  • This is a demo of the amazing Ursa Major Space Station SST-206 (v3 firmware), an exact replica of the 3 rack unit Space Station SST-282 from 1978. It was released in back in 2004 with the exact same algorithms, features, and functionality, but with an upgraded 140MHz Motorola DSP as a passion project from Chris Moore at his company named Seven Woods Audio. He also included modern versions of the algorithms, as well as a new Room algorithm that is incredibly realistic.
This demo includes a few sets of drums and then a random saxophone running thru the Ursa Major. I tried to show all the algorithms and "audition delay patterns" along with knob movements and dialing in craziness.
To my ears, this is exactly what it says it is: a 1:1 Ursa Major Space Station in a modern convenient size with tons of hands-on control.
UPDATE: After uploading the video, I received a MIDIMAN Flying Cow A/D D/A converter to convert the Ursa Major AES signal to dual 1/4". The MIDIMAN will allow a sample rate of 48kHz, 44.1kHz and 32kHz-- of course I chose 32kHz and WOW, what a difference this makes! See that video here:

I have a pedal, the Red Panda Context v2 that emulates this in reduced form...and i always wondered what it was! some great chorus from it though so i think its a different version the 282

Yeah! Crazy how the vintage unit is digital! Sounds nothing like it. Super warm like all early-digital.

Hey where to get that hardware unit you are using. That sounds amazing! It has made me realize that super clean insane kHz may not be the best thing. It sounds like the effect is warm and buttery and the fall off is like cream. Yet still super clean. That loop sounds like pure gold

They were sold from 2003-2004 and may have only been about 200 (?) or so of them. So they are rare and are only available on the used market and go for $3700-$4250. The original 282's sell between $4k and $5k. I only know this because I'm a nerd and I've been watching them for about 5 years now.
You're right: the lower fidelity with reverb and delays, the better they sound for some reason. If you think THIS sounded good at 44.1kHz (while being internally limited at 7kHz), just WAIT until you hear it clocked at 32kHz... I need to shoot that video tomorrow (part 2)

Sounds fantastic! My Strymon Timeline has a low-fi setting that I use all the time. I'd love to have one of these units, but with some of the cons you've mentioned (cost and connectivity) I'm afraid it won't be in my future. Have you ever tried the Audiority UM282 plugin? I'd love to hear a hardware to software comparison. I had actually never heard of this plug in until I watched this demo, but I'm now interested.

@@Manmademadman Same! Lo-fi delays are mesmerizing... because the Timeline has so much tweakability on the lo-fi algorithm (sample and bit rate, filter, grit, modulation etc), sometimes I will set mix knob to almost fully wet, using the dry signal only to guide my timing -- and use the modulated delay signal as the actual instrument sound.

@@Manmademadman its really not, it was the last design Christopher Moore did. You can find more of his work on the AKG 68k and some algorithms on the Kurzweil KDFX, which lives on today . I did correspond with Christopher Moore before he passed away and he disclosed this :
The total production size was about 180 units. The SST-282 { the original 3U rack mounted guy), sold about 1800 pieces. An SST-282 could be as old as 37 years. I'm grateful to my customers for valuing it still.
      Best regards
