Sad to hear of your abrupt change in circumstances. My gut feeling is that you will be safe proceeding ahead to Canada. Stick to your pace, keep your eyes, ears, and nose open, and you will get there. Thanks for the update!
I am hoping it will work out well for you all. I'm crossing fingers that we will get some rain to knock out the fires and you can finish Washington. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Wow natural disasters all around but with all the information you’ll make the right decision for you. What a contrast to UK hiking where you just wonder “will it rain again today”😂 Wishing you safe travels, Ash
Sorry for the vortex that is the weather and fires. Whatever you decide will be the right thing. My kiddo was right there with you this weekend trying to decide what to do. We’re not sure what he decided. We hope to hear from him soon! My guess is he continued north. 🤷🏼♀️. All the best to you and the gang. Stay safe!!
I like your plan. The longer you are away from the northern terminus the less likely you will be able to hug it. Maybe bounce a couple boxes north. When your given lemons make lemonade!!
That earthquake in Ojai near LA was only a M5.1. That's pretty mild by our earthquakes. - I would say if the trail isn't closed, keep walking. - The SOBO plan in California might not be a bad idea though. Good luck to all.
It is so hard to say goodbye to family on the trail! I remember crying for a good half a day after saying goodbye to someone I had hiked with for probably close to 1000 miles on the AT.
Wow! After all you've been through from the start. Now you have to make this choice. I was in Cascade Locks last year meeting my friends Potluck and Pickle and was able to cross the Bridge of the Gods just for the sake of it. I'm originally from Portland, Oregon. Anyway, whatever your choice, I wish you all the best. You definitely deserve to make it all the way to the border and to complete the Sierras. Doesn't matter that order. You can do this! I have 50 Mars Bars that says you can!! ;)
@@ashobrienoutdoors haha! Well, had to rethink the 50 bars. I don't think they have that many in the store! ;p Maybe a bakers dozen or so since 13 is my lucky number. Good luck to you all! :)
It’s a bad idea to go ahead. You do not know how fast this fire can travel nor the toxicity of the smoke. Remember that it’s not only wood that’s burning!
The Codgers are hiking north of you and haven't said anything about problems. They are a couple of days north of you, within 400 miles of Canada ,and coming back for Trail Days.
Thanks for the update :) Trail days happened this past weekend and the problems popped up just after it so if they are like me there may be a delay in their videos and real time so I’ll be keeping an eye out to see what they choose when they come out :)
Snow level was 13,000 feet in the southern Sierra from Hilary, so snow isn't a realistic problem. Most of the Sierra got enough rain to eliminate fire danger for the rest of the season. Flipping to the Sierra would have been my choice.

This year has thrown everything at this class. Hoping you catch a break and can make it all the way to Canada. Best wishes from class of 2024.

It's a very tough situation and an extremely hard decision. Good Luck, Rick

At moments like these it may be hard to believe, but the universe is right on time. You have all made good decisions.
Be safe; keep at it!
Nice Ombraz Ash.
Hehe thanks, they are the best!
@@ashobrienoutdoors I have two pair and love them.

50 Mars bars and I’ll make it to Mars itself haha thanks, I’m sure whatever we choose it will be great :)

Go south from Chester or Quincy. Plenty of clean trail in the Northern Sierra Nevada.
Sierras!

Are ya or can ya go back and do the Sierras?
at muddy but open

Did not realize there was that much gap between real time and posting.
Thanks
