Ben is a good young man. He flagged the police down within a minute of the encounter. That's honesty and nobilty. Taking responsibility rather than trying to conceal his part in it. Difficult to choose to do the correct thing when the stakes are that high.
And the victim's wife is extraordinary. So generous to forgive Ben in that way. Empathy and compassion. Thank God there was footage.

don't know why dave's dad said, "i've always taught him to stand up for yourself." is he trying to excuse dave's behavior? bc it didn't. dave put himself into a fight that had nothing to do with him.
dave's actions (as well as those other bullies) bothers me bc not only did they pick a fight over such a small thing, but they ganged up on ben, and now changed his life forever just so they can feel tough for a few minutes. a man died bc he wanted to fight someone over something that didn't involve him, when he could've just said to his friend, "ok, ok, let's go mate, it's not worth fighting over, let's just go." instead he said to ben, "it's too late, you're going to get it." makes me wonder how often they pick ridiculous fights.

i know ben feels so much guilt, but he really shouldn't; he did everything he could to stop it. this is one story where i feel he truly was a victim.
    1. when he had the tall guy on the ground, he was trying to restrain him; many guys would use that opportunity to throw in punches, but he didn't.
    2. even when the other guy came up to him in a boxing stance, threatening him, his body language was non-aggressive and showed he was trying to deescalate
    3. after the punch, he backed up in a non-threatening manner, with his hands up; other guys would be proud of themselves, saying, "yup, i knocked him out in one punch!"
THOSE bullies brought on their friend's death, not ben; ben was just the unfortunate person they chose to corner. he had no choice whatsoever, it was like a pack of wild hyenas circling a lion. he really had no other option. i feel so bad for him; he truly doesn't deserve the guilt. he tried so hard to deescalate, then he even went to a cop to turn himself in right away. seems like a good guy that was given no other option than to fight. i really hope the guilt doesn't cause his life to go downhill in any way.

Glad Dave's loved ones could see that he was the one who provoked Ben and good thing he turned himself in straight away. Good thing for CCTVs too, they clear a lot of things up. 2nd old guy was a total douche though, assuming Brian didn't have a disability not even thinking he could've been with somebody else who did, and also refuting the eye witness saying she was wrong like geez mate, give up!

I suffer from a chronic illness and while I may look fine on the outside...I live in chronic pain and fatigue. Those who are not in the disabled shoes need to keep their damned judgements and comments to themselves. Especially when they don't know the truth whether it's the vehicle's owner or passenger. Mind your own damned business!😡

You can voice feeling guilty as the day is long. Knowing human nature - there's a sense of pride he's not going to be able to cover over

Living with guilt? If one does not experience shame, which is a noble virtue, then nothing will learned by an offender. There are too many in this world, let alone our society, who don't have a sense of shame, let alone guilt, which is just offending a higher authority. Shame comes from a failure of performance. A spontaneous feeling of our spiritual nature, emanating from our Psyche (located in the center of our body). Guilt is of the mind (the head). The Psyche is round, the mind is square. Every heard of a blockhead?

Especially a stubborn blockhead. They identify with their ego (false self).

Ben didn't need to back-up a friend and George didn't need to intervene. Fighting is a mug's game and walking or minding your own business will keep you alive. The only time fighting is acceptable is in paid professional or sanctioned amateur competition. Walk away and live another day. Your ego will mend from nasty words said to you.

Wow. That kid hasn’t accepted responsibility at all. I do believe it will get him as he ages.
As it should. It’s irresponsible behaviour that caused a death. It may not have been premeditated. However he killed someone. His violent behaviour, killed someone. He hasn’t made the connection yet. This will hit him when he has a family.
He deserves forgiveness. He needs to accept responsibility first. ❤❤

He stood up for himself but you can clearly see on the video that he didnt want to fight, he had the hands on his sides and just faced up to the dude who died.

The first 2 men deserve to rot in prison. The fact the 1st one only got 45 months is appalling.
The last story was so heart breaking.

Second story: A pathetic story of entitlement. Looks like a Gen Xer took the selfishness lessons from his Boomer parents a little to seriously.

Nicki is a very strong woman! She recognised the situation for what it was for. I feel for Ben. You could see he didn’t want to do it.
As for the 2nd guy - he is a pig. He made terrible assumptions and got out of his car to chase and punch someone. He saw him to go down and turned, walked away and went home. Then had the audacity to lie about it.
The first guy - I don’t think he’s accepted responsibility for his actions. I think he’s sorry it happened but I don’t think he’s accepted his part.
