This young lady has, more than anything an attribute that is evident in other young people who excel at a young age and that is a maturity beyond their years, both mentally and physically. Her intelligence, ability to articulate, her focus and her ability to bounce back from Wimbledon so soon is most impressive.
All eyes will be on Djokovic and whether he can make history, but nobody will be surprised if he wins. This young lady, however, beats everything. I've been following tennis avidly for 30 years and can't recall anything like this, an explosion like this. For someone with so little tour experience, Emma plays like a top-5. Her court coverage, shot-making and mental toughness were those of a much older player with a few slams in the cabinet. She is a promoter's dream: beautiful, articulate and girl-next-door nice. She always looks like she is having the time of her life on and off the court. Blown away by this. I can't speak highly enough of Emma (or, for that matter, of Leylah, who is also here to stay).
Wta is always full of surprises.... what of the lativian Ostapenko in 2019 and Swiatek as well I believe their first tournament win were grand slams and they were also teens the only difference is they can't hold a candle to her beauty she is exquisite
She's only 18 and is arguably the most well-spoken athlete there is in the world of sports. Undoubtedly great for tennis. I thought I might not be so glued to the sport after the Big 3 hang up their racquets, but in strolled Emma. She's only a handful of matches in but already the highlight reels of her short career are fantastic to watch.

The poise, grace, maturity is amazing to see at only 18. Speaks volumes about her upbringing too. Amazing talent and the future looks bright. If only we could get more breakout stars on the ATP.
There are breakout men but the competition is too stiff. There hasn’t been a big three equivalent in women’s tennis for a long time now and with it only being two sets to win, no wonder there are so many first time winners. Easy to put out someone on a bad day but much harder in men’s tennis to do the same.
@rafa Goat Rafa is one of the 3 best tennis players in his professional era. It is unfair to expect Emma to achieve what Rafa did. Perhaps Emma can achieve that in the future but I hope the crazy media in London won't put that kind of pressure onto this young and beautiful rising tennis star.
@rafa Goat Did Rafa get straight A's in his A levels? Can Rafa race a go cart to an extremely high standard. Has Rafa beaten one of the best e-sports player at F1 2020? Can Rafa do ballet? Did Rafa win a grand slam from qualifying? Absolutely sure the answer to all those is "no". So, you're right, nothing like Rafa... she is far better in every way!

Yes ! Perhaps she won't win anything else , ( I hope she does ) , but what she did there can never be taken away from her , a truly magnificent achievement !
She gets out of high school, practices for 3 weeks and gets to the quarters of Wimbledon. A few weeks later switches to hard courts and doesn't drop a set (including 3 qualifying matches) to win the US Open. She then proceeds to dominate the press with the assured confidence of a polished pro. She must be an alien and we should all be living on her planet.
If she didn't get sick in the 4th round of the Wimbledon open, this would definitely be her 2nd grandslam trophy. Well done Emma!! More of these are coming!!
Her game lends itself more to Hard Court than it does grass, because of the movement aspect. Her major weapon is her movement. Grass is slippery. So no, but you're right in she will win Wimbledon someday too.
Disagree strongly. I think that loss at Wimbledon has been a godsend and taught her lessons. Winning Wimbledon potentially could have damaged her long-term. Her team were brilliant keeping her away from news and social media and putting her in a bubble.
I love her clarity, elegance and humbleness in her responses. Super clutch on the tennis court and super elegant off. We just got ourselves a superstar and the next icon in the making. She can do great things for the sports, and of course, for her tennis career.
The sensational teens in the final really made women tennis great again. Emma's composer is off the chart at critical moments for her age. Can't wait to see the new generation perform in grandslams next year.

Utterly unique achievement that we'd be lucky to see only once in a lifetime! One for the Ages. 1st Unseeded Qualifier, either male or female, to EVER win a Grand Slam Final. 10 matches, 20 consecutive sets, no tiebreaks. Last teenage person to not drop a set at US Open was Serena Williams. She's the best of British: young, multicultural and supremely talented! I can't wait to see what she does next. After her sad retirement at Wimbledon a few weeks ago, it shows her phenomenal mental fortitude to bounce back. Emma & her opponent, Ms. Leylah Fernandez, have bright bright futures ahead of them in their sport!
Incredible that she went an entire US OPEN w/o losing a set. Impressive and deserving to see her walk away as champ. Leylah will be back and Emma will be ready for another!⭐️⭐️
Leylah was made to look fairly average against Emma, which just goes to show how amazing Emma is playing right now as Leylah is a very talented player in her own right.
20 straight sets? That is amazing. It certainly helped that she practically dominated all her matches to the title. Hope she makes the wise decision to take some time off- maybe 1 or 2 weeks- to process this. This is quite astonishing.
Maybe not, she is a tennis player, highly trained, they just think of the next game. To allow stardom to distract you is unprofessional and impractical. These questions in the press conference really mean nothing, she must not take any of it seriously.
Emma's story must be the most remarkable of all sporting victories. From schoolgirl to turning pro before Wimbledon to US Open Champion in three months! Emma has only played in four tournaments in her life, two of the Grand Slams......and she still only 18.
Along with an exceptional game...she has incredible mental strength! She was the better player on the court today, she's had an exceptional run but I don't at all think it's a fluke. And IMO she still has a lot to learn in tennis and can become even better, much better.
Tennis is a hard sport and the Tennis life can be a hard grind. Don't knock others until you've walked in their shoes. Most of your post is untrue anyway. Tennis players come from all walks of life. It takes more staying on top than getting there. So pressure affects every tennis player differently. Of course, tennis players are going to change with the different pressures & time. But pressure & time create diamonds. We all change in life its perfectly natural and unavoidable.

Haven´t met an 18 year old with such a krispy clean line of tought like this lady, and that translates to that krispy clean brand of tennis that she plays. If you put attention to the way she describes her decisions on court when facing breakpoints or having those matchpoints you can see how concious she is with whats happening on the court. The latin espn commentator said, at match point: "on important moments, she has allways trow the slice serve to the T" and then he was just ecstatic with the sudden change when she tres that flat bomb into the open box. This young lady has, more than anything an attribute that is evident in other young people who excel at a young age and that is a maturity beyond their years, both mentally and physically.

The poise, grace, maturity is amazing to see at only 18. Speaks volumes about her upbringing too. Amazing talent and the future looks bright. If only we could get more breakout stars on the ATP.
The parents are to be commended...
There are breakout men but the competition is too stiff. There hasn’t been a big three equivalent in women’s tennis for a long time now and with it only being two sets to win, no wonder there are so many first time winners. Easy to put out someone on a bad day but much harder in men’s tennis to do the same.

Rafa is one of the 3 best tennis players in his professional era. It is unfair to expect Emma to achieve what Rafa did. Perhaps Emma can achieve that in the future but I hope the crazy media in London won't put that kind of pressure onto this young and beautiful rising tennis star.
@rafa Goat
Among the big 3, Rafa is my favorite. Rafa is a near-perfect representation of sportsmanship.
@rafa Goat Did Rafa get straight A's in his A levels? Can Rafa race a go cart to an extremely high standard. Has Rafa beaten one of the best e-sports player at F1 2020? Can Rafa do ballet? Tennis is a hard sport and the Tennis life can be a hard grind. Don't knock others until you've walked in their shoes. Most of your post is untrue anyway. Tennis players come from all walks of life. It takes more staying on top than getting there. So pressure affects every tennis player differently. Of course, tennis players are going to change with the different pressures & time. But pressure & time create diamonds. We all change in life its perfectly natural and unavoidable.
