For the 2nd half of his time there and his 5 years in prison, there have been many accounts of deteriorating mental state, said to be very fragile. The US's primary goal was extraditing him & sentencing him to a long period of prison. Failing that, next best thing, their target rots in a UK prison, as the very long extradition process is worked thru. That's what they got, their second choice, with UK's gleeful help. 12 years of being locked away. He was on suicide watch off and on while in Belmarsh. That's 12 years away from family and friends he ain't getting back.
