I recommended your channel to my boyfriend the other day. He usually falls asleep watching history videos but always has to change videos after 15-20 minutes, but since your videos are nearly all more than an hour long there’s no need to! He fell in love with your content immediately! What you’re doing here is fantastic!!
I’m torn between closing my eyes to fully absorb your soothing accent and fascinating information, and watching you brush items. The brushing is almost hypnotic.
Does your toddler son sit still long enough to listen to something like this? Mine sure doesn't. Even when he's watching his favorite movie (Cars), he gets bored after a half-hour and wants to go to the park instead.
I can already tell this will be a video I'll be playing more than once, absolutely thrilling, drifting off hearing of historic yarns with the thought of steam and adventure in my head. Thank you French Whisperer.
Silly person, rockets are clearly the coolest machines ever. They practically contain all anyone needs to know about the human condition in one object. They're gigantic, exceedingly complicated vehicles, the product of countless hours of work by the smartest of people and the most skilled of workers, that are nonetheless, in essence, huge cylindrical bombs that we light at the bottom. People willingly, indeed even compete amongst themselves for the privilege of being able to, ride these deathtraps for no real reason other than to explore. Rockets encapsulate our ability for ingenious inventions at the same time as our most animalistic urges. And to top it all off, they're basically massive erect penises. What could better represent mankind?
This has become by go-to video to fall asleep. It really is such an amazing thing to be able to rely on as a person who struggles to fall asleep easily. Thank you for your time and effort into your great work!
Loved this wide-ranging look at railroads (including the wonder of the Sears Catalog and the way trains completely changed consumption--thanks for the mention!). They're such a fascinating subject.
Also, the connection between steamships, railroads and the standardization of time is pretty cool beyond the need to keep trains from crashing. In the Gulf of Mexico region, particularly, regular steamship routes (ultimately linked to railroads) caused people to start expecting things like mail "on time." So...they had to figure out what "on time" actually meant!
I love your videos on trains, including this one! Please do another on the Robber Barons, which would be very interesting too! Thank you for all your efforts in creating such excellent historical content!
Ok folks, if anyone needs me, I'm back in the golden era and riding the night train. I'll just get my tobacco pipe and telegraph you when I'm halfway through my current book. Good night, everyone!
Seriously? Train sounds to lull me to sleep after you’re done talking? I’ll never make it that far!! Thank you, for a wonderful finish to an otherwise rainy, dreary weekend💤💤💤.
I've always loved trains and their history... And you present in such a wonderful manner. This video is on the right track to entertain and relax. Thank you.
as a railroad enthusiast, i take great pride in collecting the many scattered, discarded, and rusted railroad stakes, metal parts, scrap, and whatever else i can find thats legitimately worth something, even coal
Thank you so much for linking Boring Books for Bedtime. She is a superb ASMRtist and her channel has nowhere near the support she deserves. Another stunning journey from you again!
When ASMR really does it’s job! So I fell asleep to this video earlier this morning. When I woke up I found my phone here in the comments section. I had wrote “That is awesome. Thanks again for your help today and for ttys ttyttysss yttyttyyyyyttttt.” I don’t recall hitting comments. Actually the last thing I remember was watching the ashes of the burnt paper being brushed. 🤷🏻♀️😂😂😴 Thank you.. I needed some sleep!
Incidental comment: most people don’t realize that Phileas Fogg never uses a balloon in Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 days.” He does use a lot of trains though. Thanks for another relaxing history!
Yes that was random 😅, but try to find new things to do on this desk after you have already shot dozens and dozens of hours of hand movement and props manipulation ;)
Lol, looks like I’m 2 years late but welcome back 😂😂😂 I watched your channel about 3-4 years ago before you disappeared and than I forgot about your channel. Now I found it again and I’m so happy I did 😅 funny, but I used to watch your history videos to help me with some of the school work that I was doing and now I just graduated university 😅 incredible how time flies
The craziest thing just happened to me. As soon as I clicked on this video it just so happens to be 5am and I have a railroad near my apartment and the train had just honked right when I started this video and I thought it was this video but a part of me was like holy shit that sounds very clear and good it happened again and I paused the video and that’s when I found out it wasn’t the video lol but what a coincidence never been up at this time before
Omg Space, Trains, China, Mythology, art....you know everything I'm most interested in. Please do an abbreviated history or Section of Mexican history or Magical Realism sometime too please.
Im glad you do not omit details and that you are objective. I love trains but in North America especially do they got such a controversial history- from colossal genocide and repression of the indigenous, to the corrupt moguls, to the great leaps and bounds of industry and transportation they provided. You covered this really well.
I wonder who are those lads who put dislikes for these videos?.. what are you unhappy or mad about? What life do you have ... Anyway, the tube treats both likes and dislikes as an activity and thus any reaction is better than no reaction, so lets treat the dislikes as a kind of appreciation nevertheless. The topic is great! I.m only at the very start of the story but enjoy it big time.
Thanks! As for likes and dislikes, it seems people give it more thought than I do ;). I don’t even know how many dislikes there are under videos. From where I stand, mean commenters and dislikers are just hamsters in a wheel, they may think they are doing sth, but I just see engagement being generated and a vast majority of nice reactions. Really not a big deal :).
Is there any chance you’d do a side series of you reading a Webster’s Dictionary and repeating the sounds 3 or more times? I LOVE hearing you talk and certain words REALLY get my tingles going.
In case you did not see them, I made one called “a night on the orient express” about the history of railroads in general, and another one about the trans siberian.
So Mr French whisperer. This may seem like a strange thing to ask but I am curious. What do or what did you do for a living to get a nice house in Santiago.
It's not railroads as a whole that plummeted, it's passenger trains. The railroad companies prefer freight because it's more profitable. Passenger service was a nuisance; they only did it because the government required it. Amtrak relieved the companies of that passenger requirement; now they just have to give Amtrak track priority and charge it a minimal fee. The railroads found a niche market in slow commodity freight: if iPhones are shipped across the country every week, wholesalers don't care which batch arrives today as long as one does.
Hello French Whisperer! I would just like to tell you that I absolutely LOVE your channel. Listening to you is dichotomous for me, because on one hand your beautiful, sonorous voice is very conducive to falling asleep but on the other hand, the topics you explore are SO interesting I am too intrigued to fall asleep! Curious-do you research your topics and then write the stories or do you read from source material? Thank you for what you do! It’s truly incredible! 😊💗
Do you publish your scripts anywhere like on Patreon? I’d love to read them and appreciate the research you put into these videos instead of just falling asleep all the time 🤣
The script only exists when I am done recording and editing, because I use a list of detailed bullet points with only a few sentences written down. So I don’t really have a written script. But I think it is possible to extract a script from RUclips videos (I was told that, I don’t know with which software or site though).

I work in the Rail industry. I've never been this excited for an asmr video!
