oh. my. god. thank you! I've watched so many tutorials but they were all confusing or extremely time consuming, my head immediately got your explanation! 😂
This was so incredibly helpful! I’ve been wanting to learn how to make my own chainmail for ren fairs for years and I’m so excited to be able to do that now!
So middle faces us, edges face away. Right side you go top to bottom and left side bottom to top.... That makes more sense than the last video I watched. Thank you. I was giving myself a headache trying this before.
to save money with some tools i had laying around i used 16awg galvenized fence wire and a drill to make my own rings before attempting this. it works but the tool i used to cut makes the ends taper inside the rings. also took probably 3-4x as long fighting any inconsistencies in size or shape.
If possible could you show how ring sizing works and compare to coins or something? I’m having a really hard time finding the ring size and thickness I want ❤
Love this tutorial! Will be very helpful once I start creating. What cut of rings do you use? Machine or saw? I'm wanting to make something that would go over more delicate fabric so worried about snags. Appreciate any feedback!
@@mushroom.mustang I went with machine cut in aluminum to try. So far no snags really, but haven't put it over fabric yet. If I have issues I'll probably go saw next time.
Ive tried a few tutorials and this is the first one i actually got!! also this might be silly but how do you keep it so flat? mine is all bumped and warped
ive aways wanted to try making some chainmail for like a Gjermundbu helmet but a full shroud that goes over the shoulders too, your video makes its simple to understand, do you think it would be easier to do small sections at a time to make say 200 "4-in-1" at a time so i have a load all done
This is perfect timing, I have been wanting to try this out as a hobby! It looks like the size you are using here is sold out in aluminum on their website. Do you have another material and/or ring size recommendation that would be good for beginners? Thanks!
I typically work with 16g 5/16 rings, they're a little smaller than the ones im using in this video or you can do 18g 3/8 which is the same size as rings in this vid just a thinner wire :)
How can you make the rings stay in place? The pattern on the sample I made looks good when it's laying on top of the table but when I pick it up the rings on the top move down and it loses the pattern a little bit, but I saw examples on pinterest where their samples/work aren't laying on top of a table and it holds the pattern. So how do they do it?
I was under the understanding that I was supposed to use pliers with smooth Jaws but noticed that yours aren't. Do you have any issues with marring the metal rings?
I don't have a ton of issues with this especially when working with rings that are already silver! if they get a few scratches on them you would never know but if you're concerned about it when working with precious metals or aluminum rings with a color coating on them, you can always put a small bit of masking tape on the end of your pliers to prevent scratching :)
I think as long as they’re closed, they’re closed! Mine click just because that’s how I close mine but if you feel like it’s not happening when you close rings that’s okay!
Good job. Did you know that Iranians invented the Chainmail that you and others are calling European.. . Also, Iranians originate from Europe (along Danube). I am not sure if they invented it when they were still living in Europe or later. Thanks for sharing, you are very talented.
I’m a fashion design student and want to add chainmail to my senior collection, you’ve been so helpful in knowing where to start
Omg that sounds amazing!!! Let me know if you have any other questions!
You are the fashion designer we all want making fashion then.
Queue "what the fashion industry thinks we want." VS "What we actually want"
I'd love to see how you layout / envision making your patterns. Particularly when you're doing something like your shirts with sleeves and such!
Katie!! I just uploaded a shirt tutorial!
@@laurendoescosplay You are SUCH A GOD SEND.
This is the first time making chain mail has seemed like something I could do 😅 thank you for making it simple!
you can absolutely do it!
For real I'm so tempted to go buy 20,000 rings now 😂
oh. my. god. thank you! I've watched so many tutorials but they were all confusing or extremely time consuming, my head immediately got your explanation! 😂
This video was super helpful, thank you so much! I tried before and gave up, but I'm gonna try again!
I too “snip snip snip” every time I pick up pliers 😂
This is so much easier to grasp for me than the other videos i saw where they were doing one at a time in a link 😅
I just got my first box of rings to try this out! I'm so excited. This has helped a lot

this is making me want to get into making my own chainmail pieces.... also you have such a nice instructional voice!
ahh! thank you so much!
I am saving this! I’m want to try making a chainmail shirt for a cosplay and this is sooo helpful! Thank you so much! 😍

Oh hey never knew there was a site that actually sold rings. Very nice.
Some people make their own rings but I definitely find it more convenient to purchase them!
WHAT!!! you made this look so easy i love you omg you inspire me so much
yes, finally i can start to make my monster hunter cosplay, thank you so much ❤🔥
This is soooo incredibly helpful thank you so much ❤

This is so helpful, thank you so much! Your pieces are beautifulll!! 🙌
Looks easy to me. Getting prepared is the tedious part.
excellent viddd

i saw that they have a sizing guide on the ring lords website. they have instructions on how to print out the guide to show the correct/irl size

did yew already decide which to choose? i was wondering this myself. from what i’ve read, it seems saw cut is better to prevent snagging

Does it have to “click” closed every time? I’ve just started and not all of them click but they seem butted close 😅 I’ve don’t want them to snag/pull

can you do a 6 in 1 tutorial please, everyone else on youtube is so hard to learn from :(
Are ringlord still active? I visited the site and everything was out of stock and two of the images were not loading.
they are! everything was out of stock??? maybe they were experiencing a site glitch, I just looked and it all looks up and normal to me!
With “beginner” in title…does this indicate that 4 in 1’s are a good play for a newbie to start?
Very helpful video but I can confirm that this is extremely difficult if you’re starting from scratch
