    I am part of the global harmonica community. I guess being interested and involved in the harmonica community over many years has lead me to be elected as Vice-President of HarmonicaUK, and that's quite an honour - the President is Paul Jones from the Manfreds/The Blues Band
    If you love harmonica lessons but don’t love me try Joe Filisko, David Barrett, Tomlin Leckie, Liam Ward, Adam Gussow, Ronnie Shellist and there are others!
    When I heard Elwood Blues playing blues harp in the Blues Brothers film from the 80s, I couldn't get over the crazy sound of the harmonica. I watched the film over and over - even watched it last night! Had to get me a harmonica...
    Seeing Paul Lamb playing the Station Tavern in London was the final straw - I started having lessons from him and became a Sonny Terry nut. From there Little Walter, Big Walter and gradually found out about all the greats.
    Brendan Power introduced me to other players such as Charlie McCoy, JJ Milteau, Howard Levy and then I was hooked !
    I started teaching professionally in 1995 while studying how to teach and began running workshops in London inherited from Brendan Power as he was joining Riverdance. The first lesson in school I taught in was Dulwich College in London and then in Bristol.
    I've had the luck to study personally with Howard Levy (one week residential), Paul Lamb, Brendan Power, Joe Filisko, Richard Sleigh, Carlos del Junco, Sonny Terry (recorded lesson) and in workshops with Charlie McCoy, Lee Oskar, Steve Baker, Keith Dunn, Rick Estrin, Rick Epping, Adam Gussow amongst lots others - and thanks to all of them for the help which I now pass on to other students.
    Performance wise, I have played in many blues bands, and different musical groups as well as performing solo and on cruise ships. I've played on the same bill as Larry Adler in 2000, jammed in concert with Jools Holland and had a long, hilarious and fascinating lunch with Billy Connolly showing him some harmonica techniques he wanted to know about.
    Fine players of the harmonica include Big Walter, Little Walter, Sonny Terry, Sonnyboy Williamson Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Jason Ricci, Adam Gussow, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Robert Plant, Steve Tyler, Taj Mahal, Kim Wilson, Charlie Musselwhite, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Reed, Larry Adler, Dave Gage, Furry Lewis, John Popper, John Sebastian, Neil Young, Bruce Willis, Sugar Blue, William Clarke, Paul Delay, Tom Ball, Mark Hummel, Jerry Portnoy, JJ Milteaux, Rod Piazza, Gary Primich, Rob Paparozzi, Joel Osborne, Shakira Starr, Alanis Morisette, Bono, David Bowie, Darth Vader, John Mayall, John Gindick, Jonny Mars, John Lennon, Allman Brothers, JP Allen.
    Types of music to play to play on the harmonica: Blues, jazz, country, rock, bluegrass, folk, funk, classical, rock, hiphop, rnb, r and b, reggae, r'n'b
    Makers: hohner, seydel, suzuki ,hering, sonnyboysmusicstore.co.uk
    Models: Marine band, crossharp proharp crossover, big river, marine band deluxe, special twenty, special 20, pro-master, blues bender, golden melody, mostly Richter tuned.

    I got one in solo tuning, so like a typical chromatic. The other popular valveless chromatic on the market right now is the easttop forerunner 2.0, and in my opinion, the trochilus beats it in both tone and airtightness.
    From the perspective of someone who was looking for a valveless chromatic, this is geat.

    I'm waiting for a review from someone with a big mustache. Chromatics catch on my face so bad that after I use the slider I can take my hands away and the harmonica will just hang there.
    (That's something I like about the Turboharp... that only affects one reed plate at this point.)

      Unfortunately, as much as I like this harmonica, I cannot endorse it to people with facial hair. It will yank your hair and hurt

    I just ordered a C. Are the normal harp over blows and over draws still the same blows and draws only with the button pressed?
    One reason I play my East Top chromatic in the minor button-in position is so what would be a draw bend on a richter is still a draw note on the same hole with the button.

      Normal overblows are the same as usual either with button in or button out

    Q U E S T I O N -- I've been looking for a standard-tuned (NOT blues) VALVELESS chromatic harmonica in the keys of G or any other EXCEPT C (which I already have way too many). Are all of the Trochilus chromatics sold on Amazon, Walmart, eBay, etc. ONLY in blue tunings??? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

      I got mine from AliExpress. And that list of the tunings. From memory, I think they have Richter tuned - which I think is what you refer to as Blues, Paddy Richter, and pop. I don’t remember if they have solo tuned which I think is what you mean when you refer to chromatic, but anyway look on AliExpress and you’ll see all the options - also on amazon.com I think.

      They are color coded.
      The ones with the blue body are in blues tuning, also called standard richter tuning.
      The ones with red body are in what they call "pop" tuning, also called paddy richter.
      The ones with yellow body are in solo tuning, though keep in mind that since these are 10-hole harmonicas, the solo tuning doesn't stretch as far range-wise.
      When it comes to keys, I've heard that they are supposed to come in every key, ar least eventuelly, but I've seen them in stock in A, G and C for each of the models.

    So is this a Chromatic?

      I would consider 'solo tuned' to be chromatic like the standard chromatic harmonica tuned but this is not solo tuned. This is Richter tuned so personally I would call it two diatonics in one - not a chromatic but I guess it's open to interpretation. The design is supposed to be two Richter tuned diatonics in one machine as I understand it. Does that make sense?

    Not well thought out. Why you keep talking about over blows? Stick to what the Trichilus can do.

    The mouthpiece is way bigger. It is chromatic size mouthpiece. But I want one. I'm just not good at 2nd position on chromatic. This is the answer to all my jazz playing dreams.

    • @harmonicamastery
      @harmonicamastery  Месяц назад +1

      I'd say the mouthpiece is smaller than a marine band and some chromatics. I don't think chrom players really do positions, just keys

    • @keyjam9
      @keyjam9 Месяц назад

      The mouthpiece on a marine band is definitely not bigger. You are backwords.
