    Please, give a little bit more than 5 minutes to Super Spy Hunter! While I agree with your opinion on the regular Spy Hunter, SSH is a completely different story. It's not an endless score attack game anymore, it is a very competent vehicle-based scrolling shooter, with themed stages and bosses. Sunsoft-quality soundtrack featuring their famous bass sound included.

    Xenophobe was one of the biggest disappoints as a kid growing up when I got it because the arcade game was so much fun. I agree with you 100% on Batman Returns and Silius. I will say Sunsoft killed it with some of their soundtracks, Batman, Silius, Blaster Master, Gremlins. Blaster Master is one of my top 5 NES games. Still never beat it though......

    While I agree with you that Journey to Silius is rather mundane as a run and gun, it has one of the best NES soundtracks - so it does have something going for it.

      This is the damn truth here. 100% correct.

    Journey to Silius was originally going to be The Terminator video game. But they lost the license to it and decided... well... you know what the hell with it... lets just change the story a bit and put it out there. It still turned out to be a really fun game despite the license being lost. I'm glad because listen... the game's soundtrack is just... WOW... i mean... WOW its just incredible... the soundtracks of that game along with both Batman games, Gremlins 2 and of COURSE Blaster Master are just masterpieces. The music of Journey to Silius is honestly the main reason i love and play it so much.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  Год назад

      100% agreed on the music - I think Sunsoft might have been the best studio for soundtracks on the NES. Outside of Nintendo and maybe Capcom, I think they're the strongest - even more than Konami!

    Blaster Master is a gem. Never heard of it before I got the Switch, but it’s gotta be one of the best games on the library. Lemmings for NES also looks surprisingly good!

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  2 года назад

      Lemmings shocked me at how well it played!
      And definitely check out Blaster Master Zero 1 - 3, they're fantastic!

    The music definitely is.

      I'll grant you the music is superlative. But from a gameplay perspective, it doesn't do anything for me.

    Blaster Master is the greatest game on the system. Only game I love more is Bloody Wolf for TG16. Gremlins 2 and Journey To Silius only other S level Sunsoft titles for me. Batman is close. If you have a top loading NES that plays PAL games, definitely try Ufouria. It’s in discussion for S tier.

      I'll check Ufouria out - thanks for watching!

    Loved your comments on the Spy Hunter games. I fully agree with your assessment of them. I also thought you did a great job of rating the character select screen of Freedom Force. I bet you could get further in Freedom Force 2002. The later game has absolutely nothing to do with the Sunsoft game you "reviewed."

    Journey To Silius I'd give a 6/10 personally. The one thing that I can't stand about it, is the awful jumping mechanic. That last stage as a kid was absurdly hard, because of how the jump was programmed and it still is. The story is alright considering they had to alter it due to losing the Terminator license, but what really shines is that soundtrack. Definitely in my top ten personal favorite NES era soundtracks. All in all, I pretty much agree with you. An ok game but nothing special.

    There's a video floating around RUclips of a guy that hacks Fester's quest to make it a lot more playable. It's simple hacks you can do with a game genie like letting the shots pass through walls.

    Oh no! Journey To Silius is a total S-tier game for me! I discovered it for a speedrunning competition, and then once I got into it more and learned about its history (it was originally a Terminator game), it only made me love it more. I actually did a video about it a couple of years ago when they first added it to the eShop because I loved it so much. So, yeah. Maybe I love Journey to Silius a little TOO much. 😅

    Wow, Journey to Silius is totally an S class game. I enjoy it about equally as much as batman. Gameplay is smooth, music is banging, boss battles are great, level design is great. Batman seemed to have better production value, but that's it.

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  2 года назад

      It's an absolute S for some, of that I have no doubt. It just didn't connect for me or okay nearly as well as Batman. But that's the beauty of these lists - it's all purely subjective. Thanks for watching, and Happy New Year!

    Great list! I was in complete agreement that Batman got an S-rank. Easily one of my favorite NES games of all-time, and really was superb. Blaster Master is a classic as well. Fester’s Quest I remember liking the music for, but wishing the gameplay was more refined. Gremlins was a surprisingly good game as well! It was interesting seeing that they handled the Xenophobe port from the Midway arcade game…and it really is a poor game lol.
    Journey of Silius is an interesting game in terms of its history. It was originally being developed as a Terminator movie game adaptation, but then the license was moved to Mindscape to handle a game on the first movie. Great ranking video as always man!

    Xenophobe is an F! A solid F. I rented it way back when i was a kid in the late 80s, and I hated it so much then........ Haven't seen or played it since. Some of the best NES music ever is from Sunsoft. I still have Fester's Quest, and I picked up Journey To Silius a few years ago for $45 raw. I unfortunately got rid of Batman and Blaster Master, and my sis has Gremlins 2.

    I remember playing Xenophobe in the arcade and it's MUCH better! Although i haven't played that vesion in a long time so maybe it's actually a garbage game that just looks better than the NES 😂

    • @SquarePegs
      @SquarePegs  2 года назад +1

      I think the worldwide opinion is that the arcade is great, and whatever this half chewed up piece of gizzard is doesn't live up to any goodwill from what that original game inspired.

  • @hfield07

    amazed xenophobe avoided the F. the game has no point at all. theres no real ending, outside of maxing your points and all you have to do is survive 5 minutes on each level. no tasks or anything.
