This movie is seriously a Hollywood masterpiece. This will never happen again, it was so iconic, and i'm so glad I was alive to witness it for the first time.
Unfortunately I think you're right: I'll never be able to understand how amazing it must've been to walk into the Cinema and then see this scene for the first time. Its way too late for me to even try and comprehend how amazing it felt. I'll just have to settle for re-watching this film again because of how great it is: but I won't ever be able to realise what it was really like when it was released. :(
To be fair, Matrix 4 was never really about the action. They just included it 'cause Warner Bros would probably freak if they didn't see any of that. It was ultimately a movie about why the movie shouldn't have needed to be made in the first place.
Almost entirely done with practical effects instead of CGI. It's why this scene holds up so well even in 2018 when Matrix: Reloaded scenes became dated after only a couple of years. Truly this was a golden age of Cinema.
To me, the first one is a masterpiece in cinema, Reloaded was pretty good overall, not as good as the first, but still pretty solid IMO and Revolutions was a disappointment honestly, thinking it could have used the 4 year gap like between Matrix 1 and Reloaded. Still, a pretty good trilogy overall.
Wanna know what I really like about this? The fact that none of the SWAT/Soldiers are doing the "Jaw drop, deer in headlights" crap while these two are pulling all these reality-defying stunts. Even if they're getting their asses handed to them, they're still professional enough not to be distracted.
+sonrouge I hear you. There are so many generic bad guys that are just way too easy to kill, and it looks like they don't even try. While they could not hold a candle to Neo and Trinity's skills, at least they were a convincing SWAT team.
Benjamin Cooper Yes they can. Their bullets miss Neo and Trin by inches. Neo and Trinity, due to their computer-downloaded physical training, are just ahead of them enough to dodge the fire.
@@couragew6260 I wouldnt call John Wick shootout badass, more like Hitman-ish type that prioritized effiecency instead of flashy and unesessary but totally kickass move(like that dangerous melee move trinity and neo pulls on a gunmen).

At the time, I didn't understand most of it, I just knew it was the absolute coolest thing I'd ever seen in my life and to this day, this scene is still one of my top 3 all time favourite movie scenes. In all honesty, after Neo and Trinity just killed 5 innocent security guards in cold blood, why the hell would the assault team bother saying "Freeze!" and not just open fire immediately?

When The Matrix came out nobody could stop talking about it for weeks in my school. For months and years, there's always that Matrix reference everywhere. It was something we didn't see before! It was ahead of its time.
It's funny that pop culture often conflates this scene with "bullet time", when that was reserved solely for the agents until Neo does a tiny bit of it at the very end. What Neo and Trinity were seeming to do here was not "dodging bullets", which still move faster than they can react, but rather using their superhuman but not physics-defying agility to move erratically with all those fancy acrobatics so that the soldiers couldn't aim at them properly.
I remember watching the bonus features in this DVD--the creators considered "bullet time" to be any of the scenes that involved the use of multiple cameras set up in a "track" fired off in rapid succession to allow for the feeling of the *camera* moving in bullet time, not necessarily the cast/characters. That being said, I don't think this is an example of that either, just "normal" slow motion filming. My main point, though, is that bullet time is a cinematic technique, not a thing that a character did.
Ive never seen parodies of thos scene in bullet time. They only mimic the freeze frame shot of trinity doing that kick, which I don't find iconic so help me understand why it is
@@moxiemaxie3543 It's the first time that one of the 'hackers' (or whatever they're called) is shown using superhuman abilities and the movie calls a lot of attention to it with the freeze-frame.

In 2019 a older and wiser me appreciates the acting, the attention to detail such as the color scheme, the emotional set up to this scene, the rhythmic flow, of the editing, even the way Neo sprayed the unsuspecting guards at the metal detector. All up the ironic slab falling onto the floor after the gun fight. CLASSIC. Hands down one of the greatest gun fight scenes in Hollywood history.
I was very disappointed with the fight scenes, the movie relied on neo force shielding and doing little else. They were also zoomed in instead of framing movements in an appealing way. People mock the two sequels at least the fights were good even if the writing started to fall off.

and max Payne the original.
This movie is seriously a Hollywood masterpiece. This will never happen again, it was so iconic, and i'm so glad I was alive to witness it for the first time.
Kids today have no idea how groundbreaking this scene was back when the movie came out.
+vars28 still one of the coolest things I've ever seen
this was?
oh great another back in my day geezer
Unfortunately I think you're right: I'll never be able to understand how amazing it must've been to walk into the Cinema and then see this scene for the first time. Its way too late for me to even try and comprehend how amazing it felt. I'll just have to settle for re-watching this film again because of how great it is: but I won't ever be able to realise what it was really like when it was released. :(
Indeed, vars28... my argument, absolutely... Kids have zero historical perspective. They'll label something that came out in 2015 as "old..."
"Hhmmm needs more shaky cam..."
-Every action director today
You would be great on Cinemasins.
94dfk1 Thank fuck we can actually see and appreciate what's going on in this scene instead!
94dfk1 cough cough the new jason bourne
Don't blame action directors for making what customers willingly pay for. They are making billions off of shaky cam.
Shaky cam and filling scenes with so much cgi destruction you have no idea what is going on.
This one scene contains more action than the entire Matrix 4
To be fair, Matrix 4 was never really about the action. They just included it 'cause Warner Bros would probably freak if they didn't see any of that. It was ultimately a movie about why the movie shouldn't have needed to be made in the first place.
the only action in that movie is when Neo recollects about the 3 other movies
Almost entirely done with practical effects instead of CGI. It's why this scene holds up so well even in 2018 when Matrix: Reloaded scenes became dated after only a couple of years.
Truly this was a golden age of Cinema.
Both are masterpieces. Deal with it
@@moviesondemandoo779 Nah only the first one is. The second is alright, the third is total crap.
Then again, in the bullet dodge scene, only Neo isn't cgi. The background is entirely greenscreen in that shot.
Actually. The Golden age of film was in the 50s and 60s
They still can't aim or take cover for shit though.
Benjamin Cooper Yes they can. Their bullets miss Neo and Trin by inches. Neo and Trinity, due to their computer-downloaded physical training, are just ahead of them enough to dodge the fire.
Well that probably is because they are just programs, but in that case why does the first guard react?
They're not programs. They're humans plugged into the Matrix.
After Matrix 4 i can say "I want this old movies back"
The thing I find most impressive about this scene is that none of it was CGI, it was all real
they actually killed real security guards
Prepare for the reboot to be all CGI and visuals . Nothing's gonna be real in the upcoming one, not even the actors , it's gonna be all stunt doubles.

In all honesty, after Neo and Trinity just killed 5 innocent security guards in cold blood, why the hell would the assault team bother saying "Freeze!" and not just open fire immediately?
It has to be watched from beginning...They didnt kill any security guards...there was no security guard...😁😁

This movie was godly in Dolby. I hope 4 is half as good as this movie

In gaming terms, it's called "the wiggles" lol
Ive never seen parodies of thos scene in bullet time. They only mimic the freeze frame shot of trinity doing that kick, which I don't find iconic so help me understand why it is
