On 23 August 2011 the Local Authority announced it was giving developers one last chance to rebuild the old complex which has now been shut for 11 years.
Numerous plans to revamp the site have come to nothing. Now developers have been given 6 months to come up with a smaller project, or the bulldozers will be sent in. Demolition of the site is not thought to be popular.
The site used to be extremely popular, and many are disappointed that past opportunities to develop the site have been let slip, as three developers had been keen to develop the site, and three times it has fallen through. Some people now think it is the Councils fault for mismanaging the schemes.
The pool has been in Weston since the 1930's, and in its hay-day was very popular. It even attracted stars like Diana Dors.
In 2000 the Tropicana closed, and developer Mace Estates was selected to work on a new project for the site. But although the Council promised that the Tropicana would be open in 2004, the Mace plans were rejected and the company bowed out.
Other plans included a 26 storey tower for apartments, but that too was rejected. In 2005 Henry Boot was chosen as the developer, but the recession meant they pulled out.
Then early in 2011 developer Richard Nightingale pulled out over a dispute with the Council over his plans.
However, the vast majority of holiday makers and residents still want a pool. Some are disappointed that investment was given to rebuild the pier after the fire, but the Tropicana has been allowed to fail, and since it is such a historic building.
But businessman Richard Nightingale says he might still be able to build a pool in the Tropicana, but talks are at a very difficult stage.
There is now uncertainty over the site as to whether it's death warrant will be signed, and as to whether the site will end up being completely demolished.
