Stick with mate, I fished reel-up like you for 40 years, but learned to fish reel-down and both ways feel natural to me now. Nowadays, if I’m fishing a mark close in I’ll fish reel-up, but if I’m fishing at distance I’ll fish reel--down. Nice to have the extra option, makes you a more versatile angler imo 👍
Aside from the benefits of casting, youll find it so much better when bringing fish close in at snaggy marks like mostyn. 14' rod reel down you basically have the full length of the rod out when a fish is under your feet, i find that gives me more leverage when a hooked fish is trying to dig in, also, you keep leads higher in the water above any rocks etc when winding in. Hope that made sense. Stick with it. You wont look back.
THERE WAS AN OLD VHS I HAD YEARS AGO AS A YOUNG TEEN , IT WAS CALLED "mastercast " BY neil mackellow AND JOHN WILSON. IT WAS ALL ABOUT HOW TO PENDULUM CAST HELPED ME OUT BACK IN THE DAY
@@North.West.Angling You'll get used to it, I always cast low reel when I fished matches then switched to high reel 30 years ago when I started rock fishing, 3 years ago I had an operation so went back to low, I think I get better distance with the reel down
Just a few tips pal.. your arms are too close together on the rod.. try and keep your arms extended when you turn round and practice with 200g and go slooow on the turn then get that left arm pulling back towards your chest.. keep your feet planted on the ground and don't move them about if you can😁if you're wanting to learn pendulum stick with a ground cast till your hitting at least 200yrds.. stick your right hand up the rod and have the reel in the middle of your chest 👍check my vid on pendulum and ground cast 🧐
Appreciate the feedback mate 👍🏻 I thought they felt a little close together but because it’s new to me I wasn’t sure. Think it’s just me getting a feel for the reel down first then I will 100% try what you’ve said and see how I get on with it 👍🏻 I will go and check that video out now 👌🏻🎣
Steve I only do an over head cast with the reel low am not a big caster max with bait 100 yards and that’s to much most of the time, don’t get to hung up on distance. I use a peace of shrink wrap so I know each time where to have my right hand. Next time you see Jay ask him he will put you on the right path 👍
@@North.West.Angling forgot to say ste on your fire blade if you’re like me a tackle tart get some mat clear lacquer and spray over the century logo it’s not lacquered and eventually it will rub off I’ve seen it happen 👍 Good luck with the casting…
Hi mate Do you really need to cast far distance to catch fish? In my opinion you don’t bcz the fish comes to feed in close distance. I live in Wallasey and I fish locally I always catch my fish in close range and I have seen lots of guys caught the fish in close range especially in river Mersey. Personally I think it isn’t gonna catch you more fish but if you wanna learn just for fun go for it. Regards
I’ve caught plenty of fish and do really well how I’ve been fishing so it’s purely just for a change and to see if I can maybe get more distance. Sometimes having that extra 20/30 yards can pay off but I’m not concerned too much about it.
@@North.West.Angling great hopefully you achieve. Wouldn’t it be better to use something like t800 for distance? I spoke with an Italian fisherman youtuber he really knows about century rods I spoke about century super match graphex and t800. He advised me to get super match for normal fishing but If I want distance he advised t800.

Just keep with it mate an just get out fishing i was exactly the same as you i couldn't go back now 😂
Everyone’s said the same thing once they’ve switched. Just have to look like a complete novice for a while whilst I get used to it 😂😂
Youll soon got into it took me awhile
wish we could meet up mate.
Keep at it ste casting reel down takes a bit of getting used to your doing it right practice first timing etc
Thanks Paul, I’m sure it’ll come once I get used to it 👍🏻
I find a butt pad helps when reeling in , I had to change to low reel after an operation made fishing high reel difficult
I find the reeling in no problem, it’s the casting that’s throwing me off a bit but it’s getting easier the more I still to this set up

Longer drop and get some octopus grip eBay
@@StuartFrancis-e6x getting used to this style now, have added in some grips for casting which is certainly helping 👍🏻
