My grandfather was survivor of the Bataan Death March. Really really cool to see that they named a ship after Bataan.
My uncle is one of many soldiers died in the bataan death march.
I commissioned this ship in 1996. Ingalls shipyard Pasagoula MS. Good times 😎⚓️
It’s very heart warming to learn that a US Navy ship is named after a historically significant fortress in my country - the Philippines - during the WWII where both Americans and Filipinos fought and endured side by side.
TIL
but then sadly, many WWII veterans were not given their dues from the US government until they were but just a few of them left... many died of old age waiting for what was due to them for their sacrifices in time of war as they fought side by side for freedom from tyranny from the Japanese...
@SteveNegley FJB I'm talking of Filipino WWII vets... sure your people are well taken care of... but OUR Filipino vets were mostly denied their just compensation until most of them have died... they too died for MY country... think before you start flapping yours...

Filipino girls love American Navy men lol
Wow, that is our province. Thank you for honoring Bataan and all those men, and women who lost their lives during the Battle of Bataan.
I was stationed on this ship back in 2007-2010, went on deployment with this ship and went to New York for fleet week, such a great tradition and amazing crew!!
For real? Me too. Where you work?

I was of the first crew onboard Bataan AKA Big 5 Plankowner, last ship i was on before I retired. Brings back great memories
We were on there at the same time. I got on board right before the maiden voyage...great ship and lots of great people and memories!
I wish they come to the Philippines especially the island of Bataan. So they can dock and do a tour on Corregidor Island.
Bataan is not an Island it's a Peninsula.
Thank you to the men and women of the US military for their selfless sacrifice and service to keep us all safe. Godspeed and God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸
God bless the men and women who serve this country every day to keep us free. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Manning the rails was always one of the most impressive events I participated in or watched.
Great story, Jenna and tour. God Bless our Troops
It’s inspired to see how beautiful our uniform Men and Women. Thanks for sharing Jenna!
So heartwarming that the great US pays homage to this Ship with its history deeply rooted in Filipino Culture.
Honor courage commitment 💪 as a navy veteran been my motto cince 1985 I'm 54 huraaaah
The ship is named for the Battle of Bataan in the Philippines, during World War II. 🇵🇭

Bataan is a place in Philippines, during WW2 the war was called the Battle of Bataan ending to the Death March…
Hope she gets to do a tour like this on the 77 Avenger that would be an amazing experience for her.
"BIG 5" ABUCAY Cafe. ABUCAY is one of the municipalities in Bataan. It's the first line of defense of the American and Filipino forces against the Japanese.
Military men and women .God Bless them 🙏
5:42 It is not a boat it is a ship because it has smaller water vehicles on it. Thank you all for your service to this great country.
it's nice to have a ship named after one of the provinces here in the Philippines.

God Bless this country! It's a shame how it's being torn down.

woww ... i believe that USS Bataan was named after our place- the Philippines 🤍💙❤️ "Bataan" a very historical place of war during WW2 ☑️😃
Happy Mother's day 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I want to see Hollywood movies or TV series about Bataan Death March today. This history that the Americans and Filipinos share with each other deserves some representation.
God bless america!
if I not wrong USS BATAAN... coming from BATAAN Place near in Manila Philippines.... 🇵🇭
Proud of US NAVY!!
At a young age my grandpa would tell stories about the battle of Bataan. There is a Battle Cry "Erlinda ng Bataan", she's a beautiful young Pilipina fallen to japanese army. As the battle cry heard the tide turns. Americans and Pilipinos never give up on fighting. My grandfather was 16 year old that time enlisted to US army...
Super cool
Very cool.
BATAAN is one of the province in the Philippines TY US🇺🇸❤🇵🇭

Awe Jenna. I love you sweety. Say hello to dad and mom for me. My heart goes out to all of you
Your Grandfahter was a legend. I did not agree with his politics sometimes, however as a leader and man there is no equal. History will judge. The GOP begs for a man like him today!!
I’m a lefty, but I hope the GOP can find their way back. The real GOP guys like McCain are severely missed. We didn’t always agree and that’s okay but we both cherished our precious democracy which is under attack today.
Wow! I am from Bataan, this is cool! And see the town names. 😱😱😱
Lol because of battle in bataan bago mo lng nalaman?

Nice story.
Wow nice ship and name came from bataan place in philippines that time the war in bataan
I appreciate that one of our provinces here in the Philippines has been promoted through this war ship. However, the pronunciation of Bataan is "BAH-TAH-AN hope you got it.
Hope she provided valuable services 🙏.
Will there ever be a USS MOSCOW and USS VLADIVOSTOK?
👍Hard work!! The Canadian Navy is looking to contract out ship cleaning….sad
Love you Jenna 💝
What is the average age of Captain in USN ? Capt Murphy looks so youthful
Mid forties and up. I'm guessing at that. My service was in US Marines. Most of my time was in the desert. I'm also guessing that a Captain on an amphibious LHD must be an experienced naval aviator.
Semper Fi.
CAPT Murphy is a native of West Deptford, NJ. He graduated from Rutgers in 1998 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and in 2007 earned his MBA from Naval Post Graduate School. He graduated OCS in 1999 and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2000.
The Bataan is a name of a province located at the central luzon
Jenna did a great job.
The Province i was Born and grew up in the Philippines.
I LOVE JENNA BUSH HAGER MAY SHE REIGN SUPREME
Ah my home NYC and the Navy what could be better.
Didnt knew there was warship named after a place in Philippines. Bataan is where a lot of American and Filipino soldiers died during the Death March.
They say that in the Navy the coffee’s mighty fine. It looks like muddy water, it tastes like turpentine.
Also bataan is located in the philippines
is the ship name, based on the Bataan base in the Philippines? where the Bataan death march was made?
GO NAVY!
The ship was named bataan a historic bataan who fought with american and filipinos
Corregidor is part of Cavite.
where did the Navy get that name USS Bataan, was that one of the province of the Philippines.
Lol its because of bataan war
Very proud to be AMERICAN !
No you're not.
A lot of people don't realize that when you go out on a ship even in "peace" time you're on a floating bomb and there's nowhere to go it's a do-or-die situation if you engage the enemy or have a mishap
US Navy viet vet. CVA-59 FID
Yes, but how often does that happen in peacetime? It's pretty rare, right?
WRONG !
There are so many things that go wrong out there that can jeopardize a ship's operation that civilians never know about. Fires in my opinion the worst
Getting back to peace time comment
You must have forgotten the USS Cole it had a big hole blown on its side by a barger most likely collecting trash from the ship. There's your " peace time"
@@josemelendez8549 Fire is a major risk on any ship. We agree warships have more things that can burn dangerously, but fire is the biggest danger on any ship, including merchant, cargo and passenger ships.
We agree the Cole attack was terrible and damaging, but how often do they happen, especially now that security procedures and policies are better?
@@LoanwordEggcorn procedures and policies that's laughable. I know you won't believe me because you haven't been there but there are so many things that happen out there that nobody talks about. The only thing I will agree with you is fire. Our worst enemy and I'll leave it at that.
Post about your experience in the Navy since you post like an expert.
@@josemelendez8549 Well for one thing, it's now illegal to come within 500 yards of any active Navy ship. That should help prevent future Cole incidents, at least in theory.
And we note they have not happened again.
I was not in the navy but have studied some of the hazards of military and other ships.
It sounds like we agree that fire is the top risk for ships of all kinds. Obviously I agree that a military ship has more hazards than a civilian one. Nonetheless they're both relatively safe in peacetime.
Was on that ship for 2009 deployment I was with 3/2 USMC infantry battalion as a FMF Doc. We were going to Afghanistan then we contracted H1N1 Swine flu “22ND SWINE MEU”’09 then home from the 8 month deployment and we were 1 day away from being off the ship and Haiti earthquake 2010 happened in January and we were home after 8 months deployment for 1 week and scrambled and redeployed to Haiti for earthquake disaster January 2010.
That ship was full of bull
I was a Marine Grunt. Thought they're 'Hatches' not 'Door's? Ah, the new 'Squid' Navy. The Lt. must have been a 'Canoe U' grad.

Named after my home 🇵🇭
The ship was named after the place where Death March begin.
Never got the hate for her, people act as if she was responsible for her father's actions. The Bush family is a great family, but "W" made stupid tragic decisions that we are still feeling the effects of today, doesn't mean his family is evil.
Bataan really is this Bataan of the Philippines
My old ship. I am a Plank Owner of LHD 5.

Having had a friend & former student baseball ⚾️player serve on the Batan saluting our Men & Women in the Armed forces.
we met a different captain of the bataan
As a Filipino, it is pronounced Ba-Tah-Ahn, double A’s
I'm glad you brought this up. I thought I was the only one getting annoyed with the incorrect pronunciation of Bataan. Mispronouncing Bataan as "Bah-ton" is quite insulting to the history of Bataan
@@moisesojeda1085 Creepy comment
Curious, did she take the normally required helicopter crash training where they flip you upside down in a simulated helicopter in a swimming pool?
I ran a Special Request Chit to go for a helo ride on a WESTPAC deployment in 1999. I didn't get the training, but I was briefed: "If we go down, hold onto something for reference. Get out, and inflate your vest once clear of the helo." That was on an SH-60B Seahawk, while the engines were on and rotors were turning! It was an awesome 20-minute flight and I got amazing photos that day.
Just a reminder that the Philippines was an American territory like Guam and Puerto Rico. The Americans were defending the American soil when they defended the Philippines against Japan during World War 2.

God Bless our Marines. Finest fighting force on this planet.

When the video shows the reporter being taught how to open a door or how to use a staircase....

How old is that captain?
This looks nice and all but don't forget the mess we have in USS George Washington
this ship should set sail to The Philippines in order for the China to see that we don't give up easily... and this is one solid proof that US and The Philippines is an ally ever since. Mabuhay USS Bataan!!!
lmao it's not that easy. I doubt that they want to fight China.
I feel proud for this ship, because i was born and raised in the province of BATAAN. And whenever i'm home, i always find time to go and give respect to the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice , to defend my province and my country, by visiting MT.
