Quel bonheur de retrouver Green On Red, si rare sur kes ondes ... Leurs albums sont fantastiques... Le mix voix/guitarr/organ est fabuleusement réussi ... Ils auraient mérité plus de succès....
In 1985 or 6, Green on Red played a small, grungy bar named Millie’s on Dixon Street in Fayetteville, AR. I tended a bar just up the road. That night after work I walked down to catch the end of the show and a drink, as typical. But I experienced something that night I’d never experienced before or since. I walked in and all the chairs on the floor and at the bar were oddly empty. But around the corner at the stage a crowd was gathered, rocking and jumping and singing. There were punkers and cowpokes, hippies and frat bros and girls moving in sync with the sound. Everyone was transfixed to what was coming off the stage. It was joyous and eerie bc the band had captured this audience in a cult-like bond and I was on the outside looking in. One last tune and the show was over. I had definitely missed something potent that night.
I bought a green on Red CD about a gazillion years ago in a second hand shop in Glasgow just because I liked some of the songs titles like Pills and Booze and Charlie the Methadone Man and was really happy I took the chance on it
01 Black River 02 Easy Way Out 03 Honest Man 04 Time Ain't Nothing 05 Send Me A Postcard 06 That's What Dreams 08 Down To The Bone 09 The Drifter 10 See Of Cortez 11 After 6 12 No Free Lunch 13 Time Slips Away 14 This I Know 15 Fading Away 16 Hair Of The Dog 17 Gravity Talks 18 Old Chief 19 Everybody Loves To Play The Fool 20 We Shall Overcome 21 Down By The River 22 Symphathy For The Devil
Ironic they got sacked, then. There were definitely time keeping issues. The band continued as Chuck and Dan with a variety of hired hands until a brief reunion in 2006.
have all the Green on Red LPs going way back. LSD Life happened and i lost track. Stumbled here today clueless. Fucking incredible shit yall. confused of where i am mixed my Prophet
I always meant to check this band out, because I liked the name. Never did catch up with them, but imagine my surprise to discover that Chuck Prophet played with them- I used to carry his amp into the clubs so that they wouldn't check my I.D. -and he was younger than me! 😸
Not to mention a splendid keyboard (harp) player and two guitarists. But the quality of those songs brings the whole thing out above. Above what? Just about everything contemporary anyway.
Hey, I went there! They also had R.E.M. there that month but I only had money for one ticket, so I decided on this one. Still a little undecided about my choice...)

you're absolutely right. a) they're totally underrated and b) there's a (nearly unvisible) cut: before they start with "Down by the River" they have to plug in their guitars again for the (first) encore. "Everybody loves to play the Fool" and "We shall overcome" were the last two songs of the 'regular' show; they can be heard on the (bootleg-) double LP "OLd Dreams Die Young" but not here! I changed it; thanks! :)
@@mitchjam I actually was referring to the 'mooning' incident. ;-) Appreciate you putting this great concert up here. I only, but luckily got to see them live in 2006, even though the reason they reunited was a sad one. Getting some money for the drummers family, because he passed away.
@@mitchjam top info & thanks but when they toured UK they were introduced as from Tuscon. I definetly saw them twice, I think 3 times. Memory of them days is a little sketchy. I put on another GOR thing that I'm pretty sure I saw Steve Earle as their support but I'm starting to doubt everything now. It was a scary long time ago when I was rarely sober
@@rocket5756 that checks out. now i am wondering if if was that gig or a subsequent one that they had the fight on stage. It was definately Edinburgh. They did Jumpin Jack Flash as an encore. Dan got a little over excited and wrecked the drum kit. drummer not happy, fists flew, great gig.
@@rocket5756 I can't remember if i replied already but thanks for that. that was indeed the gig. from my sketchy memory i think Steve Earle set was acoustic. I saw them twice (i think) in Edinburgh and once in Aberdeen> The Aberdeen gig was 1st, GFL tour I assume. There was hardly anyone there & they brought out two cases of beer after the show and we all got very very drunk. That must have been like 1984/5 maybe? A long time ago that is for sure

Still love playing their albums 30+ years on.
Yep, me too.
I just discovered this band yesterday on my local independant radio station! F'n love em!! The Mighty Gun was the song that grabbed my attention!
I still have the green pressing of gas food lodging
@@keithmicomonaco4693 they were very early Americana before it was a thing

Chuck is still on tour somewhere and playing that same guitar.
the most played squier guitar in history...It got stolen some years back, but fortunately Chuck got it back quickly
@@FBG61 that was epic. Chuck's friend Kara gumshoed it back from the streets of San Francisco somehow.
Fnatastic show! At their best! Chuck's guitar on fire!
I love Green on Red. Great band.
shout out to drummer's t-shirt, glenn's cafe- since 1939!
Out of the band came the fantastic Chuck Prophet and his Mission express, fantastic band
Ooooh this is a worthy recommendation to me ! thanks

While the guitarrist was prominent with his play (soli) I'll always be glad to have been in this concert of Green On Red. :)

i saw them same era at club 22 athens GR
Seriously the best band that never was. My cousin was their marketing guy for a while - he quit the music business.
Nice!!! Thanks for sharing!!
30 years later and watts is still the same Dan. Amazing show from a great American band
