."
Gotta love Keiko's mad piano skills.
And what happened is that the boss transcended his human half to achieve his true lightwarden form.
As for the fight, its one of the hardest boss battles in the main story questline, given its a multi-phase boss battle and the final lightwarden/a critical turning point in the story of Shadowbringers.
@@Redblaze27 it was hard because the their distracting beauty lol jk
@@Redblaze27 ironically though, it’s the easiest Extreme fight in shadowbringers.

And if you can believe it, the story of this game is just as good as the music, and they fit and weave together so perfectly that it brings tears to your eyes.
Tears are MORE than one occasion
The peak of the MMO genre right here. Honestly, I like Heavensward almost as much and it was more consistently good across the whole expansion, but the high points in this one are REALLY REALLLLLLLLLY high.
"What is your experience with this boss"
What is my experience with this boss?
My experience with this boss is that halfway through the fight I screamed "OH NO HE'S HOT!"
He's a very easy to despise antagonist, but one amazing thing that XIV does that I love, is they don't do one-dimensional characters.
@@tunoddenrubasahi
I really appreciate these reactions to XIV music, because it makes me realise how much I take the games amazing soundtrack for granted. I'm so used to every song sounding amazing that I barely register the unique aspects making each one great beyond just 'sounds really good like usual' most of the time. Thanks for helping me gain new appreciation for all these wonderful songs!
Thanks for the wonderful comment ^_^
What I like about this song is the use of the lietmotif for the expansion as a bridge... so good!
Jesse: "Now I see why you guys put 500 hours into the game"
Me: *glances at over 3000 hours and counting* "Haha... Yeah... 500 hours..."
IIRC the song that Soken played with the cardboard box was The Scars of Battle (The Lost City of Amdapor's theme)
Edit:
Yup ruclips.net/video/o74q6DTfFnI/видео.html
If you haven't seen it, during a Live Letter-like event earlier this year, Soken showed what Koji's voice is like singing before any filters are added for some songs. It's pretty funny. I can't seem to find the clip on RUclips unfortunately.
he also said 60% soundtrack is done by live orchestra
majority later bring recorded orchestrial
As soon as Jesse mentioned he's a fan of piano music, I've been waiting for this song to be featured on his channel. God-tier piano work.
My experience with this boss was non stop crying. From this point to the end of the expansion, its about 3~ hours. The cut scenes following this trial specifically took my heart and spat on it after stepping on it.
In terms of piano, one song I think you'd like is the Great Gubal Library (Hard Mode) theme from FF14.
"The road that we walk is lost in the flood. Here proud angels bathe in their wages of blood. At this, the world's end do we cast off tomorrow!" I love this theme. :D Also, might be mentioning El Dorado? Possibly? Glad you enjoyed yourself.
@@Foogi9000 They were responding to Jesse asking about a city of gold, not the lyrics.
The boss banter really makes this better too
Insanity, Innocence's Theme, is itself an even more wild version of the normal boss theme for Shadowbringers, Insatiable. There's just a great flow from Insatiable to Insanity to Who Brings Shadow after getting the taste of that last one in the Shadowbringers main theme.
Insanity also incorporates a bit of the Crystarium theme, I think?
@@JustSpag Yeah it does have a brief bit of Tomorrow and Tomorrow as well.
@@cerebralisk thought so
"The road that we walk, is lost in the flood, here proud angels bathe in their wages of blood.
HE'S HOT!
You said 500 hours, my heart gave out by that vast underestimation. Love your reactions!
I'll jump on the Patreon soon enough
Keep the reactions going bro 💯
As some others have said; most bosses have a 'story' version that has a difficulty level that makes it accessible to most people on a single attempt with strangers (so that everyone can enjoy the story and not run into walls that prevent them from advancing), and a more difficult version that offers a challenge and generally needs a good bit of work to learn. Sometimes the harder versions have extra song bits or modified versions of the original song!
So since I only did the regular version of the fight it was interesting and fun to learn the mechanics, but easily clearable in one or two attempts. Seeing the transformation had me 👁👄👁 💍.
There's actually a really good Japanese artist on twitter who draws a lot of Innocence (the angelic form) that I love, OH, and another good artist who draws Vauthry (the jumbo guy) in very cute comics with their own bunny girl character that make him super funny and human.
which artist?
I see now… This is the passion of my ascension…
Very well, I shall embrace this trial!
Killed that extreme trial over 150 times, and still love this song, one of my favorites
Honestly its not the full experience without hearing the Bozja themes first (Wind on the Plains / Blood on the Wind).
El Dorado is the name of the City of Gold! The song is glorious, the fight is stellar

Didn't even know you listened to this one. This is one of my favorite tracks
Uncle Jesse, you savored that song like a fine whisky. Bravo!
Yesssss been waiting for this one!! This is one of my most favorite tracks in the whole game!

Thank you Brittany! I'll try my best
Corrupted from birth like him (Innocence)
Driven mad by duty (To the Edge ; you listened to it in the past)
Fallen hero who is the last hope of a dead people (You haven't reacted to this one yet :) )
Amazing story that is made even more incredible by the music that sets up all the FEELZ
Glad you enjoy them.
dont forget how Titania sacrifice herself trying to fight lightwarden. especially if you completed the pixie beast tribe.
"WTF!"
"OH NO HE'S HOT"
"O-O"
It's not a hard boss but it's real fun! One of my faves. As a tank it's the easiest extreme trial in Shadowbringers (what was showed in the video was not the extreme tho). Haven't tried it as a healer or dps as of yet.
This track is cool even after 83 runs to get a dang mount
Was a fun boss. Loved my experience with it. Great music, fun mechanics, and a great moment in the story.
One of my fave songs from FFXIV. I love female vocals in the start which mimic the melody of the erhu. Fantastic!
(4-8 players)
2nd Is Savage Mode/Extreme Mode.
This is the reaction I've been waiting on!
I hope one of your patreons asks, or has asked for ffxiv Civilizations, followed, of course, by la-hee perfomed by soken in the fanfest. Watching these 2 back to back will make you trully understand the genius of soken.
They did!
Piano player shredding really sounds like light shimmering, which is very fitting considering the boss' true nature.
I really appreciate your attention to detail in these reactions 😌👌❤
Thanks!!
Cheers for all good work and for spreading FF passions! ;)
That's awesome! Thanks for letting me know ^_^
When this song played in the FFXIV Launch trailer, it single handedly got me back interested into the game.
Zero disappointment
Titania's song is What Angel Wakes Me? and I'd really love to see your reaction to that one as well.

YESSSSS I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO MAKE THIS ONE
this is inarguably one of the best themes in the whole game PERIOD, not only because of how incredible the fight itself is, but because what it all means to the story

And people wonder why this is my most favorite song in FFXIV so far :D
I put all your reactions to Trial / Raid music on shuffle in a playlist and use that to choose my next activity to do in-game. Thanks =P
This boss you have been chasing a while in the game. And this is the final culmination of part of this exspansions story. So an Amazing fight pushed to greater hights by amazing music.
11:30 yep, hard boss on the first runs, cuz there's a dps check ( you must deal enough damage at a certain stage or else he one shots the whole party )
yes the dude transformed and we players had the exact same reaction first time we saw it too XD
I'm only 11 days playtime in the game, but your reacts give me a chance to close my eyes and listen to the music itself. And even in this one you hear multiple different main themes from different parts of the game woven in. The solo violin gives me that impression.
Awesome!, That's the goal 🤙
Hahaha yes, i really love this game, i played it now for 3 years :) the music and the storyline is just too good.
"What is your experience with this boss?"
Well, he's got two difficulty levels: Normal and Extreme.
Songs (especially ones with lyrics) in FF14 usually follow the story of the situation, and names often make sense lore-wise
The name does indeed tie into the story .
*sweats with 11043 hours and 58 minutes played upon checking. On my main character alone*
I love this game and its music.
If I ever had to make a top 10 of my fav songs from FFXIV, I can guarantee this song would be on there. It's easily my fav trial theme in the game.
The piano goes hard on this song.
As much as the soundtrack is amazing, a lot of it works hand in hand with how the fights work and flow. Both work in tandem to enhance the other and create something amazing.
yep. the transition, mechanic, boss etc. all line up nicely.
so yeah, you remember when i said that pianist from primogenitor flew into space? this is where they landed, 3 expansions later.
and their still absolutely destroying the piano.
Oh damn! The story arc between my reactions saga
