You've missed the entire point of Constantine. He's NOT a hugely powerful magician who refrains from using the extent of his power because of possible consequences. He's an extremely AVERAGE magic user who manipulates his opponents into beating themselves more often than not. He doesn't tend directly attack with his own magic because his targets are generally massively more powerful than he is. You also skipped over his only constant superpower, synchronicity. He somehow bends probability subconsciously so he's always at the right place/right time to do what he needs to do. Like a more subtle Longshot.
I love in Hellblazer Dangerous Habits how he IMMEDIATELY begins smoking again after being cured of his cancer. It definitely fits his reckless type of character. I did appreciate in the movie how he started doing Nicorette after being cured
Sweet video, I love the Constantine universe, and cant wait for the Constantine movie 2, hopefully Keanu takes the role again. I have watched the movie dozens of times, although having little to do with dark magic, it stills such a great movie full of secrets.
@@plummet3860 by minority, i assume you mean actual fans of the hellblazer comics, and pretty much everyone who gives a shit about the character, including its creators
He is social drifter with intimacy issues.... The man is burned and sick. His PTSD leaves him constantly reaching for his bad habits more and more as his stress grows and his empathy erodes. The man takes on a burden most people could never bare. Both heaven and hell don't want him so he walks the earth in purgatory.
Unless there was a reboot; the incident with his soul was that he forfeited to three of the most powerful dem. The demons wouldn't' share and each would have had to claim it. The fight between the three would have weakened hell so they all had to walk away.
Joanna was made because they didn’t have all the rights for Constantine and Keanu also isn’t done with the role so they couldn’t use another actor, so they came up with her because Sandman(Netflix ) is cannon
When I think op characters in DC, Batman is top 5 but he is not number 1. Constantine has stupid ridiculous levels of intelligence and luck. Batman is walking talking Mary Sue that gives nerds orgasms every time he does something even remotely cool. Constantine outsmarted Batman, Superman, and then Outsmarted Trigon, The Devil and then GOD. Not a wanna-be God like Batman has fought, he outsmarted the GOD of DC. He is OP incarnation but most people forget that because Batman is flooding their pants and brain. Also, a reminder.... he outsmarted the smartest man in the world...
Most people complain about the movie for "oversimplifying" the character, but you gotta admit that Keanu Reaves absolutely sold the character (pre-Marvel Universe) I really hope Keanu does a Sequel... This us one we absolutley deserve with todays graphix/effects
I prefer John from Hellblazer, he is not a super powerful mage, but a crook, deceitful and cunning human with knowledge, who knows the dangers of magic, so he faces opponents with tricks and smoth talk, magic is only as a last resort, but now in the DCU he became a kind of super wizard
Constantine (the end of his name's pronunciation rhymes with rhyme) is technically a warlock. His power is in part from natural talent (Sorcerer), study (wizard) but primarily making deals with more powerful beings that permanently increases he powers. Hence, warlock.
just here to say hitting a bit hard with that title aren't you? chill out a bit on the ROTTEN CANCER LUNGS!!!! you could have went with why his cancer cant kill him
Because not only does it speak to his character's approach to relationships, it was pretty groundbreaking in those days to have a bisexual character on a major label comic.
The Johanna Constantine that was shown in the Sandman series wasn't John Constantine's ancestor. It was a direct replacement of John's character. This was made apparent when the bribe that Dream made with her was to end her nightmare of Astra. John DID have an ancestor named Johanna though.
The price for life, is life itself. Constantine wouldn’t sacrifice someone else’s life just to save his. To save the world, sure. But just himself, no, not at that point in his life anyway. Plus healing, particularly something like cancer, takes an excruciating amount of raw power. Like the magical equivalent of a nuclear reactor’s worth of power. Constantine would have needed a serious power boost from several sources most likely divine in origin. Angels or Demons, either would work since their powers have the same origin. He would have had to channel that energy, which could have burned him out completely, and would have had to have been done consensually. Since it’s unlikely any angel or demon would consent to Constantine tapping them like a cosmic keg at a frat party, trickery was the only way to go. So we end up full circle.
John Constantine is one of my favorite characters from DC. Keanu Reeves take on Constantine is my favorite movie of his, and I feel it deserves a 2nd movie. As for Justice League Dark, Constantine was easily my favorite character in what is already a glorious movie.
No details about the ugly demon transformation in the kids shows? It wouldn't be bad for an ending to a second movie with Reeves. But, it's overdone in general.
They made one good movie, which nobody remembers, but everything else sucks. Nobody wants an idol that has cancer. Has nobody close to you died from cancer? This could have been awesome, but they made it wack with the kid shows. Swamp Thing... Horrible writing. No character can outsmart The Devil. That defeats the concept, making it for kids/comedy.

pretty sure hes a high level magic user
Agreed.
Average?!!
When you say average, is that compared to Dr Fate or Zantana?
He is only average if you compare him exclusively to other top tier magic users.....

John Constantine is one of my favorite DC Comics anti heroes.

A question regarding the artwork on your thumbnails... they are impressive! do you draw those?
Too bad they cancelled the tv show. It had potential.
Doesn't he also have a thing for King Shark, or is that just from that one interaction in the Harley Quinn series?
Where did you get that art on the thumbnail?
John's father wasn't killed in a fire, he was murdered by the Family Man.
So Constantine is the TRUE abomination? Is what your getting at?
It sounds like you're talking through a water bottle at times.
Sorry. You put it in. Should have watched the whole thing first

Can you explain the sandman Netflix series cannon part? I e watched it but don't understand your reference with Constantine

I prefer the old Constantine Hellblazer comics they are so good
Agreed
Spot on that origin was way better
The new sandman universe hellblazer comic run was pretty true to the vertigo run
I've been reading through all of the vertigo hellblazer and I'm finally at death and cigarettes

He caught my eyes the very first time him in a justice league movie .. he has since become one of my fav characters in comics.
What do you think of his live action character played by Keanu reeves?
it was cool . but I prefer the character in The cartoons. he's much cooler.
I really loved the Live Action TV series and was extremely sad they didnt do a reboot movie with him instead of some old ex president sufer cop
This. This here.
Why doesn't he sound like he's from Liverpool?
He was dying already remember
First he is not the most powerful that is wrong Zatanna is the most powerful get it right!!

I just wish they would make the justice league dark movie that would be great😊
Why your English in the thumbnail and title don't make sense? 😅

Because everyone likes to ruin good stuff with woke trash like this
Why not? He is...
Don't mess with people named John. This is a pop-cultural fact.

The art of escapeology???
I like the look of Hell in that movie.
Nurgle? The chaos god?
Keanu has played a character named John 8 times. Seems like a lot.

Thanks for the post in any case absolutely appreciated...,.
According to Gaiman, it's TINE not TEEN. The film ruined his name lol.

Great video love this British Magician one of my fav dc character
Glad you loved it!
Constantine is such a dangerous individual that friends and foes alike should be “prepared” for any encounters with him.
Its cool but i wish that they never made him an american in the constantine movies lol
Ah man the days of Emerald city comicon and going as constatine. God I miss those days.
which artist does your thumbnail art?
He got a half demon daughter.
Dr. Constantine would be an insane hero
baba yaga
*cancerous
Keanu as Constantine ? (sigh) No way that would work. I take it there is no room for new actors in or around Hollywood these days.
Keanu Reeves already played Constantine. His side kick was Shia lebouf

The thumbnail drawing is odd, note the hand with extra fingers...
They should make it so Constantine gets his lungs removed and has to maintain a spell for the rest of his life so that he can breathe.
Naw the lung cancer reminds us smokers tryna be the constatine of our own story that we don't got magic and cancer def gonna kill us and we are dumb.
