    Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Explained
Deliberately paced and densely layered, Blade Runner 2049 can be a bit hard to wrap your head around. What’s so important about Replicants giving birth? Are artificial people any less human than naturally born people? And even after thirty years, we still want to know - is Deckard a replicant? Let’s take a deep dive into this thrilling, cerebral epic.
Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner is the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi cult classic, which was loosely based on Philip K Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Though Scott’s Blade Runner didn’t do well at the box-office, it was considered as the foundational film in the cyberpunk subgenre. Moreover, many critics hail it as one of the greatest American movies of all time. The idea for a sequel first emerged in the 1990s. But financing and licensing issues took more than two decades to resolve. In February 2015, it was confirmed that Denis Villeneuve would direct the sequel and that Blade Runner’s protagonist character Deckard (Harrison Ford) would reprise his role.
    The World of Blade Runner
Blade Runner was set in 2019 California; the world is heavily polluted and a large chunk of the human population has already moved to off-world colonies. The all-powerful Tyrell Corporation has created bio-engineered humans, whose slave labour is the foundation upon which off-world communities are built. Called ‘Replicants’, these humanoid beings gradually develop self-awareness and become more ‘human’. Some break away from the colonies and escape to Earth.
In order to hunt them down, government-sanctioned bounty hunters called “Blade Runners” are recruited to ‘retire’ the Replicants. Because Replicants are so indistinguishable from humans, Blade Runners must use a unique ‘empathy test’ called the Voight-Kampff Test to identify them.
The 1982 movie mostly revolves around Los Angeles Blade Runner Rick Deckard, who goes after four replicant fugitives. They are all part of Tyrell Corp’s Nexus-6 model, whose lifespan is only around four years. In his journey, Deckard comes across an alluring Nexus-7 replicant named Rachael (Sean Young). She’s made with implanted human memories. Eventually, Deckard’s experiences make him question the nature of human identity and the commoditized outlook of replicants. Eventually, he flees away from Los Angeles with Rachael.
    30 Years Later
Blade Runner 2049 is set 30 years after the events of the first film. A lot has changed in this universe, and some of the events are hinted at within the narrative. Around 2020, Tyrell Corp introduces a new replicant model, the Nexus-8, with extended life spans. Soon though, the replicants increasingly rebel against and their manufacture is prohibited. In 2022, an EMP detonation by replicant terrorists causes a massive digital blackout and destroys the database of replicants. Tyrell Corp goes bankrupt.’.....

With that said; the way(s) in which each of these compliments one another is Absolutely Insane, Beautiful, and Wonderfully Staggering. (It seems that) one could come before (or After) the other. Either Could stand alone. And/Or they can/could in fact be one in the same Beautiful Film.

It’s also worth noting Joe’s personal struggles are what draw a lot of attention to this film. The portrayal of a man in pursuit of finding his true meaning in life while simultaneously struggling to decide between duty and selfishness. Men often face both of these conflicts for many years resulting in the male mental health crisis seen today.

Then sometimes I waste away playing video games with my friends and feel happy.

Too bad that great movies such as this one don’t do well at the box offices. I guess people are just so used to fast paced stuff with a whole lot of fighting they don’t appreciate a meaningful story anymore.

At first, i would put this on at night to lull me to sleep. I got half way through across a few nights and it started to get my attention. I decided to sit down and fully watch it……..soooooo fucking good. Everything I can ask for in a movie. Beautiful cinematography, sound design, and the ability to provoke thought in the viewer. I love how Denis portrayed female characters in a strong, beautiful, and intimidating manner. Bladder Runner 2049 and Dune have my heart

Blade Runner Blackout, is an animated "Movie" but its not very long. Then if you want more information on Wallace. Watch Blade Runner Lotus. A 13 episode anime that really takes a deep dive. But fills in a lot of games in BR2049. Good luck.

Thanks for this video! This helped me understand what was going on in the movie. I just rented it today, because the previews of it looked really good. I have not seen the original film. I recapped the story of it on RUclips to try to get a better understanding of it, before watching the sequel. I was half way through the movie losing what the heck was going on in the story. I finished it out though, and I was a little bummed of it being a wasted rental for me. I could not follow the story well. I'm happy to find this video, and understand it better! This movie is good, and even better with a couple more re-watches of the flick in the future, now having more knowledge of it.
    -Thank You!

"Why wilt thou give to her a Body whose life is but a Shade?
Her joy and love, a shade: a shade of sweet repose:
But animated and vegetated, she is a devouring worm:"
"Man divided from his Emanation is a dark Spectre
His Emanation is an ever-weeping melancholy Shadow."
"Daughters of Beulah! Muses who inspire the Poet's Song!
Record the journey of immortal Milton thro' your realms
Of terror and mild moony lustre, in soft sexual delusions
Of varied beauty, to delight the wanderer and repose

The movie is basically a sci-fi remake of The Maltese Falcon. Every character desires something. The main focus is Anna, but others have personal goals. For example Luv wants Wallace to see that she is the perfect replicant, not Anna. Deckard is the only person, who doesn't want anything but gets what the rest are after. Yet just like the statue Anna isn't what people obsessed searching for them expect. One is fake while the other is flawed.

its ironic that both movies were not fiscal successful in cinemas because (again ironic) both did not make enough to warrent a sequel
Blade Runner, which premiered June 25, 1982, was a $30 million film and made just $41 million
Blade Runner 2049 made $267.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $150 million.
the fact that movies need to make 2 - 3 x their cost is part of whats wrong with hollywood.
