I have a song that primarily uses the D melodic minor scale, the final section makes use of an F+ chord which inverts with every repetition. Using the augmented scale melodically allows me to treat each inversion as its own augmented major 7 chord. It was the first time my writing really started to open up.

Yes, I think augmented triads and scales are often overlooked when composing but can be very useful for giving different options.
