      Haha 😂 I mean, in fairness, I am going to sell my orange one, just have to get it in perfect condition first.. Yeah, when this car was in production, Norway had a horsepower tax, and especially the C30 which was often bought as a "second car", people just went for the low power version, and the fact that the D4 was only really in production for two years didn't help. But the 5 cylinder is amazing, and also one of the most reliable diesels out there. Only sad thing is that I am missing out on the magnificent Orange flame metallic 🥲. But at least the cosmic white is sort of interesting as it is a pearlescent white, instead of a flat white or silver.

      @@KiTrisExtremeRc Yeah, Nardo gray is actually a really good comparison now you mention it. I'll keep it like this a while I think, just I need to get the gloss black wrap on the roof replaced, because this one is super worn and waterspotted. If I wrap it I think I'll go for Rebel blue/Polestar blue, since that's like the ultimate color for the C30s, and reminiscent of the C30 polestar concept prototype. Yeah, now they're enforcing a new tax for car weight, which is ironic when they keep telling us to buy EVs which most are SUVs, but also I prefer lightweight cars so I'm not that bothered personally. I'm just waiting for a sub 1500kg two seater rear drive EV, and then I can start looking in that direction. I just can't be bothered with these behemoths of cars that everyone are buying nowadays, EV or not. It's sort of a running joke or theme with my friends that I despise and hate SUVs with everything in my being 🤣

      Looking forward to see what you do with the car, no matter which color, I'm sure it will look amazing :)

      @VinnesAuto  Год назад

      Yeah, handling is my nr.1 priority most the time, and that means less weight. I'm planning on taking a trip to Nürburgring during the summer holiday. Going to see how the C30 really handles when you're not limited by speed limits. I was also thinking of trying to contact Misha Charoudin who you've probably seen, to see if he would want to drive the C30 for a lap since he hasn't had a C30 on the channel and he apparently likes volvos, but I've never seen him drive a diesel, so I was thinking he might only do petrols or something. Anyways, that would be really fun to see what an experienced driver can do with it.

    Hi. Very nice C30! I also bought second C30 (2012., D3 R-design, silver.. previous was 2008. R-design, white 2.0D).. I've made almost the same mods on both.. like new wheels, coilovers, painted roof in black, LEDs etc. Now car looks really great, but I feel a need to remap and do something about the sound. I don't want to remove the mufler and EGR.. do you think that with just different muffler, it's possible to get powerful sound? Also, for remap I would go to stage 1 I guess.. should be around 70-100nm+.. just some little problems with transmission (auto) are worrying me. GL with the car!

    • @VinnesAuto
      @VinnesAuto  Год назад

      Hi, I am in the same situation wanting som sound and remap, so I've done some research. There are no specific exhaust systems for the D3 or D4 (same engine as you probably know). I also don't want to remove dpf or any other things that will give legal troubles. From what I've found, a T5 exhaust system will fit as long as you get an adapter for the correct pipe size. There are two videos by @richardfox2996 I've found with just DPF back exhaust system, and it sounds really nice I think. For remap, I will probably go with a BSR_Performance remap which gives a conservative 198 hp/435 nm for a decent improvement but without pushing the engine to it's limit for reliability's sake. I've got the M66 Manual, so I don't really know much about the Auto, but from what I've heard, they are decent. BSR provides the remap also for the auto version of the D3, and they always specify if their remaps will be to much for auto boxes.

      @@AlphaScorpii1986 I think PowerFlow is a UK company which does custom exhaust systems. If you visit algperformance.co.uk and check their T5 exhaust systems, it says in the description that they also fit the D3 and D4 with Reducer adapters. So that's my source. So in theory just any T5 facelift cat-back system. Älg has alot of goodies for the C30s. I just ordered some driveshaft spacers to reduce their load from the lowering springs, and a new Rear antiroll-bar to tighten up the rear end. The UK has probably the largest C30 community, so I get alot of ideas and parts from over there.

      @@AlphaScorpii1986 You make a good point, Norway is technically not a part of the EU but in practice we are basically a member. I do also get a few things from Sweden which doesn't require any additional tax. I only have lowering springs for the time being, but I really want a set of Bilstein B12 adjustable coilovers. I though about rear camber arms, but the P1 platform actually has a surprising amount of camber stock, so if anything I would get adjustable camber plates for the front, but they're not exactly cheap. Haha, Norwegian roads are generally not very good surprisingly, some highways here and there but they're no fun. All the B-Roads are generally old and narrow with a 80 limit, and then most of the few new B-Roads have a 60 limit :/ Which makes no sense I know. People fail to realise that inattentiveness and lack of focus is much more dangerous than going 20 over the speed limit on a nice summer day, but people's focus isn't really something they can control, so speed it is I guess. Logically I think a lot of crashes that allegedly are because of "speeding" are actually crashes from lack of focus, but they were coincidentally going over the speed limit at the time of crashing, and so it is automatically labelled as speed being the cause of the crash because it fits their agenda. Though I do also get that if you crash at a higher speed, there are larger consequences.

      It could obviously be different from country to country, but here I don't think they know if a C30 is an R-design or not. They don't view the car listing, they only use the registration information. They don't know that it's a D4, they know it's a 2.0 litre diesel with 177hp. They don't think about it being 5 cylinders instead of 4. Also just Volvo as a brand for anyone who doesn't have an interest in the C30 specifically will just see a volvo with good safety, and mostly reliable and responsible owners.

      @VinnesAuto  Год назад

      Sounds like a late 2007 model, which had a sport trim but R-design didn't become a thing till 2008. It might still be factory lowered and have some other upgrades, but it's not as easy to know. I am actually planning a buyers guide for the C30, but I can give you some essentials. Ask if the DPF has ever been changed, since they're typically recommended to change every 100k km, if not that's a good way to knock some money off. Ensure that the cambelt has been changed, regular maintenance oil and filters. If it has a diesel preheater, they almost never function properly, so there's another way to get some money off. Both my C30s the preheater worked two times before they stopped working. Ideally they should be run at least once a month even in summer to maintain the system, but almost no one knows this. It is smart to find out how it is for rust on the underside if possible (depends on your location) but ideally you want one that has at some point been undercoated( I have done both mine ). Chassis rust you should look around the door-handles and on the inner corner of the doors and front fenders primarily. If it's an auto you should ask if they have done regular flushing of the gearbox, since that's not actually in the maintenance plan, but is preferable for a long and healthy life of the gearbox. Also check what tires they have on the car, because the owners choice in tire quality often tells you something about how much the previous owner cared about the car.

      It's both a blessing and a curse. From what information I have been able to gather, there's not a single facelifted C30 T5 that was sold new in Norway. And even with the diesels, we had thousands of c30s with the 1.6 diesel, which is just some basic unreliable Peugeot engine under the volvo engine cover. The D3/D4 were the only volvo engines they sold, and there are 18 D3s sold new in Norway, and only 2! D4s where mine is one of them. To say it lightly, I was on top of that listing as soon as it was up for sale, I called the owner within hours of the car going up for sale. I really wanted a more interesting color, but it had the M66 gearbox, R-design and the premium sound system, so it was a no-brainer. Only thing I would have liked is a sunroof, and the color of course.

      The D(followed by a number) is a later style designation for Volvo's diesel engine. They were used on the facelift models of the C30 (and v50/S40). Your engine is just known as the 2.0D which is a 2L 16v 4cyl engine. It's actually not a Volvo engine, it's really a Ford 2.0L TDCi engine. My engine is also technically a 2.0D, but it's a 2.0L 20v 5cyl engine with the designation "D3" or "D4" designed and built by Volvo.

      P1 is a chassis designation. All C30s are P1s. The Volvo v50/s40 are built on the same P1 chassis. So are the ford focus' of the era, and the Mazda 3. They basically all share most the underpinnings with different shells on top. Volvo's earlier petrol engines were designated with (engine volume)i, for example 2.0i. And with T instead of the i of it was a turbo model, so f.ex. 2.0T.

    I live in Poland and love to buy a C30 but only really reliable 5 cylinder engine in those car's is Petrol 2.4... whith is hard to get in C30 so most probably will stop at V50 with that 2.4 which is easily availible and much cheaper than C30 with the same engine ... I really don't wanna buy diesel , i don't like how they sound and put down power , also repairs on diesels are crazy expensive when compared to this cars value - for example full set of injectors is close to half of the car's value ... also living with DPF on close trips can be problematic and expensive ...
    So V50 2.4 petrol or C30 1.6/2.0D for basicaly same price and for me good engine is more value than just C30 exterior looks .[ V50 is same P1 platform so identical interior and same driving characteristics ]

      I knew the 2.5T has had issues there because of thin cylinder walls, but haven't really heard of the same with these engines? Do you know if it's the same with the 2.4 5cyl diesel engines? Because that is basically the same as this one only this is a 2 litre 5cyl. The 2.4 petrol is really nice, my granddad has a C70 with that engine 👌. For me, the reason for buying C30s are mostly down to their quirky features and unusual design elements which I love, but I get that from a function and logic standpoint, the v50 is a better buy. (And you can get them with T5 AWD). And yes, I get the diesel sound and feel, but considering it is a diesel, it really doesn't sound bad. I want to install a new rear muffler at least to unlock that 5 cylinder sound at the exhaust end. The power curve is very flat, but from what i have seen on dyno graphs, a stage 1 remap will make it at least somewhat more rev happy. My 1.6D with a remap is actually astonishingly petrol like in the power band where the power is almost proportional with the RPMs, which made it very fun to drive, but it is also nice to have plenty of torque already at 1200rpm on the D4, not to mention the fuel consumption of 5.4 l/100km. I knew about fragile blocks on the s60/v70 R cars, but haven't really heard about it with the C30 T5 in stock form, so it wouldn't be my biggest worry.

      2.4 D5 are almost free of cracking bloks/cylinder liners , it CAN happen but very very rarely and rather in newer biturbo ones . I wouldn't worry about 2.4 D5 - they are rather bulletproof unless really neglected . 2.0 are much more fragille and despite simmilar design [ same VEA5 engine series ] they're construction is't really the same ;[
      T5 in P1 cars [ C30/S40/V50/C70/Focus ST ] cracks just as well as on S60/V70R unfortunatelly ... especially in C30/Focus ST as more people treats them as fun car and push the powerband and/or remap the ecu . For example in Poland out of less than 20 V50 T5 currently listed on OLX.pl 5 have broken engine .... So for me it's more common than you think and volvo did changed nothing in P1 cars 2.5T5 .
      I could get by with diesel feel but for me doing about 12 000km per year savings on fuel won't be even close to covering typical diesel maintance [ EGR , DPF , Injectors and clutch/dual mass flywell whitch diesels use up much quicker ] .
