We have a wildlife pond in our garden in the UK. We have koi and goldfish. They over winter fine, without any heat. I don't like traditional koi ponds with crystal clear water and no plant life. Leaf cutter ants are fascinating
My parents had a fish pond with mirror koi, ghost koi, and kohaku koi, all of whom survived for at least 10 winters in North East Scotland! Sadly one day they all disappeared overnight, we think maybe they were snatched up by herons.
@@Weasel0539 we went a decade or so without being bothered by them, so we didn't think they ventured as far as us. Ghost koi are gorgeous, and ours were so friendly too! They'd nibble your fingers if you trailed them in the water, and hang out alongside you.
Speaking of fantastic mimics no one thinks of, corvids tend to be adept mimics from bluejays to crows. Bluejays have even been observed mimicking the sounds of predatory birds like hawks to scare off other birds.
My sister used to work at a small rescue sanctuary for a variety of animals. They would release what they could back into the wild and what they couldnt they used to educate the public. One animal my sister fell in love with was her baby fox. I dont remember what she named it or even its gender but she used to send a video (or three) a day. The fox seemed to imprint on her since it was a kit. They couldnt release it because it was an injured kit when they got it and never fully learned how to be a wild fox. The kit was so freaking cute with her and seemed to really only deeply care for my sister. She also was responsible for a few other animal care like owls and i believe some form of falcon, but that fox was her whole world. Foxes are also her “spirit animal” so she said she saw herself in the fox. They were insanely close and very cute together. She got a tattoo of the fox when it passed away and no longer works at the sanctuary (she moved from ohio to washington state) and part of her wants to own one again but she would need a large outdoor enclosure for it and doesnt have the funds. I have mad respect for people who properly own and care for exotic animals in a morally correct way. For people like yourself and my sister who will do whatever it takes to see their babies thrive.
My dad loves ponds, and in all our houses growing up he’s made sure to build and maintain a pond. Saying that, his favourite fish for ponds are Golden Orfe. They are pretty hardy, very clever, and very pretty. Some of our fish are over 10 years old now. I’d highly recommend them.
I also LOVE aquascapes so fish are something i would look into. like how you love leafcutter ant inclosures I love proper fish tanks and think they can be so beautiful and calming.
I admire you so much!! You're so passionate about what you do and I love how much you love animals. I live vicariously through you. I can't wait to see you own some of these animals in the future!
I remember we got a gold fish during a summer festival and they lived for about 3 or 4 years. We were really surprised sense it was a carnival fish. They would take the pebbles from the bottom of the tank and stack them into little piles so all night long you would hear the little clicks. I kind of miss that sound it was comforting while falling asleep.
Hi Em, I just want to thank you for educating people on goldfish. They’re super underrated and I hate how they have this perception of being easy animals to keep. THEY ARE NOT, necessarily. Goldfish can live up to 20 years if kept in the correct conditions, not 1-2 years as most people think. Firstly, they need a lot of space since they grow very big, a rule of thumb is to keep one goldie in a 90lr aquarium and for each added goldfish, an extra 20lrs of space. Since they are messy fish that poop a lot, it’s easy for them to pollute their water, eventually leading to death. So water changes must be done every week to prevent various diseases, around 30% each week. Also, high quality food is required for fancy species since they have a delicate digestive system. I’d highly recommend Hikari (Japanese brand) or Repashy gel food. Would love to see a fish video one day! Much love from the UK x
I rescued feeder goldfish a few years back and they got HUGE! I moved and now have them in an outdoor pond, it’s always been a dream of mine. So happy to see them so happy :)
From the Philippines here! My grandparents kept a Myna bird called Kyaw for several years, and I can't tell you how happy I was when you started talking about their vocal abilities! 😁 Kyaw was so talented, he would imitate the sound of my granddad's car locking (he was kept near the garage), the sound of my grandma's laughter and sneeze, and even vehicles passing by!
Omg, yess :D I went through a whole phase where I wanted a rat SOOO bad (still do) and I made a whole presentation for my parents when they saked for it (lol they thought *that* would discourage me...)

Em's List: 1. Red-Whiskered Bulbul - Do not blame you there. That bird is beautiful! And having a little piece of home is understandable. 2. Goldfish - Well thought out ideas there. Kudos. 3. Mangrove Snake - To each their own. I'm glad you've done your research and have realistic expectations for your eventual snake. 4. Axolotl - Heck yes, I would love to keep some of these babies! 5. Leafcutter Ants - Again, to each their own. I personally would prefer to visit my local zoo for this one. They have an awesome setup there. 6. Mynah Bird - Gorgeous birds, though a bit to messy for me. Really cool that they can mimic humans. 7. Savannah Monitor - Kudos to you for wanting to be a great ambassador for these babies! My List: 1. Short-haired cats - Despite being allergic, cats are my favorite domestic pets and I would love to have two. I specify the short-haired bit because my reactions are not as severe. 2. Horses - I would love to have a horse of my own. They are amazing animals and I love riding and interacting with them. If I could, I would live on a ranch. 3. Flying Foxes - I consider bats to be absolutely adorable, and would love to own some flying foxes. Sadly because of their protected status, it is illegal to keep them as pets in most parts of the world. However, that doesn't mean I can't be an ambassador for them! 4. Rabbits - I have actually owned a rabbit before, and I adore these furry little critters. I would love a chance to own one or two again and keep them in a large outdoor hutch. 5. Kestrels - These little guys are my favorite falcons due to their size and color. I would happily get a falconry license for a chance to own some of these adorable birds!
I’m too late (but whatever)! And I literally have this WHOLE ENTIRE SKETCH BOOK DEDICATED to animals that I absolutely love and just simply give them lots of love and care (and not putting them in a tiny tiny tiny cage).
Hi EM! When you do keep a axolotl, please don’t make the mistakes I did! Do not put rock as substrate. I had two axolotls, one died of impaction from eating rocks. PS. Axolotls love to eat ghost shrimp, but long red wigglers(worms) do work as well. :)
What I love about ponds is that native wildlife will often set up shop there too. Green Frogs are a great example of a species which will set up shop and provide you with antics.
I want tons of animals as pets, so many reptiles, so many invertebrates, so many mammals, so many aquatics, so many... so many, but that probably wouldn’t be good for me or the animals, since I definitely would not be able to keep up, now I have a betta fish and I REALLY want a hamster, a simple hamster, I would also love a tarantula, a Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula, yeah. I would maybe also keep a fox when I grow up, would be a lot of work though. Everything you have on your list I would absolutely love to keep as well. Love💖
Your comment about goldfish I think applies to many animals. The more space and enrichment the more behaviors you will see. My rabbits are outdoor rabbits. Year round. They have good shelters and have shelters just for food and water. My girls live in a colony also. Many people keep them as single pets but they arent domesticated North American rabbits they are decended from the rabbits that live in groups from Europe. I notice when I keep just girls in the colony we have few problems. Also they live in a large pen. One we are expanding. With time saved feeding and watering and cleaning in our setup time is shaved off we get more time with them. Our girls actually take turns keeping watch for predators and Ive seen how tough they are. Ive seen them chase off weasels. This group is pretty good. I have more time to pay attention to their behavior typically so if a girl is too aggressive we deal with the issue. We rehomed Emily to a great home shes wonderful with people but in a group she scalps butts. We see the good and the bad behavior of rabbits both behaviors necessary for their survival typically but if someone isn't good in the group to the point it isnt being made better we will rehome to a pet household. Now Emily is the only bunny but lots of people love and free roam sorta. She has a room. Our other girls were much happier when she was gone. They work together really well. The few tiffs they have arent a big deal within normal pecking order stuff. Nothing above and beyond like Emily was behaving. I wouldnt have noticed all this behavior in a cage setup like most livestock rabbits and I can't have free roam indoor rabbits in our small space. Our boys are in hutches but get more one on one time since they arent friendly with other boys unfortunately. Our girl rabbits act wild but soon as we go in they are great with us. Very people friendly come right up to us get loving and go back to running around doing their thing. Some people think rabbits are dumb but they are way smarter than people give them credit for.

I've always wanted to keep many animals. I hope it happens some day when I'm ready. -Gerbils -African Fat Tailed Geckos - A Leopard Gecko - I want snakes too, I'm not sure what it would be. - I also want to keep an Axolotl - I want a dog for sure I'm not sure what breed and I would have to do more research. - I also want salamanders someday - Small Parrots (specifically the Cockatiel I've been want one for a while) Someday. Definitely not know though. And I have to do more research and when I have more experience with animals. And better equipped. And not all at once.
Corn snakes are perfect for beginners so are milk snakes but they can be a bit difficult to feed when they are baby’s. ball pythons can also be picky eaters
Gerbils make great pets. I had a gerbil obsession when I was a kid. Just be careful, because they multiply like crazy and before you know it, you're overrun with them😬😬
I did not know the Red Whiskered BulBul was invasive to Florida? I live there so I'll have to keep an eye or ear out for them. Edit: The Axolotl song is just beautiful. Thank you for recommending it!
Iv been watching you since the beginning and you have helped me realize my calling of going to school to be a zoologist and a vet. Thank you for your videos they are so educational and inspiring
They’re quite a difficult dog breed tho! I am a vet assistent and we see a lot of owners struggling with raising them, but if you do your research in training them they can be cute!
I love how you were able to section out each time stamp right on the video! And just calling them "Animal #" was super helpful because I could check without giving it away

@Jyotiraditya Behera, you can if you find a male/female to breed with, just you need to wait about 9 months, after that, you should be rewarded with your own human.
@Jyotiraditya Behera, time travel back a few decades because that’s totally possible and if you hit the right year, you should be able to purchase an African slave.
Goldfish are wonderful! We bought four feeders when i moved into my house to make sure our pond was safe (the previous owner used some kind of poison and they suggested that we buy some cheap fish before any expensive one) 9 years later, and they’re still thriving! They’re bigger than both my hands put together. They’re incredibly interesting to watch
I brought home my third axolotl yesterday and they are just the most adorable creatures. Two of mine will sit in your hand and my other one is a bit skittish but likes it when you sit in front of the tank and talk to her. You wouldnt think it but they get excited to see you! I love them!
My Relatives Always had Mynah Birds since childhood. Also every resort we visit has Mynah Birds. Never really thought they're rare or uncommon until I saw this vid.
1. The axolotl song was beautiful 2. What do you think would be a good beginner pet? (not a reptile, my mom does not like them ^n^) 3. What do you think about Sphynx Cats?
Totally agree on the goldfish I live in Georgia and had a pond. Bought a dozen feeders to start the pond. About half died. But the ones that lived, OMG. They all turned a brilliant red orange color. And after a year I had so many I was giving them away. Pond was 12x12 and 1 to 1.5 feet deep. I had waterlilies and pickerel rush. You don’t even need dirt with the pickerel rush. I just tied one to a brick and put it in a empty container and sunk it in the pond. Water hyacinth also grew like crazy. 3 plants in the spring and by august was composting them every week. (Very invasive don’t know why it’s available ). Any way... I had the goldfish, a couple koi, plecos, all did very well I don’t recommend plecos because if you don’t catch them and keep them inside they will die in the winter. Lotus is incredibly easy and interesting to grow from seed as well So yes, goldfish outside are incredible and pretty low maintenance I could even pet a few of mine. Love you and your channel

It’s true! Many people think that goldfish live short lives, around two years. But that is not true!! It all really depends on how big your tank is, and how big they’ll get. I remember when I was around 5-6 years old my mother bought us four goldfish. We soon realised that the tank wasn’t big enough for them, and moving them into our pond in the garden. We actually managed to keep them alive for six years! They grew massive, and lived a lovely life! But one day we had a lightening storm, and two of our fishies unfortunately passed, and the two that were left died a few months later. But yes, goldfish are amazing pets if you treat them right. 💕💕
I’d love to have a Millipede, they are so cute and interesting, I currently have a dog and 2 goldfish ;) they suck on each other it’s very bizarre. Lol
I used to have pond goldfish when I as a kid. My favourite, Excalibur, a very tubby short-finned fan-tail, would come and rest in my submerged hand at feeding time. I'd conditioned him to do this using food. He grew from a tiny pale pet-shop fish to a big, healthy, orange, happy, friendly pet I felt a real connection to.
when you said that "Mynah birds are super rare", i stifled a laugh because where i live in South-East asia, these birds are EVERYWHERE, they are the next most common bird you'll see after sparrows and pigeons. People do like to keep them as pets here(though most of them are wild-caught) and i remember growing up in an apartment building where the landlords kept 2 Mynahs, and the birds were taught to say many phrases (wich was ofc super fun for 6 yo me lol). But they are definitely VERY messy birds XD

Leaf cutter ants are fascinating
My parents had a fish pond with mirror koi, ghost koi, and kohaku koi, all of whom survived for at least 10 winters in North East Scotland! Sadly one day they all disappeared overnight, we think maybe they were snatched up by herons.
@@wolfiewifie that's such a shame. We do have herons so we keep a pond net over. We used to have a beautiful ghost koi.
@@Weasel0539 we went a decade or so without being bothered by them, so we didn't think they ventured as far as us. Ghost koi are gorgeous, and ours were so friendly too! They'd nibble your fingers if you trailed them in the water, and hang out alongside you.
@@wolfiewifie I think ghost koi are one of my favourites
Speaking of fantastic mimics no one thinks of, corvids tend to be adept mimics from bluejays to crows. Bluejays have even been observed mimicking the sounds of predatory birds like hawks to scare off other birds.
Thanks for your happiness I just had a bad parent teacher conference
For people like yourself and my sister who will do whatever it takes to see their babies thrive.
would you ever again own a tarantula? i love them, but i feel as though their care is misrepresented often!
Yes!!! I have such respect for aquascapists
I want fish When studying. I had them as a kid.
I admire you so much!! You're so passionate about what you do and I love how much you love animals. I live vicariously through you. I can't wait to see you own some of these animals in the future!
Oooh thank you so much, Sara 🥰🥰🥰
I remember we got a gold fish during a summer festival and they lived for about 3 or 4 years. We were really surprised sense it was a carnival fish. They would take the pebbles from the bottom of the tank and stack them into little piles so all night long you would hear the little clicks. I kind of miss that sound it was comforting while falling asleep.
I paused my program for you , feel honoured 😊 I've always found that fish are quite therapeutic in times of thought
Much love from the UK x
i really want ferrets (probably 2) but my life situation isnt the best for how much they need right now so i hope in the future i can look after them
I rescued feeder goldfish a few years back and they got HUGE! I moved and now have them in an outdoor pond, it’s always been a dream of mine. So happy to see them so happy :)
The Axolotl Song brings back memories!
The innocent days of RUclips 🥺
Thank you for standing up for aquatic animals. I don't see that often and it breaks my heart. You earned a subscriber :)
I would love to see some animals vs setups. Like the Savanah monitors for example. I hope you are doing better where you are!
Ooo yay I’m early! Some of my dream pets to own one day are rats, ferrets and Madagascan hissing cockroaches 😄
Nice choices!!
Omg, yess :D I went through a whole phase where I wanted a rat SOOO bad (still do) and I made a whole presentation for my parents when they saked for it (lol they thought *that* would discourage me...)
@@hetsteills2748 I got my rats a few months back got three and they are the best things ever. My mum loves them too much and sneaks into my room to spend time with them. Need any info feel free to ask.
On the aspect of goldfish, I have 3 fancy goldfish and they are amazing they are like little dogs and they have so much personality and I love them and getting them was the best decision I have made in my life so I definitely recommend
Mynah birds are so common in Singapore its actually shocking to hear them being a pet :O
Right?? It's crazy when you see them on the streets everyday, but they ARE adorable :3
Em's List:
My List:
I'm glad I'm not the only one who knows the axolotl song enjoyed the video :) :)
Hey Em! I would really like to own a snake one day!! 🐍
Ouuu which species!?
@@Emzotic I would love to own the tiny rough green snake! They're adorable.
I would love to own a reticulated python theyre so cute! I've done so much research on them!
Can confirm.
Snow in Colorado is 100% a thing that happens often. Especially at weird times.
In March of this year, we legit had a blizzard. It was like late March and it was really cool haha. We were out of school for a solid week I think.
As a fellow Coloradan I can confirm. A few years back we got a two day bomb cyclone, our chickens were not happy with the weather.
The rhino viper is my favorite snake ever, I’d love to keep one. It’d be dangerous but they’re beautiful.
Nice choice!!!! I love them too!!
I love you em. I'm truly inspired by you! Your videos on Tarantulas are helping me get rid of my fear of spiders! I love you so much and enjoy ALLLLLLL of your videos! ❤ thank you for being you
Jey Em, i got my giant african land snail today!
Congratulations!!!
You are so lucky! I really want to have one but my parents say "NO SNAILS IN THIS HOME". Now I keep two snails (native species) to prove them I can take care of a snail so I can get a Giant African Land Snail one day.
I've got an albino retuculartus land snail. When I first got them, they could only just fit of my thumb nail. Now they cant even got on both of my hands together. I love you Howard!! 💕💕
@@Emzotic thank you so much i love ur videos!

I've always wanted to keep many animals. I hope it happens some day when I'm ready.
-Gerbils
-African Fat Tailed Geckos
- A Leopard Gecko
- I want snakes too, I'm not sure what it would be.
- I also want to keep an Axolotl
- I want a dog for sure I'm not sure what breed and I would have to do more research.
- I also want salamanders someday
- Small Parrots (specifically the Cockatiel I've been want one for a while)
Someday. Definitely not know though. And I have to do more research and when I have more experience with animals. And better equipped.
And not all at once.
Corn snakes are perfect for beginners so are milk snakes but they can be a bit difficult to feed when they are baby’s. ball pythons can also be picky eaters
WoAh
Gerbils make great pets. I had a gerbil obsession when I was a kid. Just be careful, because they multiply like crazy and before you know it, you're overrun with them😬😬
I did not know the Red Whiskered BulBul was invasive to Florida? I live there so I'll have to keep an eye or ear out for them.
Edit: The Axolotl song is just beautiful. Thank you for recommending it!
My top 3 “wish list” animals are : Mudskippers, Frilled Dragons and Dart Frogs.
I don’t think a single person (other than bots) have disliked this video. Really shows how much your supporters enjoy your content.
i would keep goldfish there are so beautiful
Yeah I jave six of them and I completely adore them. Although they are very messy 😬😂
@@rosemaclarenlee727 lol there also funny
I agree !!! 🐠
Iv been watching you since the beginning and you have helped me realize my calling of going to school to be a zoologist and a vet. Thank you for your videos they are so educational and inspiring
I’ve wanted an Airedale Terrier for quite some time now
What a great choice of dog!!

Me: clicks faster than the speed of light 😂
I make vidz btw❤️

Awesome!!!! 😍❤️
The axolotl song was awesome thanks for telling me about it

@@GreymanWalking That's cool!
A Savannah Monitor is on my list too. I think they, and Iguanas, are the most mistreated large lizards.
I'd also love a Caiman Lizard one day. I currently don't have the space for that size water area and don't have snails easily accessible.
Goldfish are lovely. They are a much more intelligent and interactive fish than many think.
i’ve always wanted to own hissing cockroaches 🥺
They’re fantastic
They’re easy and amazing.
@Jyotiraditya Behera hahaha loved this
@Jyotiraditya Behera, you can if you find a male/female to breed with, just you need to wait about 9 months, after that, you should be rewarded with your own human.
@Jyotiraditya Behera, time travel back a few decades because that’s totally possible and if you hit the right year, you should be able to purchase an African slave.
Goldfish are wonderful!
We bought four feeders when i moved into my house to make sure our pond was safe (the previous owner used some kind of poison and they suggested that we buy some cheap fish before any expensive one)
9 years later, and they’re still thriving! They’re bigger than both my hands put together. They’re incredibly interesting to watch
i would love a ball python, argentine black and white tegu, ferrets, grey banded kingsnake, african grey and a green tree python
I want a green tree python too
I brought home my third axolotl yesterday and they are just the most adorable creatures. Two of mine will sit in your hand and my other one is a bit skittish but likes it when you sit in front of the tank and talk to her. You wouldnt think it but they get excited to see you! I love them!
Your channel got me into pet ferrets so I really want them. Right now I have a hamster and a fish! Love your vids!
@Lexy Hanson Don't worry, I always do TONS of research before adopting a pet. And cool! what species of hamster do you have?
@Lexy Hanson I know what you mean, with all those critter trails out there. I have a Campbell's dwarf!

I would love to keep hognose snake and blue tongue skink

I also wanted a lizard, maybe da horned one
Lol
Oh my! 🤣
Millipedes really are adorable. I thought I was the only one...
I used to have pond goldfish when I as a kid. My favourite, Excalibur, a very tubby short-finned fan-tail, would come and rest in my submerged hand at feeding time. I'd conditioned him to do this using food. He grew from a tiny pale pet-shop fish to a big, healthy, orange, happy, friendly pet I felt a real connection to.
the Mynah bird is kinda scary. I don’t like that it can literally imitate someone’s voice so perfectly 😟
Yeah one day on the phone saying your pin number. Then it repeats it lol.
A lot of birds have really scary mimicing capabilities. RUclips talking crows/ravens, or Woof Woof the talking Tui.
when you said that "Mynah birds are super rare", i stifled a laugh because where i live in South-East asia, these birds are EVERYWHERE, they are the next most common bird you'll see after sparrows and pigeons.
I watched the axolotl song and now I’m a salamander
😂😂😂
I have a pond here in AZ and I have Koi and goldfish. I literally did buy cheap feeder fish and gave them a great life. They have grown so big and colorful. Really entertaining to watch!
