Always mix the coolant and water BEFORE putting into the engine...that is the only way to make sure the mixture is correct....And you never mentioned the drain plug that is on the radiator, open that and more fluid will come out....In fact that will work instead of removing the thermostat, yet it is a good idea to inspect that too...
There's a couple different additives there is the amount of distilled water used in the coolant the other thing is the low toxicity biodegradable coolant which is personally my favorite and then there's another component it's called Amsoil Dominator coolant boost depends on the ratios and when running a higher distilled water ratio with the Dominator coolant boost you can have warm up times that are pretty close to 50% faster warm up if you run it and straight distilled water it's about 54% faster warm up also depends on the vehicle and the way it's being run even if you run 50/50 it's still a drastic difference it's a tri-tiered surfactant proprietary allows the water molecules to get closer to the aluminum better heat transfer faster warm up better hotter air coming out of your vents this is the specific product that I mentioned - www.amsoil.com/p/dominator-coolant-boost-rdcb/?zo=5331179
I just did this on my 2004 C5, if you want to completely empty the cooling system ( @12 quarts) you have to pull the lower hose coming off the block.just using the radiator drain plug will NOT completely empty the block...
Yeah I stripped my drain plug on my car it cracked and it got corroded from the OEM Dex Cool It corroded the plug inside so when I tried to take it off I split and cracked it but it never Elite so I never changed it...... LOL

I believe the total fill is about 13 quarts but when you drain it you'll get probably about 7 to 8 quarts out. There's always a little bit that stays in the block. But it's always best before you change it to make sure you get out as much of the old as you can for best results. You can mix it however it would run a lot better if you did a couple drain and fills with distilled water. You can also add the Dominator coolant boost which is that colorful bottle. Always mix the coolant and water BEFORE putting into the engine...that is the only way to make sure the mixture is correct....And you never mentioned the drain plug that is on the radiator, open that and more fluid will come out....In fact that will work instead of removing the thermostat, yet it is a good idea to inspect that too...

i wonder why he did disconnect the hoses to drain it ...there is a drain plug in front side under radiator

The only thing a 160F stat will do is not allow your vette to get to operating temp as fast.
