Haha, love it!
Ugh, yes. Same here!
🤣
My wife is a recovering ostrich and I'm an engineer helping us navigate the money seas
Greg Shovlin same!
Encourage her to watch a few more of our episodes so she's less of an ostrich!
Greg Shovlin well said Greg. I am with you. Soooo how much do spend ;)
Allegedly
Greg Shovlin
That is exactly my situation. Good luck. 22 years married and I still don't see the light at the end of the tunnel
Me at first: None of these really fit
gets to ostrich
Me: Well, I feel called out. But I'm improving.
Hoarder here.... with an Ostrich GF.... It is freaking hard to plan a future financially
Good luck from a hoarder friend
Yeah. And it is very hard to talk to them about money
If your GF is reasonable the best suggestion is to budget for both of you honestly. Figure out how you want to live your life. You'll both see where your money is going so that should allow both of you to ease up on how you feel about money. Balance is needed. You can't take money to the grave and at the same time being irresponsible will cause issues in life.
break up..advice from hoarder
Fellow hoarder and married to an Ostrich for 10 years. If you can encourage her to stick with you though all the budget meetings and show them the benefit of being involved they will appreciate your unique trait. :)
You guys are my financial parents
It would be super fun if you all developed a quiz we could take and send to our friends (especially those friends that need help in the finance department).
Okay, but what's _Philip's_ Disney princess, Hogwarts house, etc.? 😉
Pocahontas, Ravenclaw, INFJ, Enneagram 1 :)
@@TwoCentsPBS Wow, neat! 💚
@@TwoCentsPBS 🤭... he is savage....Barely even human! -Pocahontas reference
@@TwoCentsPBS I'm Ravenclaw and INFJ, too! High fiiiive
Huh...I'm a Hufflepuff INFJ.
Feeling like a hoarder and engineer, sometimes it really is tough for me to spend money on anything not essential 🤷🏽♂️
Both a hoarder and engineer here. Always run the numbers before buying anything and doing cost benefit analysis even for very smalls expense like a bag of snacks.
I fell the exactly the same way.
My problem being a hoarder is that my friends always get upset when I go out with them. While they're enjoying the restaurant, I'm enjoying my glass of water while putting the money I would have spent on dinner into my savings account. They want to go to an amusement park? How about we go somewhere cheaper instead? Like a regular park! Swings are both fun AND free!
I feel you! I'm a hoarder too! I always think about the cost-benefit analysis of doing one thing versus another. It can get on my nerves when I think TOO much about how much money to spend to do what I want like choosing a place to stay on vacation. Should I spend just $20 a night, $42 on an Airbnb or $132 a night at a high end hotel I chose the $42 a night airbnb.
Me too, I think it's an absolute no-go to get into debt because of spending money on luxury things. My bank allows to make so-called "spaces", where I can put money aside. I have a space for "some luxury" where I pay every month a set amount of my income in, so I can feel okay spending on eating out or an amusement park because I set aside money just for that reason.
It's weird because I identified with hoarder and social spenders. I have a good amount saved up so when I /do/ go out, I don't feel guilty spending that amount of money. I have everything compartmentalized and pay my bills in the beginning of the month so I can enjoy the rest of it worry free.
For me, it's about knowing when to spend, I guess. I usually don't go out during the beginning of the month since my bills come first. If there ever is an event I really want to attend during those days, I plan ahead so that I know where all my money is going and I don't overspead. If I'm going out, I buy something moderately priced. Nothing that seems overpriced but also not to low where I feel like I'm depraving myself. The whole reason I'm saving money is to enjoy it once in a while. I have a good amount saved for emergencies, so I'm not worried about that part, either.
I used to be an ostrich, so I feel like I've come a long way since.
Same here, my friends constantly call me cheap, but I have difficulty going out when I know I have food ready at home, or taking shots at a bar when I know I could buy a beer for so much less outside the bar.
I *can't* not think about how to spend the least possible, because why would I buy that thing at $20 when I can have that one at $8? I can be convinced to go eat out, but I cringe on the inside when I know how much it'll cost me. Even when I get some food out I try to take the cheapest thing possible. And when buying video games I never buy something that isn't at least 50% off lol, so I end up getting the games 2-3 years after everyone. It's another mental barrier, because I know I'll be able to get that game for half that price.
However, I could spend thousands in making big purchases, like an old car at $2k but three or four times (I really love shitty cars). I have no real problem spending, but not if I know I can buy cheap.
I hear you! I've felt left out of certain social situations altogether (no, I don't want to go for a playdate at Chick-fil-A every week, I don't have the money to buy food there that often and I'm not gonna make my kid watch yours eat french fries and not get any), and it's so hard to get a bead on how 'normal' people spend.
I remember declining to buy any dinner at a meeting at a restaurant and everyone being appalled. When I went to a restaurant meeting with another group, I decided to spend a little money so I wouldn't stick out.
I was the only one who bought dinner.
IM SUCH AN OSTRICH THANK YOU FOR CONGRATULATING ME ON BEING HERE :"(
WE ARE CLAPPING FOR YOU!!
Congrats!
Please keep visiting this channel. It will help in increasing financial literacy.
Mostly an Engineer, second is Hoarder.
As a dedicated hoarder I can definitely say budgeting really helps. So you don't feel bad for spending money
Mogul here ... rethinking how I'm going to spend my weekends
I'm a Hoarder and proud of it! When I see Moguls, I like to take a guess at how much debt they have. One day I'll be brave enough to actually ask one.
Natalie Fontane I absolutely hate moguls so much. They actually give bad impressions with those products
You need to realize that hoarding and doing nothing with it is not much better than spending the money tho...I hope you invest that cash
You're missing the point. As stated in the video, no type is better than any other. Having pride in your type is just snobbery. You have something to learn from a mogul and they have something to learn from you.
@@JO11190 hoarder is definetly better than a mogul, sure the money doesnt rise with inflation but its better than being broke.
I like to look at people driving fancy cars like Range Rovers and think "I bet they are leasing that thing and have no savings"
Loved this two cents. Am a hoarder and engineer. At some point when i was younger i was an ostrich.
I had a target for an emergency fund.reached it and in typical hoarder fashion..i shifted the goal posts! Reached new goal...and guess what..shifted the goal posts again. Financial security is so elusive😢
1:54 I'm almost alarmed how much that hit the nail on the head. I've been saying "money is security" since I was about 14.
Hoarder here! I feel so generous to myself for having budgeted eating out TWICE a month! xD
Hello Group. I'm a hoarder. Sometimes I cut out lunch to save money and cut down on carbs. Oh who am I kidding, just to save money.
Haha! Kudos, to that, I feel you bro
Geez who do you think you are, Bill gates? That's too rich for our taste.
Think about how Much that $20 invested@8% over 30years. How was your $200 lunch?
:O
LOL. J/k.
Lol twice a month, last year I don't think I spent more than $300 in eating out
Internet high five. I eat bread for lunch every day. Not any old bread, the cheapest bread. Except on the weekend, when I eat mid-range nice bread.
I'm an engineer now, but when I graduated college I was an ostrich: I had zero financial literacy and was too embarrassed to admit as much and ask for help, so I mostly ignored financial matters and hoped that they would go away. So hey, there's hope! You can grow and improve!
So was I! And my debt kept piling up because not even McDonald's wanted to hire me 😭
Remember, these are just generalities and you are not alone if you don't resonate with them.
Honestly, I didn't resonate with any of these.
Engineer right here.
That section nailed me perfectly.
Same here. Love the game of it!
That guy in the engineer portion eyeballing the money game is my spirit animal
Me too. I love the game of budgeting, trying to work out the best way to do things. working my spreadsheets and my budget apps. figuring out the cheapest way to do things, cheapest way to pay bills or debts. I don't want anymore debt, but I love tracking my fico score the same way I would track the level of a video game character. lol.
@@IllinoisTrafficAttorney lol, I played monopoly a few months ago with my friends... haha.
somewhat social spender and hoarder.insurance ostrich wow
I'm a hoarder keeping every penny for a stormy day that might come and the relief for me was to have a budget to feel safe when spending great awesome super duper 😎 video very informative and helpful keep up the great work 👍👍 👍
I'm definitely a hoarder. I was raised to live modestly and to think of loans as the ultimate evil. In case i ever need a loan i am working towards making that loan as small as possible.
Lol try having a place to live without rent or mortgage around Boston. I wish I could buy cash, but it's so freaking expensive here.
You guys are the financial parents I never knew I needed!
Thanks Two Cents mom and dad!
I love these guys. I’m a mix of hoarder and ostrich.
When I saw the question before watching the video, my answer was dollar sign.
Wat wat
Ostrich here, such an overwhelming feeling when it comes to my debt and finances in general. Thank you for making these videos, slowly working my way through things.
Absolutely loved this one. Super helpful to see where I would be. Awesome work as usual TC!
Thank you so much!
This is awesome! Continue the great work and videos!
I love these guys! Your videos are so helpful and pleasant.
God bless!!
Love you guys! Your videos are so fun and well designed^^ Thank you!
I'm the Hoarder type. I always try to make savings because I feel insecure about the future and I think that I might need that money.
I'll probably die before spending my money.
Great video!!
Loved the creativity...
Great video and lessons here. I really liked how you gave suggestions, for each type, on how to change and best accept one's money sign(s).
Hi! Loved the video. I wish you could have covered the "Flyer" personality cause it is weird and I don't understand people like that.
I'm a mix between the ostrich and a social spender 🙃
This was the best video you had so far. Interesting!
You are simply Amazing guys!! Keep the great work up!! 👍
I was a social spender when I was younger. After getting out of college and into the recession, I am now some kind of engineer hoarder.
Former Ostrich here!! I spent 25 years being terrified of money. I’d go months without even looking at my bank account I was so scared! But then I found this channel and it started seeming less scary! Now I have 3 vanguard accounts and a high yield savings account and I check them all weekly!
Engineer/hoarder here, srsly i'm a true scrooge i have like 8 years of my expenses saved and i'm 18😂
I have almost a year of gross income saved in an emergency fund. Not sure what I'll do when I actually have my gross income saved.
I’m 18 with 10k in the bank. I’ve technically never spent any of my money ever
My daughter is like this:)) She's 11 and she saves all her money, she spends veeeery rarely and only on her dog's presents:)
I love your videos! I don't fit into any of these nicely. I would have to say I'm mostly an "engineer" but have tendencies of "risk-taker" and "hoarder" as well.
a very unique channel, love you both.
Definitely an engineer type. Way too meticulous sometimes but it’s for my own sanity
Wonderful video look forward eagerly for your upcoming video all the best couple
Dear lord! This is probably one of the BEST videos you have done! Now I know why I feel and act the way i do towards money and why it can be a problem around others. YUP! I'm a hoarder and it can be really hard to do something fun for myself sometimes even though i know i can afford it. Now i can start to think how to tackle that! THANKS!
I'm a hoarder for sure most of the time, but sometimes like an engineer. I have savings and wish I had more, but also I do have some mutual funds that are doing OK.
This is suuper helpful!
Unfortunately, I will miss the live stream, since I work swing, but keep up the good work!
We'll miss you Nicholas! Hope to see you at the next one!
Really well done!
I'm definitely a hoarder, and I married one too. I've got a tinge of that engineer type and have been able to use my spreadsheets and obsession over tracking every cent to create some budgets that allow us to vacation, eat out, give to friends, and enjoy life. All while also feeling good about my growing security blankets. It's difficult, I am also lucky enough to have an income that makes this balance possible. Neat video, I love your channel, essential financial concepts presented so anyone can understand. Thanks, and keep it up!
hoarder with a social spending streak, lol. my anxiety was always through the roof until i found your budget video :^) so grateful for y’all, seriously!
Knowing what type of money personally you are, and what your spouse's money personally is, and then knowing how to use each of your strengths to help each. That's the key. Thank-you for another amazing video!🥰💖🤗
The illustrations help to add life to these practical money habits. I love the example of the ostrich, as I believe that many of us have assumed this role when we are ashamed of our bad money decisions and get called into accountability.
This is the most informative video I've seen today.
This is my new favorite financial video. It's like the 5 Love Languages, but for money! Is there a book you'd recommend on this?!?!
Loved this video
I knew I was a hoarder as soon as the name appeared on screen, before the intro script. Now if you'll excuse me, GET AWAY FROM MY MATTRESS!!!! :) (But for real, I think it's also rooted in a similar background as the moguls.)
I think that’s one cause for the hoarding. In my case it was a result of me being a risk taker and a way to make sure that I was covered just in case my risk taking blew up in my face.
3:33 this is exactly how I sometimes imagine Philip :D (sorry bud)
Haha, no offense taken!
I'm a 6 wing 7 on the enneagram and ENFJ, Julia and I are pretty much one moon cycle away from being the same person. xD
EDIT: Also a social spender, I get FOMO and don’t get me started on my amazon shopping habits. . .
LOLLZ!
Getting together with a person of a different sign can be really challenging. This explains things!
LOVE THIS!
Self declared engineer, I love overthinking everything!
Although I've recently found a happy medium in trying side hustles where I see a definite turn up in these upcoming years.
This year went from an ostrich to an engineer 🎉😊
am learning alot financially from this channel which my parents and schooling never taught.
I find my Risk taker and hoarder battling it out whenever the stock market opens lol
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who has that problem. Do we have a risk taker hoarders anonymous group we can attend?
I absolutely resonate with Engineer!! Speaking of my financial personality, I've been looking to relocate my savings to another place, since it's basically losing value with my bank's interest rate 🙄 would you suggest putting it into a CD, online savings account, or Money Market? A video talking about the pros and cons would sure be helpful 😉
love this video!
that is such an enneagram one thing to say lol, im a 7w6 as well! i think im a hoarder which is kind of at odds with the enneagram 7 but 🤷🏻♀️ love ur videos! ☺️
I’m too young to know which one I am, but I still love this video. Thanks for posting!
Definitely a mix of a social butterfly and engineer! I loved this video! ❤️
Awesome!
I’ve been every single one of these In my lifetime (only 24), I am finally a risk taker. They all taught me valuable lessons especially being a hoarder and a mogul.
I'm half way between the Engineer and the Mogul.
I like the comment about Moguls usually coming from poorer backgrounds, it reminds me of a time when I needed a new windshield in my rotted out 84 van to get an inspection sticker and it was going to cost $400 and I didn't even have $50, ended up maxing the last of my credit cards and splitting $200 each to two different credit cards to get my windshield.
Compare that to now I own two cars, a 2018 I never use and a 2008 I use as much as possible, a rock destroyed my 2018s windshield and my engine went out of my 2008, I didn't hesitate to just throw a new windshield in the 2018, and engine in the 2008 and even thought about giving the 2008 a new paint job while it was already having work done. Meanwhile I have anxiety thinking about maxing those credit cards all those years ago, $400 then vs $5000 now, the $400 then hurt me for life, the $5000 now I'll forget in a month or two.
Well I just hired you both as my financial professionals....I paid with my sub, lol. Seeing as I am an "engineer" and my fiancé is a "risk taker", I'm soooo glad I have you in my corner. Great job 👏 👍 guys
I find it highly amusing that my wife and I are the exact sames signs as you guys. I'm an Engineer and she's a social spender. We get along great, but that's mostly because the budget that I created has built in play money for both of us so she can spend it on anything without feeling guilty.
Being the typical Gemini, I identify myself with both the Risk Taker and the Hoarder. That actually explains why I love to do two things at once, keeping each side of me in check by balancing both sides of me at the same time. Like my presence here on RUclips, one side is the Risk Taker, just shouting out my love for cake decorating to the world, with little thought to which cake or decorating idea to show my viewers next, and the Hoarder side of me, creating a second channel where I get to share my own Financial Literacy with like-minded entrepreneurial families, who are serious about teaching their kid about money! Love you both Two Cents. Awesome video, very well explained! Big hugs!
These are good tips
Im the hoarder-engineer. I am saver/planner starting to diversify through a mutual fund, an index fund and crowdfactoring app.
I'm an Ostrich, with a little bit of Engineer. I have less than the best memory, so I have to make lists, charts, and budgets, although I'd rather not. I'm at my happiest when I know that I have plenty of money for my next cheeseburger. Don't have to worry about it!
I am a combination of the Risk Taker, the Hoarder and with a touch of Engineer. I consider myself to be cost-conscientious but in turn it frees up more money to invest with. Which I spend some of my free time planning out my goals. I allow the "risk taking" part of me (my investments) to be managed by professionals.
Not a lot of social spenders here! Kept up with a monthly Budget for 13 months now. (No little thanks to this channel). It feels great to spend as the heart desires (charities or impulse buys) when i know i cant overspend with my debt and investments allotted separately.
As a kid I played a video game called “Donald Duck’s playground” on an ancient 80s computer. It involved working at different jobs earning money, then buying toys to build the playground. After a shift, the game would visually count out your dollars and cents. I never bought the toys. I just kept watching that sweet cash pile up. And I’ve been this way ever since.
Risk-Taking Engineer!
I think I am a mix of various types, I have many aspects of a hoarder because it is hard for me to spend any money on things that I consider a luxury in my situation (eating out, buying a car at 19 etc). I do consider myself partly an engineer even though I don't budget, because I hold very tight account of what I spend and how my money is doing. I have little anxiety about talking about money, and if a friend is in need I have no problem with helping them out, but I would never spend that much on myself.
I’m definitely an Engineer and DH is most likely the Ostrich, even though he’s finally getting better after seven years with me and my constant budget reconciliation.
I am a mogul ostrich. But I am working on changing that!! Thanks legit to you guys, you all opened my eyes and my talks with my husband is a lot easier now.
Okay. I am a hoarder-engineer.
Saving for financial independent seems like out of reach but I hope this engineer side of me can built the way. That quote about engineer motivate me. Thanks a lot.
Good content
hmm. I am curious which, if any I fit:
* I set a budget for all fixed expenses and bills, and have the exact amount + a very tiny buffer go to an account where all fixed expenses and bills auto-pay from
* All money not set for fixed expenses and bills is dropped into a general account where gas, groceries, fun, and anything not 'fixed' draws from. I do not budget or pay attention to this much, except to check my account balance every week to make sure I do not over-draw (I always know roughly how much is in there.
* Only debt is mortgage and home equity line
* I keep about $2k in savings, which is less than my mortgage payment
* I am terrible at trying to save, so do not bother, apart from a 401k at work
* My house, car, cloths, etc are all fairly minimalist, not luxury, but get the job done (3 bedroom (I have 3 kids, so more bedrooms would be nice), drive a subaru, most of my cloths are t-shirts 2+ years old)
* At the end of each month my balance tends to remain stable, not dripping into debt or growing into savings.
* On dates I expect to pick up the check, and do not think twice about spontaneous fun, So no anxiety or shame about most spending, but also no desire to throw money away or be stupid with it, I do at least think "Can I do this, and should I do this" and the answer is typically a 'yes' or 'no within 5 seconds.
I'm an engineer for sure (yay couple's counselling). My boyfriend is an ostrich, his sister is a butterfly and my best friend is a mogul. And they fit so well.
Lol when you started describing the Engineer i was like "Damn they got me 😅"
I'm between 70% hoarder and 30% social spender. I love to spend on my friends and on food! I'm also dating an ostrich and trying to help them learn
I’m glad that you’re helping someone out.
I'm mostly a hoarder who budgets so I can still be a social spender occasionally. Financial risks are terrifying for me, and when I save money for one thing or another, I always worry it's never enough and try to hustle for more money. Social spending tends to tempt me when I can see myself enjoying the experience more so than something material.
Could you do a video on the top financial gurus/experts today? (Dave Ramsey, Chris Hogan, Grant Cardone, etc)
My friend is an ostrich like 100% and im like a combo of the positive traits of the others (i do tons of research before doing anything) and I am so going to help pup!
"Hi Julia":))) Reminded me of the Confessions of a shopaholic's credit card scenes...
I was an ostrich. I hated talking about money, I hated whenever people value something with money. I kinda felt like I can be happy and content with just enough money.
Then I became social spender, and fell to a pitfall because I can't say 'no' to unnecessary spending. Like the video said, I started budgeting to keep my anxiety under control. LoL.
Nowadays, I become the Engineer, I plan things, budgeting, and start lerning to invest. That journey leads me to this channel and video. Good content you have here :)
I think of these I'm a hoarder with engineer tendencies. But as the video said, I don't really feel like any of them fully and completely fits me
Im somewhat a recovering hoarder. Savings and simplifying my expenses are still important, but i now budget some for dining out with friends and a vacation every other year.
Hoarder with Ostrich tendencies. I grew up below the poverty line and saw a lot of fighting about money, so I tend to forego social events that require me to spend money. Thinking about paychecks, internships, and financial aid & student loans for longer than a minute or so makes me too distracted to focus on anything else.
I'm trying to get better about it though. I've gone out with my friends a few times & I'm planning to spend money on something fun once a month this year. Exposure therapy, you know?
I’m an architect and a little bit of a hoarder vacations and food don’t make me anxious but pretty much everything else does vacation and dinners out with family is what I save for I have a budget and I tell myself “this are the things worth spending on” but buying groceries & household items makes me anxious because I feel the need to compare prices with every option available. I’ve spent half a year obsessing over where is the best place to buy groceries and what to buy at each store. It’s exhausting sometimes.
