Just performed this procedure and believe me, he was right about those wires being a pain to thread through the column. Especially if there is cruise etc. I was able to get it more easily by tilting the column up though, it seemed like it created more space. Anyway, thank you very much what a great video!
Thanks for the comment & the feed back! Yes, you are right. I did have to re-do this job at a later point for a different switch. & moving the tilt steering wheel made it so much easier. Just gave a bit more space you didn't have before.
I also wanted to state that I'm going to subscribe to you now and stop referring to the Chiltons and Haynes manuals, that are not only confusing, but it seems like they were translated from Chinese sometimes and are so generic.... waste of money. And I kind of hate to say this, but RUclips has turned into my poor man's college and I thank you... I appreciate you and I think I love you 🥴. Again, thank you Mike. Hey, did you happen to list crossover vehicles in your description? I haven't seen all your videos yet, but do you talk about crossover vehicle's? As I have been a fanatic of Pickapart, pretty much my whole adult life.
Most Dodge vehicles have a tone of common parts. So, I don't really cover anything about cross swapping parts. I figured it was kinda obvious. Lol I'm glad your enjoying everything I have produced, your learning & getting something out of it.
I am currently tearing down a 1988 dodge ramcharger steering wheel to replace the key switch and was using a mechanics repair manual it follows pretty the same method as your video up until removal of said key switch in the manual it called for removal of a second retainer spring like at the beginning i could see something like it and commenced to yank on it And out came a plastic ring which was holding the little steel bearings now panicked i searched in RUclips and found your video i am a dumb ass should looked at video first in short i am grateful you did this vid respect to you sir
Thank you so much for the kind words! I am really grateful that this video has helped you! Good on you for taking the initiative & getting after it! Not to many people do that these days I feel
Excellent videos , I was just in the middle of replacing my dimmer switch and the actuator rod felt detached from multi function lever , now I know I don’t have to take the column apart , I can see how the rod just rests against that spacer 👍already subscribed
I put a small punch mark on the top steering shaft bolt and a small punch mark after the steering wheel nut is off right under the first punch mark. How you marked the SW can be off if the shaft gets turned. Easy to get one spline off if not done this way with punch mark on shaft and punch mark at base.
Thanks bud 👍 I just bought a '90 RC she's got the 'ol steering column slop..(snap ring im told by the previous owner) This helps alot...needed to know what tools to snag & procedure to follow 👍👍👍
Your welcome, I do not go all the way through to the joints where the knuckle is. but it gets you all the way there through the most complicated part of the disassembly. if needing of a diagram got to the ramchargercentral.com and make a post in the help section.
@@mountainmaninitiative1117 .. I'm joining up on there real soon! I'm probably gonna have to rebuild the fuel pump too...Im not seeing much of anything as far as a whole unit...just the seal/pump/strainer sock/level arm...🤷♂️

Nothing much, besides what I had filmed and explained. Just make sure it Fits a Gen 2 Dodge Truck from 1981 - 1993. Note 1990 - 1993 could be a little different. The more OEM the part the better before I forget. all Assuming you got a Dodge Gen 2 Vehicle. If you need more in-depth help or got a very specific question. Got to ramchargercentral.com There is a a lot of good info there. And great Guys who so much more knowledge than me.
So close! I’ve got bad movement in my column that causes it to drop out of gear and I think my issue is just beyond where you stopped. Wow that’s a lot of parts. I wonder if I can get to my issue from the back?
Maybe, but it could be all shifter related from the trans to the steering column. I would recommend posting a help request on www.ramchargercentral.com those guys can really help you get to the root cause. Plus, some have diagrams to help as well.
@@mountainmaninitiative1117 thanks I appreciate the resource. I found a vid with the same problem in the tilt column he had a couple bolts loose all the way down at the tilting knuckle.
Thank you for the tear down video! Your dimmer actuator rod appears to be my ignition actuator rod. I can move my key to the run position without the rod actuation. Would this be similar fix? Or is there something else to it. Unfortunately the haynes manual doesn't provide detailed instructions for this. Thank you!
Sorry for my delayed response. Thats a good question. To be honest go to ramchargercentral.com & ask the guys. They'll have a much better answer than I could provide. Also, to be be frank throw away the Haynes manual & actually buy a Factory field Service Manual. You can get them for The Dodge Boys on RCC. And your very welcome. I'm glad it had helped you.
Do you have a picture of diagram that shows where ignition switch is located I cannot find one. I’m working on my 1990 w150 but have same tilt steering column. Found a video on RUclips but was on a non tilt and is totally different from mine. Thanks. Great video.

Mine is an 85 with a different steering wheel and my brights are on the floor. But my puller won't fit the screws ain't long enough. Im trying to change the ignition. It won't turn into the start to start it. Pain in my rear
Sorry for the delayed reply. Sounds like something physically broke in the key cylinder. Over time the pins start to wear out and cause issues. I do not known whats hardware stores are in your area. Hit hit them up for longer bolts or a lengthy piece of all-thread you can chop down to size with a few nuts and washer. I hope this helps you man! Stay the course! You got this!
@@mountainmaninitiative1117 thanks man. I wound up getting it. I manually took the steering wheel off with a rubber mallet and sprayed some wd 40 in there to make it easier.
