Just bought mine yesterday same Academy brand as well so it's nice to see how well you did yours and the tips are much appreciated. This should break up some boredom and I get to hang it next to my P-51 in the garage i built about 15 yrs ago.
Love your honesty about the faux pas. As long as you learn from it, you'll get better. I've been building kits for 50+ years. In my opinion, it looks fantastic. keep it up
I think your model looks fantastic. Just a note from an old modeler who has been building for over 50 years, each kit is a learning experience. Keep it up. As far as the paint in the corners being gritty, add some reducer to your airbrush that will help. The thing on the side of the fwd fuselage is a pave penny designator . They don't carry them anymore , hence the four bumps resembling the left over bolts. Which is a nice detail actually. Great job.
Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try next time. It's great to hear from other modelers and learn from their wisdom and experience. Thanks for watching!
I was just about to buy the kit. After watching your movie I changed my mind. With so many issues I will wait for a different brand kit. Sooner or later there will be a good one. I have heared something about a new hobby boss release. Nice build. Cheers
I've built this kit. It really isn't that bad. Most of the problems he mentioned weren't there for me. The only real problem I had was a gap where the fornt part of the fuselage meets with the back part. It was very easy to clean up with some masking tape to ensure I didn't mess up the rivets
Great call my friend, I on the other hand bought it. I'm on the first two sections (about a dozen parts) and I want to throw it in the bin! Badly fitting parts, poor instruction, I hate it - I do this stuff because I find it one of the most relaxing of hobbies but with this kit my stress levels have gone through the roof. I was so looking forward to building this and now couldn't give a fig what it looks like when it's finished - assuming I get that far of course!
Be more positive with your self. Your model building and finishing will get better with experience and time. This kit should pose no problems. It’s incredibly engineered and has beautiful slide mouldings incorporated. Fabulous looking model, great job👍
I applaud your ability to be painfully honest when mistakes happen, we ALL make mistakes as we develop our skills, this says a lot about what kind of many you are and will be. If you’ll accept my advise, I just want to say that never let a person get to you when they say aggressive things, they’ll be dealing with things a lot worse than what you could do to them. Always hang around people that aren’t whiners or confused about their sexuality, AKA; brainwashed. If you think your family members don’t care about you, it’s not that simple, they think of you daily and hope you’re happy and have hope for your future. You’re a lot more intelligent than the average person so avoid idiots and find friends that start conversations with words like; “I have an idea”, this will build your self confidence is doing a project you love. Keep doing great things!
1:05 on certain parts you decided to go out of sequence from the instructions, but for A31 and A32 you decied to follow the instructions, if you've gone out sequence you'd seen the slots for them staring at you on the back of cockpit tub @1:30. You'd have assembled the whole seat without those pieces, put it in the tub so you could align A31 and A32. 17:15 A-10C stopped using the pave penny targeting pods, but some still had them attached depending on timeframe. The four bolts on the side of the fuselage are not locating pins, they're supposed to be there when the pod isn't attached. Same for the four bolt holes on the side of the pods plate are not locating pin holes either. The inside of part A1 had two flashed holes that you drill out and line up with the two true locating pins in the pod that you sanded down @17:35
Thanks for the feedback! This is why I love sharing my builds on RUclips! Its the best way to share knowledge and experience. I definitely want to build another one in the future and I'll keep this in mind. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing. I find your explanation of process great. Often RUclips modellers don’t explain or show the issues of a kit. Appreciate your honest build.
@ 22:01 I am new to air brushing and I learned this too, I call it turbulence. I think a good mitigation is lowering the PSI super low and sanding if it builds up.
Thanks for your video, your model looks fine and you’ve provided some useful advice for when/if I get around to building my Academy A-10C. Like you I was excited after seeing the early unboxing videos and straight away placed an order for this kit, it’s good to see how well it actually goes together. Despite the issues you’ve shown us it’s clearly possible to turn out a good looking model.
Thank you for the honest review. I have been eyeing this kit for awhile now and all of the reviews that I watched before yours did not really give me a good/bad review of the kit like you have done. By the way, great job.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. May I suggest something for your next video. Build on a lighter colored surface. It would come across better on video.
Nice job dude, it came out pretty cool! Just as a bit of A-10 trivia: that pylon and sensor on the nose is the Pave Penny target spotter thingy. the four bumps on the fuselage that dont reach the holes in the pylon are what it looks like now that the Pave Penny is no longer in use. It has been replaced by the Sniper targeting pod under the wing. those bumps are the covers to the mounting holes that secured the pylon to the fuselage. the holes in the pylon as you have them now would be bolt heads in real life. Anyways it still looks awesome, i look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Just got this kit - one note for the pave penny pod. They call it out as ver 1 in the instructions as an option. There’s two holes to drill that the bumps on the back of the pod line up with.
That nose pylon attaches to the fuselage via two holes drilled out in the early steps of the instructions. With the pilot, I had to file down the instrument panel to fit him in. I'm busy painting my A-10 now and have left off basically all the pylons, tail and engines to paint separately - with so many nooks and crannies in this aircraft, it's easy to get paint pooling.
You shouldn't talk negative about what you are doing. No one would be able to tell. You paint work was good. It's better then what a lot of people could do.
Nice job on that kit.I was listening to what you had to say on some of the fit issues and those are some easy fixes.Just by sanding the edges on most of the parts you can and will find out that you will end up having to use less putty. Also you will not have to sand as much.If you have a magnifier and look at most of the join areas before gluing, you will see a light beveling of the edges. It is not much but light and I mean very light sanding helps a whole lot to the point in that you will have less seems to fill or sand.
Been thinking about picking this up. Despite the minor issues on both sides, your built came out fantastic!. Hey, broham. Its our hobby. Once its on display, all those imperfections only we know about dissapear. Every model, its a lesson learned (you said it yourself👍) Only tip i could add to the mix. Try some locktite fun-tak putty to hold pieces in place while dry fitting sections (and a large tupperware to store work between sessions). Overall, great job my man! Keep the hobby going strong!👍🤘
What an honest review and a great build. I have just got back into aircraft builds and your video sure has helped as i have just purchased this kit. Rod Down-under.
The "stupid antenna thingy" is the Pave Penny laser targeting thingy for later guided munitions. And yes, it does seem remiss of Academy to foul up such a simple attachment. The slide moulding for the rear fuselage is a pretty nifty piece of tooling, so you think it simplified the overall build?
Thanks bro. Good video. I'm going to build this aircraft soon, and been wondering if it is worth to add a resin seat. Your video convinced me to do so. Cheers, and happy modeling!
thats nice ,advice about the paint when it get textured and generally to give a nice surface finish to your models ,find some fine metal wool 0000 ,i personally doing the complete model with that and makes super fine surface plus models looks more real because it makes the matt finish a bit shiny just enough like the real !
Great job! Don't worry about the paint. Take it from an A-10 guy...there is plenty of dust, dirt, hyd fluid, oil, and junk all over the plane. Again, nice work!👍👍

Awesome work. Those stinking cockpit decals can be a pain. I do everything I can to paint the cockpit instead of decals. Did they update the cockpit on this model? Everyone I have looked at has been the A-10A cockpit, not the A-10C. Incredibly frustrating.
So the four bumps that were located marks for the antenna. By the way that's not an antenna. Those four bumps are just pretty much rivets that were put there after they removed that mechanism for the c model.
I just wish we could get an updated one that doesn't have the Pope AFB face paintings. I was an A-10 crew chief and it's been difficult to find one that matches the majority of the fleet.
Beautiful job! Mistakes happen but knowing how to fix them like you did is paramount! Btw I didn't see any dust at all. Maybe because I'm an old modeler with bad eyesight?😂
I really enjoyed this (and subbed!) buddy. I think it turned out great, I'd be thrilled if mine turns out looking that good. You're the only one who will see a lot or most of the little imperfections. Keep it up! I'll get to mine at some point and this was a nice tutorial. Cheers
