- This little duet is from Solid Gold 1981-82 season and features song-writer Paul Williams and Marilyn McCoo singing some of Paul's hits (Rainy Days & Mondays and Loneliness) interwoven with One Less Bell to Answer, a Fifth Dimension hit by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. A big thanks to CutterCovina on RUclips for sending me this high quality clip! Enjoy! Music arranged and produced by Solid Gold's musical director, Michael Miller.
The saddest thing is that so many people fell in love to the tune of a Paul Williams song and never even knew who he was. His love songs defined a generation and I only hope he continues to write more.
Which other songs did he write?
@@mjh5437 "Evergreen" by Barbra Streisand.
I've known of him since I was 8 years old
One of my favorites of his is “Driftwood.”
we’ve only just begun
I just love Paul Williams. He's a great writer and singer. He doesn't get enough credit for his talent!!!
I am 72 , when I was in my early 20 ' and life a promise...These songs were my inspiration.
Now,I still love them, allways will, but its an entire different world sayin good bye...
It was fun( mostly) but alas....its over...
Regards from Buenos Aires Argentina.
Over and out.
Marilyn McCoo is such a class act and seems so stable and “put together” and quite beautiful not incidentally.
Absolutely first class. Paul Williams is a genius.
2024. This is gorgeous. I missed Marilyn McCoo and Paul Williams. Love this duet.
I agree! Just watched this for the first time! They are wonderful! I miss Solid Gold, such a treat when I was a kid. ❤
Marilyn McCoo is one of the most gorgeous women to ever walk this Earth. And her singing matches her beauty.
Who is watching this during COVID-19. Paul Williams a brilliant song writer
Oh the flow of memories of days gone by and I never realized I should've stopped and smelled the roses more.
Whoever is reading this...DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! Slow down a minute,be thankful, disconnect some things for a few minutes...even the BIBLE says you should BE STILL AND KNOW THAT HE IS GOD.
Take a deep breath, relax and know you can always be thankful for something!
+ideniseb i fart under your text
Easy to forget Marilyn McCoo, sorting out that era of music. But she was a fantastic talent, and a real shining star!
I love Paul Williams, he wrote so many great songs. She's a great singer! I met Marilyn in Las Vegas, she was very down to earth.
The happiest thing is that so many people fell in love to the tune of a Paul Williams song and always knew who he was. His love songs defined a generation and I only hope he continues to write more.
Two great talents. Williams overcame serious alcohol and drug addiction and he is still alive and kicking. What a gifted song writer and a good man to boot.
oh my gosh what a nice duet...am teary eyed...good to remember younger days
Love Paul Williams and Marilyn McCoo. Loneliness is such a great song. ❤️
Wow! I love his songs nad Marilyn McCoo's voice is perfect - Nice and smooth, unlike today's singers where they try and cram so many notes in one word.
Wow what beautiful voices.
So powerful, so beautiful!!!
Paul Williams is a genius!!!!
She has the most beautiful smile!! Love her, I loved watching her as a teenager on Solid Gold! Lovely voice she has!!
I saw him twice in concert in the 70's. Love him.
Lifelong fan of both. Brilliant talents.
Paul Williams is a very, VERY prolific songwriter who often is unrecognized for the many hits he wrote for other people.
👂👂👂👂💕💕💕💕 I was the 500th person to hit the like button on this song! I don't think I've seen two talented people like this in a while. And Marilyn... If she handed me a cookie she had taken a bite out of I would take another bite out of it
501 😀
And yes, there is an amazing amount of talent on that stage. 👍
2 beautiful singers..great
I am a big fan of paul williams I would of loved to see him sing back then
My favorite Paul Williams song (Loneliness) and my favorite singer (McCoo). Thanks for posting this. Williams was able to tap into a feeling and touch a nerve with this song.
Marilyn had a great voice and was SO underrated. She is also drop-dead gorgeous!
Paul Williams is fucking brilliant.
Gorgeous...brilliant collaboration ❣
Paul Williams was such an incredible lyricist poet and musician I am not certain if he's retired...I'm just speaking on way back when...he always made an impact in Poetry and lyrical song writing ✍romantic love 💘💕❤songs 🎵 have always touched my ❤💙heart ❤
oh god that was just fucking amazing. I never this even existed. Williams was a much better singer than a lot of people gave him credit for!
yup
Love you Paul Williams
I absolutely love them both, always and always will. Paul is a star with the beauty and star of Marilyn.
So sorry so many of you have missed this.
Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed this bit of Magic! What a Beautiful duet! Thanks and God bless you for sharing this. How many people know that Paul Williams was one of the orangutans in The Battle For the Planet Of the Apes? Paul Williams: A Little Guy with a Big Talent!
REAL music... REAL entertainers!!!!!
If I got a kiss from Marilyn McCoo, like Paul Williams did I would fall right off that damn stool. What a lovely duet. Thank you both.
No, I didn't. Nice name though
Remembering Paul Williams one of the best song writer and singer of 70's and 80's, than you for posting Paul Williams, many people don't know any thing about this great composer.
I've been a fan of Paul Williams since Phantom of the Paradise, but that simply was my wake up call. Turns out I had been a fan of his music a lot longer - I just didn't know who had written all those songs I loved so much ;-)
She is a princess !!! I love her !!!
i LOVED That song! Now i have to find it on here!!! lol
About 10 years earlier, he was on The Odd Couple singing a beautiful song to Felix's daughter.
Pequeño gran hombre!!!!! Genio total Paul William un compositor como pocos.......🇦🇷❤🇦🇷
wow, how gorgeous, the interweaving of these beautiful songs by these two gifted artists :) Awesome.
these two voices worked together fantasticly.
I love how he kisses her at the end of the song. Paul truly loves women!!! AND he's a great songwriter!!!!
WOW❤️💋
There are many, many ways to say 'I love you' and I bet these two would be great together in other ways as well.
Thanks
Wouldn't ANYONE have a "crush" Marilyn McCoo????
@bensev1 I'm 17 and proud to say I fucking love Paul Williams!! :) Ever since Phantom of the Paradise where i first discovered Paul I've been interested in his music. Fuck this new hip hop and rap shit.
What a GREAT performance .. Never ceases to amaze me how Marilyn NEVER trys to overpower the duet but sings to the level of her partner ..
I'd sing with Marilyn anywhere !
thank you
Love Paul Williams ❤️🎶
@bensev1 I totally agree!! I have left comment here on the Tube time after time about how this generation is clueless about what real talent is! You are so right about Paul Williams. He is a legend and hardly anyone knows a darn thing about him?? How is that possible?
It's because the entertainment industry does NOT want talent like Paul or a Bobby Darrin coming on the scene! Go figure that one out!?
Your not old, just smart and you know a great talent when you hear it!
Paul Williams may look "Like a troll" (in the words of my aunt, not me) but he is one hell of a songwriter/performer/actor. An amazing man, altogether.
Before the internet made *troll* a bad word, I loved the Trollie figures, adorable little faces with their turned-up noses, big grins, and bright eyes, not to mention the wild hair and naked, kewpie-doll bodies.
I still love that kind of Troll, including Paul. I would not have shut the door on that *adorable charm* 😉...
Nem precisou chegar ao final para me cativar!
beautiful !!!!!!!
AWESOME DUET BY TWO LEGENDS:):) I LOVED LISTENING TO THIS SONG AND WATCHING THE VIDEO AS WELL:):) THANKS FOR POSTING:):) MCCOOFAN:)
This is excellent!
Wonderful ! Thanks for posting.
Wow, what an awesome performance!
If I got a kiss from her like that I would have fell out of the chair !!! LOL
How nice!!! thanks you very much!
Paul Williams really could write. I wonder if there's any video footage of him in the studio working with one of the artists he wrote for. I'd like to see him in the studio with Three Dog Night working on Old Fashioned Love Song.
Beautiful!!!!!
happy times
Absolutely! Spot on.
Paul williams duff punk 😍😍😍
@bensev1 Not old - JUST ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! - Glad someone said it!
All know his songs. Few know his name.
Daft Punk brought me here and I'm glad they did.
@agoll85 In 1975 I heard Maryin sing this song without music. It was the high point of the concert.
Pretty good Medley for a short fella
He was a musician long before he was Little Enos.
That all I do is cry line from the end of one less bell to answer that she sings here is a million times better than the original song. It's probably just the arrangement
Fantastique
@bensev1 kodoo's go out to the 5th Dimension as also one of the best premier bands of the grov'in 1960's partner............I have all their albums from 1966 on..........and yes these folks that don't appreciate music from back than.........have NO IDEA what music was like as opposed to today's standards such as Rap and stuff you really can't understand the words and all.........
I recommend his latest video *documentary*. I remember a couple of his songs, but I have clear memories of his times on Late Nite ("Here's Johnny!"). I'm sad he's in that quandary of AA/NA dependency, but there's always hope to break free? I mean, he wrote all those masterpieces during his times of *decadence*...
The dream woman
Yes! Rubberduck!
Marilyn McCoo--who in her heyday had a three-octave range--is one of the great ballad singers of the last 40 years. Williams wrote some classis pop songs--but he was no singer in comparison to McCoo.
Just imagine if Paul Williams keep rainy days and mondays and many others to himself the Karen Carpenter legacy would have been so much poorer. I too prefer the mellow tone of the song writer.
why does it take forums like this to bring out the brave loud mouths that wouldn't dare speak out if people stood in front of them, say more about those writers than it does about the subject they put down? Paul Williams was and is clever and talented song writer that made a difference in modern music.
LOL!!! You owe me a new monitor, man - I just spewed soda all over mine.
100% AGREED:):):)
Superior!!!!!
the Fifth dimension had turned down the song Rainy day and Monday before this song went the Carpenters.
@TCinDC2010 happily, i know many more people would agree with me :-) karen's voice is worshipped by countless numbers of people around the world; just look around the web. and many singers emulate it because it is so distinctive, surrealistically beautiful, warm, rich, soothing, smooth, sweet, melancholy, magical, etc., etc. i actually feel sorry for people who can't appreciate the amazingness of her voice.
What the hell is Little Enos Burdett doing singing w/Marilyn McCoo??
Karen took RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS, and sold over 1 million copies and it hit Number Two on Billboard...so she made it her song!!
Little Ennis!
I've come full circle... artie and ant having belzer on... referenced Fred Travelena? who did an impression of Paul Williams? and now watching a 2nd video from him... I'm reminded of Bill Burr, just days ago... talking shit about, 'What kind of asshole writes a song about "rainy days and mondays??" ' l o l Thanks Belz, for making me feel like a kid, at 43... not getting the random reference... but everyone knows this song!
Only in his dreams.
QUANDO A HUMANIDADE VAI ENTENDER QUE A DIVERSIDADE É A NOSSA SALVAÇÃO????????????
#ugottalisten2b4udie #PaulWilliams #MarilynMcCoo
oh, trust me. with that voice she would have been a monumental success without paul williams. and paul may have written the songs, but karen is the one who gave them life and feeling with her unique, exquisite, and melancholy voice. and you "prefer the mellow tone of the song writer"? karen isn't mellow???
this was a beautiful performance. but leave "rainy days and mondays" for karen, n'kay? she was born to sing that song, as well as many other of the carpenters' songs.
A Doctor's Daughter & a Medley.
@theblakgeek That's why i said "new" :)
Am I imagining things, or did Ms. McCoo have Shaun Cassidy on the show once? I think I have a memory of a magical musical moment of them singing together. Perfectly matched voices for harmony. Is there anything she couldn't sing beautifully? Hmph... And Shaun Cassidy was almost entirely overlooked as a singer because of his more famous brother (and I think I read he had some discomfort performing) even though Shaun has the superior voice, IMO.
They sang Always On My Mind.
