I figure if my cheapie $300 GE from 2017 has so far made it this long, the Maytag will last longer. This has the same wash basket as the Whirlpool 4855 washer I had for a time and recently sold. My beef with Whirlpool is that with this latest batch of washers for the past 2-3 years, they've secretly done away with the lower balance rings under the wash basket on the models with stainless tubs like this, particularly the VMAX models. Now instead of the underside of the basket being smooth and solid, it's all open structural ribbing, so that when the spin speed is high, you can hear the water that's bounching around in the sump getting thrashed loudly as it hits the spinning basket underneath, like spraying water into a fan. It's also leaving a ton of open spaces for air to trap, and cause moisture and grime to build up over time. It also seems to be the reason Whirlpool's washers of late suddenly aren't as smooth and quiet during high speed spins as they were before, especially with how near-silent the VMAX and Oasis were once the drain pump kicked off.
    They're cost-cutting where they think consumers will never notice, but keeping their price tags high. They already took the recirculator pumps and built in heaters away too, but the lack of lower balance rings really ruins the deal for me. The upper rings on the new models also look much skinnier. Plenty can be criticized about Whirlpool's design choices as far as their washers are concerned, but one thing that can't be denied is that they've always had some of the smoothest spinning washers on the market, at least up until now. Even on this "commercial", it just doesn't seem as smooth as the Whirlpools I've had over the years have been, and you can hear that water thrashing sound during the spin even on this machine in the video.

      If you had to buy a washer today what would you buy? I just had to replace an 8-9 yr top of line Speed Queen and the replacement Speed queen was defective/damaged on delivery. I am desperate for a new washing machine. Had a KENMORE washer dryer set bought just after I married and still have the dryer(36 yrs - 3 moves- never needed service)! The washing machine started to fail after 27 yrs so we thought we were buying quality and chose SPEED QUEEN. Bought new from authorized dealer . Paid for them to deliver and set up. Neither of the Speed Queens so far lasted anywhere close to my Kenmore. This MAY TAG is LOUD! I agree with the thrashing noise. Then again, the newest Speed Queen (TR7003WW) was loud too. And it had a terrible high pitched noise that ran me out of the room because it literally caused pain. It didn't wash or spin right, made horrible noises, AND returned error codes repeatedly. It was removed within 48 hours of delivery. Our Kenmore (1980s) cost $300/27 yrs - 3 moves. Speed Queen (AWNE92SP113) cost $800/8-9 yrs - no moves at all. Speed Queen (TR7003WW) $1500/2 days- no moves at all. Sears is no more. That company ran interference and helped people find quality and value. LOWES and HOME DEPOT - no way! How is someone supposed to get a reliable washing machine today?

      @Smedley1947 6 месяцев назад

      The simple and honest answer is that you can't. I spent a month researching and in the end I practically chose by using a dart board. I ended up getting the Maytag featured in this video but I can almost guarantee you that it is not going to last the 22 years that my last washer did. If I had it to do all over I would have paid $1,000 to have it rebuilt which is what I paid for my new Maytag alleged commercial washer. I know it's not they know it's not a commercial grade but who's to stop them from badging it as such. The only reason I ended up with this one was because I liked all of the manual knobs. But that's about the only thing I like about it. I would give anything to have my old Maytag back.
