  • The Iwhuruohna Tribe, popularly known as “Ikwerre” is a homogeneous Ethnic group that inhabits a substantial part of the northern half of Rivers State, situated in the South-South geopolitical zone in Nigeria. The Ikwerre people speak the Ikwerre language otherwise known as “Ikwuonu Iwhnuruohna”, which has several dialects across its many clans. Ikwerre land is stretched across four LGA’s namely, Port-Harcourt city, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, and Emohua of Rivers-state. Ikwerre people, who own more than 30% of the arable lands of Rivers State comprising the four Ikwerre local government areas total 1, 390, 895 persons, which accounts for 27% of Rivers State population as published by the National Population Commission’s website and according to the Provisional Census figures, in 2010.
