- On this episode of Stay Tuned, Tony and the team take the cheap budget build Lincoln Mark VIII to the drag strip--to put the new $300 cheap turbo V8 engine setup to the test! We take the ‘second’ cheapest turbo money can buy, throw it on a very cheap Lincoln car, and let it eat! Will a new turbo on the Mark VIII, strapped to its 32V V8, have killer hot rod potential under the hood, or will it be a drag strip disaster? Will the car explode, or will it pay off? How car can we push this vehicle? Watch and see---let’s go fast for cheap!

Tony is a good dude. An everyman. I'm so burnt out on most automotive people these days. Tony is the freshest breath of air any of us have had lately.
Ever since Finnegan left Roadkill all of his projects would cost a fortune to duplicate. Tony and Lucky keep it real. But MAYBE he should have spent a little more on this swap ;)
Thanks man, I really appreciate that. Just doing my best out here!
@@StayTunedTA you rock bro!
exactly. dude is exactly the same today as he was in DA.
And Motortrend tried to force Tony to act like a host that he wasn't. This is how he wanted to host a show.
Tony Angelo is the litmus test of any vehicle's durability.
It’s absolutely was, an upgrade is on the list!
Forgot whistling diesel ⛽
Have you met a municipal transit worker?
I shared the first video in this series with my friend and said 'Their going to take it to the drag strip, turn up the boost, and break it on the first pass.' and he said 'They're going to _really_ break it.' and we chuckled. Never change.
Some things never change, and turning up the boost will absolutely never be one of them. Thanks for watching!
@@BarbalinardoInnovations your Nova is super clean and you're a brave soul to let Tony take it for a rip
By "they" you mean Tony...
Like Lucky says......Tony breaks everything. 😁
Hagerty is the best across the board with their content. From an insurance company, no less.
Yeah, they definitely have some meat in the game now with their online videos. Between Redline rebuilds with a great host, Barn find hunter another great host, and now with Tony as a host on Stay tuned they definitely have something for most car guys now.
" that guy looks really disappointed in me". I think they might be charging you guys a clean up surcharge the next time you rent the track.
lol...he drove all the way down.....
Hate to see the Mark VIII take a dump. That was the first car I ever had. Loved the car, but I had the transmission replaced twice and rebuilt twice. Needless to say, in stock form they don't always hold up the best. Still super stoked to see what you guys will do with it. Hope you keep the 4.6.
Love this dude!
I play the "like" counter game with my 9 year old stepdaughter all the time. I think she'd give Tony a run for his, like, money! It's hilarious to hear her try to change her speech pattern when she's been made aware of how many times she says it. She gave me a swear jar. I gave her a "like" jar.
Losing timing chains on 4 valve modulars is not common... also the tensioner frames are aluminum, the LININGs are plastic yes, like literally every modern chain driven OHC motor...
thats why pushrod the way to go
@AcceleratedEngineering Maybe in the 60s but now a days they just fall behind time and time again to modern modular motors
@@ltx_luke ya no... more lifters in pushrod motors have been destroyed than timing chains on OHC motors.
@@ltx_lukeYou must not know about the lifter problems on the newer 5.3s lol
@@sdmoparmaninsd6713 at least they're easier to replace than a timing chain on a dohc v8
Next up - a pull-apart on the Lincoln's powerplant to see what we see...
A 5.4l 32 valve Navigator engine would be good find
That year Teksid that hadn't been modded was a heartbreak to see ruined like this
So that's $4100 bucks and a week of work to lunch a perfectly good engine.
Definitely subscribed.
lmao
Damn it wasn't happy after the burnout. I thought that was tire smoke from the launch but no. 15 PSI non intercooled on a stock bottom end. Can't wait to see the tear down and how bad the rods are bent.
Exactly. 10 lbs boost max on stock 100k+ mileage stock motor. 15 lbs was prescription for disaster.
There are quite a few people running way more power than this guy on stock bottom ends with these motors
If you manually shift the 4R70, it's a lot snappier on the upshift. Source: I used to own a '95 MkViii
Do the J-Mod then just leave it in Drive
@@ChrisRash I just bought a 95,what's a J mod? I'm learning a little as I go
Can’t believe being a seasoned drag racer you rolled the whole track and didn’t pull over and stop.
That's what I was thinking too.
If you pause it at 7:51 you can see based on where they are dumping the powder he pulled to the right side of the track he just didn't stop
He jokingly says that all the time. His background is drifting.
With the marks you need one, a limited slip dif and two, you need a jmod or a shift kit. You can easily pick up nearly half a second and sometimes up to a full second on the quarter
I love seeing stuff that I could actually be able to do.
Not some 6 figure non realistic build...
I LOVE this type content
There are no dumb ideas. However, implementing those ideas can result in disastrous outcomes. Now I want a modular 4.6. Thanks Tony. 👍
Get you one, definitely a fun underdog engine, i'm building me a 5.0 stroker 2v P71..
They're essentially Ferrari motors, these aluminum Teksid engine blocks pressure cast in Italy in the same factory. For historical value they'll be worth what the 427 SOHC camera are someday... But not today
You're officially "that guy" who just oiled down the whole track instead of pulling over and stopping
At that speed it doesnt matter, that only applies early on in the track..Doing 100mph near the end of the 1/4 it takes time to stop..
Can see where he pulled to the right at 7:51 in the video by where the clean up crew is applying the oil absorbent
and wheres the motor diaper at. All wise testing to the max people use them cause they know they will break the motor and oil will Be blowing from everywhere.
The way he did his his long burnout like he was on big tires. He got the tires way to hot and blew them off.
I do a bunch of work for Hagerty in MI, they're a great company that I'm glad we have as a repeated customer.
"He ain't running that thing again today, that's for damn sure"
Beautiful
I like the show with Tony and crew focused on the cars and not on making the videos. This is a great step up with Hagerty doing the camera work.
That’s the vibe we’re going for, and having fun doing it! Thanks for watching!
Great quick video. This Lincoln and the 5.0MG are my favorite low-buck builds you’ve done so far.
Tony is great at blowing engines to pieces!
Love whoever is editing these videos. Not overdone and they have a sense of humor.
I like the Like counter. It's hard to shake those habits. Makes it a bit easier when you can see graphically how badly one abuses those fillers.
Some awesome cars, Pizza, some great pass footage, and carnage. I couldn't have better content with my Coffee this morning. ❤
I'm excited to see what direction you go with the Ferd next, and curious if if will remain on the budget build list.
Stay Tuned!
I smell a new series: "Millennials in hoopties getting pizza"
@@Drmcclung 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My mom drove a 93 Mark VIII when I was in High School, we thought it was fast as hell back then!
Damn, that Caballero Diablo is GOOD LOOKING!
Seeing someone wear ear protection next to a drag car is such a breath of fresh air! Too many youtube car guys ruining their hearing/vision/bodies by not being safe when working on stuff and setting a bad example.
Death wheel grinders always drive me crazy and welding with no gloves guys
Don’t forget the safety squints while using a wire wheel!
@@DigitalN That'll keep the wire pieces from going straight into your eyeball!
That's the difference between kids in their twenties and dudes in the 30's/40's. I admittedly never wore any of that stuff until I turned like thirty and developed a ringing in my ears
"WHAAAAAT?"
@5:52 Did Tony do Tony things? Best line ever! These guys know him well.
If you don't want the track officials to glare at you, don't roll for hundreds of feet spraying oil all over the track! You're just making a bigger mess for them to clean up. If you grenade anything and suspect you're leaking, pull over and STOP. The track officials will love you. Great video, do more!!! :)
I figured he'd know this after the El Camino episode on Roadkill after painting the entire track with trans fluid.
The way it was pulling mid track nothing seemed wrong
5:58 Tonys like counter was awesome.
Can’t wait to see more of that Hot. Rod. Lincoln.
That Nova is legitimately great. Go run 12s at the track effortlessly with a baby carseat in the back. Pick up the kid on the way back home.
Tony, I continue to enjoy all the content you put out! It keeps me motivated while keeping me entertained. I’ll continue to Stay Tuned! 🤘🏼
One Lap Tony strikes again! Excellence in motion.
I used to run at Maple Grove all the time, its a great track. I'm surprised that dude didn't kick you guys out for that massive oil down. Btw you are supposed to pull off to the side and shut down immediately when it starts to let go like that. Not spread oil for miles.
I bought my 1998 Mark VIII LSC from Copart for $350. Fantastic machine and still only 67,000 miles.
How long ago? That's a steal.
@@Hey_Blinkin 2019. Right C pillar damage and cracked moonroof were the only problems. My brother drove it across the USA from Virginia to SoCal.
@@jeffshadow2407 damn, that was a good buy. I love finds like that. Good for you 👌
@@Hey_Blinkin haven't looked recently but 3-4 years ago these Mark 8s were selling for $1500 on the high end and could be had all day long for 3-400 with bag or ball joint issues.
MAPLE GROVE RACEWAY!!! I used to go there for the Keystone Nationals. 🤘
Tony broke it? Nooo, I don't believe it for a second. Tony is always so easy on the equipment. So unlike him... Lol . Hey that's the chance you take when you boost a used up factory motor. I loved the Lincoln concept, hope you guys get her back on the road soon.
You exceeded the Max Peeding of them Rods 🤣
The 'Like' counter was great!
Good on y'all for reminding ppl that a 12sec car can still be a fast fun thing
I think the track guy was more disappointed in the fact that you rolled down the entire track AFTER knowing you blew up 😄
absolutely. pull to the side and shut it off.
That dude was mad because you drug OIL all the way down the CENTER of the track! THEN, pulled it into the staging lanes still leaking oil. oh and hey... WHERE's THE WASTEGATE!!! ???
Welcome to Mark VIII life. Two steps forward, 5 steps back. Lol. I still love my 93 though.
Miss you on Hot Rod Garage but glad to see you got together with Derek at Vise Grip Garage
GO Go Gadget Lincoln! A friend once gave my son a Chrysler Sebring convertible with a broken ball joint. We had to fix the ball joint, wheel bearing, transmission control module and several other issues and he finally got to drive it. The first time he tried to drive to the beach the timing belt ate through the water pump case and filled the oil pan with antifreeze. Sound familiar?
Yeah, we hit the smoke screen for sure!
Ultimate way to spend the day as a car guy.
You can run high 11s with these at around 330-350whp.
I've never seen someone actively ignore boost creep like it won't hand grenade the engine lmao
This gave me flashbacks of my 4.6 dohc engines that blew up. Totally a pita to work on.
To tell you the truth I like for you guys to put a motor together for that old Lincoln some forge Pistons and let her rip tater chip love them cars good content not the same LS crap all the time thank you sir
What a surprise no wastegate and it made to much boost and blew up!
I am also pissed they only got 1 run in
This is why Tony's so good at building cars. Because he has to build cars that will be driven by Tony ;)
That pizza looked PERFECT!!!
Wide turns with a tow rope 🤣🤣🤣
The pizza lasted longer than that engine. 😂
Cleaning the track is part of the job.
Blowing up cars is part of business.
Fix that Lincoln. The Mark 7 and Mark 8 LSC models are some of the best driving cars for the dollar out there.
There is nothing cheap about Turbos....there is always a price to pay at some point. Still the best channel going though!
New channel, new show, same destruction.
Consistency is good.
Tony saying like so many times there is the most Pennsylvania thing ever😂 And he’s doin this all at my home racetrack. Fuckin love it!!
Ah…that’s not a ‘65 Nova. It appears to be a mixture of 1962 thru 1964 Novas. 1962 grille, 1964 emblems. 1965 Novas have very unique, one year only grilles, headlight bezels and larger, 2-part tail lights that are on the trunk lid as well as the quarter panel ends.
Never mind, just saw the graphic that says it’s a ‘64. Cool car!
Yep it’s a ‘64 with a ‘62 grill. Thanks for watching!
Very cool car. Runs great too. Love seeing Tony back here in the Philly area. Keep up the great content.
Boosted a few stock 4.6 Lincoln motors to 450 to 500 wheel and never had an issue under 600. Need a tuner lol or motor was already hurt. Or was making 600 plus
That Nova isn’t a ‘65, unless they converted the tail lights, decklid, and grille/headlight bezels. It has a ‘62 grille, and the Nova fender badges which were put there only in ‘64.
Good eye! That's my car, its a '64 with a '62 grill...Tony just misspoke a few times!
@@BarbalinardoInnovations Regardless, it’s a beautiful car. I’ve been into Chevy II/Novas since I was a kid. I have a ‘64 2door Sedan that my dad gave to me when I was 14, after he drag raced it in the 70’s and 80’s.
9:00 during flat tow parts rolling from underneath?
And this is another example of why people are buying and building the N54 335i XI cars and doing a few cheap mods tuning it with MHD putting some Ethanol in it and going 10's.Doesn't even break the $3000 mark. Cheap The engine wont tank on you. As well do the few maintenance items and it will be a great road and fun day car. Oh I forgot about the Ebay turbo upgrade for less than $1000 too. LOL. I have one and it's Nuts! They only (Usually lol) blow up if you push them over 630 HP on stock bottom end. If you spend a bunch of cash you can do the internals for the big 1000 HP numbers but really that's just getting back into the big money stuff then.
I have a 94 mk8 that ran a 13.9 to 14.2 bone stock. Nice build everyone
Sweet little Suzuki Alto Works lurking in the background. :)
Our carseat had itself a day! 👶🏼🏎️💨
Sure did! Racies did GOOODD that day!
Love your work Tony. Look forward to seeing more content like this
There's lots more coming! And we gotta get this Lincoln into the 11's!
Tony , go easy on yourself . You did what you do best , drive good. You can fix the car , I don't want to see this project being shelved or sold
will you guys try to rebuild it? cuz id love too see more of that thing
Love Tony's attitude! Specially at the Freedom Factory! Shi* happens! 😁
It’s like the Cummins Torino episode all over again. Definitely can’t say Tony leaves anything on the table.
He certainly leaves a lot on the strip.
Oil and engine parts mostly.
I have a 97 LSC and it hurt my soul when yours dropped all the fluid!
Notic how the only Ford out there poops the bed first pass...... should’ve done the ol cheap turbo ls build. LOL fun video guys!
Hey Tony I seen you at the freedom factory a couple of weeks ago it was awesome seeing you too bad It rains so much I love what you're doing brother love your videos keep it going
We need to get Tony behind the wheel of one of Cletus’s cars. I say Ruby to start.
That would probably be the only car.
Feel like with boost the rings weren’t gapped, blew out the ring lands and let oil past.
Tony is famous for his breaking of cars.
Man deserves every success 👍👍
Next episode “Turbo LS swapped Lincoln “
I grew up in the 80's in Oklahoma city on the Southeast side of town where at least 1 or 2 people on every single street worked at GM or worked at Tinker AFB. So we saw a lot of cool special edition cars especially from GM. There were a couple of those el calbero diablo's floating around the neighborhood. All lower case letters.
Funny side note I bought the 4th Cavalier Z24 ever from a GM engineer. He was super cool he explained to me how to read VINs and what it meant. He had just upgraded to the new 4th gen Camaro
Fun a s little car. 4 Speed manual, digital dash that actually worked. 2.8 V6 that twisted the whole front of the car into knots. 0 to 40 I never got beat, above 40, I got ran off from, LOLOLOL.
Scattered the block even before you installed nitrous. Tony the wrecker. DO you have any idea how jelly I am. Thats exactly what I would do if I had a popular car channel. Id probably use cheaper cars tho.... then turbo, then just a little nitrous just to get them turbos spooled, then boost to the moon!
Yep, Diablo was a real option. A guy in my dad's circle back in '84 had one. Dude kept it on the mild side. He only put headers and Edelbrock/Holley combo on it stock. Sweet custom pinstriping and some lowrider style lake pipes and Dayton wire wheels.
I've had 2 of the GMC's over the years. I've been told that they were about 10 percent of El Camino production.
So how well do u rate the max speeding rods turbo?
Rebuild it with forged internals. That's what I have in my turbo mark 8
You oil the track down, then pull it into staging lanes and dump oil there lol
Was just looking on rockauto and most of the air suspension components are still available and not that expensive, especially if you can do the work yourself. Yes, its more costly than coils but not that crazy and well worth keeping over coil conversions.
"Was that fun?..." "now me and the mad scientist need to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried" lol
A good thing to keep in mind for future ford endeavors. Do a smidge of research and find out the common weakness, then address those things before you run it so you can rest assured that a $20-30 part failure doesn’t stop the show for ya.
"So... Lotta smoke back there..." 🤣
Tony is the grim reaper of cheap hot rods.
2002 WRX 178,XXX miles. Installed bellmouth downpipe to go with catback. Installed aftermarket computer. Boost was supposed to be 16psi. Was messing with a Mercedes SL500 on the freeway and was kicking his butt until I threw up a smoke screen. Pulled off the freeway and it knocked like a diesel. Still got me home. Looked at logs and it ran 21psi.
One lap strikes again …. I love it , time to turn that cheap build into a killer money pit
it blew up on the first pass.good job
What a fun build on the cheap!
seen a lincoln like that pull the wheels up on the hutch back in the day guys from 4 aces owned it. was sweet comfortable af probably would go 11s
