For a lot of us riders, we have been doing it since we were kids. Starting with bicycles we made the transition to motorized bicycles with Briggs & Stratton powered mini-bikes. From that we moved to the Honda 50cc bikes then up to the YZ80 and YZ125. Riders like me have a lifetime of dropping and picking up bikes. You had to squeeze that into a much shorter time frame. 😄
    Cheers!

I remember riding my electric bicycle to college for the first time and over a couple of terms. I dropped the bike so many times and had to deal with so much BS, but thinking back on it those times were pretty fun. I haven't gotten on a bicycle in a few years and much less a real motorcycle but dropping a bike is always going to be part of learning.

I’ve had a couple few drops but thank goodness that there was no video proof, but I have one good story. A friend borrowed a bike, the owner said he had one rule, “Always look that the kickstand when getting off the bike”.
We rode about 200 miles and when I got home, I pulled up to my storage shed and promptly fell over because I did not look down to verify the kickstand stayed down. I as I was falling, I thought it that one rule!😊

I’ve watched your travels for mostly your whole time, you are just so down to earth, I mean literally (all the falls, oh my, like there’s a magnet!) I’ve dropped a few times myself, and I’m tall! I’ve forgotten kickstand, slippped on sand, forgotten to remove my front disk brake lock, or been off camber and didn’t position myself before slowing to a stop, or been to indecisive on which direction to go in a parking lot! I just get a kick outta your goofy serious, and he way you laugh at yourself with others, but most of all, how you get back on, keep going! I just smiled, laughed out loud, and enjoyed your production! I love your “Voice” as Brad cooper said to Lady Gaga, you’ve gotta have a voice, something to say, and you do! Thanks so much! My Neice lives down Atlanta way and said she was looking into biking, reminds spot in of you, I sent her your you tube, not sure if she hit you up or not…. Lastly, I heard Shadetree say, kinda in the background on one of your visits to Florida, you’re from the Micronesian Islands? Is this true? My Brother and his Family moved there over 20 years ago, Pohnpei, I thought, wow, small world! I regularly visit Atlanta as my folks and two sisters as well as various Neice and Nephews, hope to catch up to you one day! Thanks Again!

Thanks for sharing Doodle. It takes class and humility to grow while riding and you have both Little Lady.
You ride long enough and you'll put a bike down, just pray it's slow speed. You're right, getting aggressive with cars is the key to a short life. Defensive driving and the law requires turning into the closest lane or stating in your lane. I've had many selfish morons "merge" into my lane on turns so I've just learned to slow down and let them wreck themselves. Our own internal voice beats us up more than anyone yelling at us when we realize we've screwed up. SO JUST LET THEM! and if they are so self righteous they'll never see themselves at fault so why waste the energy.
    You are in my prayers

Please don't revbomb. I hate that this response is so common. And I've seen too many people crash because they decided to revbomb instead of applying the brakes. I would not even prioritize the horn over a maneuver that avoids the vehicle altogether.

    • @langhamp8912
      @langhamp8912 Год назад +3

I hate rev bombing with a passion but it seems so ingrained now. It's also extremely dangerous, like using a horn, because twisting the throttle open all the way is usually the opposite of what you need to do. Most people, including me, cannot fully open a throttle while at the same time braking.
I don't think accelerating away from danger works in most situation. Usually accelerating just turns a bad situation worse as you put more energy into the eventual crash. An irritating crash at 20 mph turns into a deadly crash at 40 mph.

I was always glad I learned to ride on Honda trail 50s and 70s on the dirt as a kid, moving up to 125 and 250 dirt bikes way before I ever road a road bike. It helped that falling hurts less when you're young, the bikes are cheaper and easier to fix, and you just learn that if your in the dirt you're gonna fall or drop your bike. Good way to start and stay humble. Started street riding on an 84 Honda 650 Nighthawk, finished out 35 years later on a Honda ST1300. Thanks to all my dirt drop practice only dropped the Night hawk once when I put the kickstand down in a wet lawn when I was going to wash it and the ST1300 once trying to make an ill advised u turn on a gravel/dirt road at Great Basin National Park which resulted in a two hour adventure unpacking all my travel bags and camping gear, learning to pick up a big bike by myself on an uneven slippery surface in the middle of nowhere and reloading it all again just in time to realize the bike was still pointed in the wrong direction. Nothing to do but laugh at yourself sometime.

yeah man you're right. started riding in September and as the winter months get on and I'm increasingly the only biker it feels more and more like I'm completely invisible. this past week alone has been WILD with how much I've had to slow down and try to stay far away from other cars. people will just not see you in an intersection say if they're turning right and you have the green and you're passing the intersection even with a loud bike they just think no one is there and jump right tf out. I can see how adrenaline junkies are dying left and right on motorcycles you really have to be the one to make sure you are safe no one else is helping even remotely it's not like being in a car with all of the safety regulations

I had my first accident on a motorcycle on the 2nd of Jan this year. After 10 years of riding without incident. Old lady skipped an intersection and hit me from the side. My bright red Panigale with white helmet and daytime running lights was not enough for her to see me. I lost half my left foot from the car crushing it but was lucky to keep the leg, ankle and my life. Motorcycle accidents are no joke, the trauma I induced on my family was enough for me to decide to stop riding on the road. Once I can walk again and rebuild my life il stick to track days only from here. Love motorcycles but can’t deal with the trauma it causes my family. Always dress for the crash ATGOT and remember to count your blessings every day, no matter how small they may be.

It’s good when you can look back on your mistakes, identify what you did wrong and learn from it. Love the video

This was a riot. It’s amazing how many defective bikes there are, that fail to hold themselves upright when you let go, or leave the side stand disengaged, or stop with the front wheel turned, or…. If they were horses, I’m pretty sure they would shake their heads and head back to the stables. I’m so glad there were fewer cameras around when I was starting out! Looking forward to videos about your new bike!

Seeing that truck almost hit you would have been stressing for you both.
One of my favourite things about your channel is how you do not give up. I know dropping the bike in any situation is stressing (and yes I have dropped mine). But the way you get up and remain optomistic is wonderful (how many people have given up riding after falling off/over just once).
I can see why you went the Triumph. I recently rode the Tiger 900 Rally Pro and was impressed with its all round capabilities.

Great video! We ALL drop our bikes. LOL - my first drop was on a huge Royal Star Venture... couldn't lift it.. then I saw this tiny lady lift a big Harley properly. The trick is to inch your feet back inch by inch, so your legs push the bike, and not your back.

Great video Doodle. Love you showed all of your drops. As everyone who rides has more than their fair share of them. Especially when riding something completely new to them.

Great but scary video, Doodle. The white truck driver could not be more wrong. That was crazy. Everyone who rides has dropped bikes. One thing I would say is, if you can grab the front brake handle to freeze the front tire, it gets easier to bring the bike up. That Panamerican definitely gave you an all over body workout the days you rode it. The stock Triumph engine bars are disappointing. They seem to be just trim pieces. I saw another rider on RUclips who dropped his Triumph, at four mph, into a tree limb, across a muddy road, and the bars bent in and failed to protect the hoses. I am glad to see you are installing better bars. It's a crazy world out there on the highways. I agree with you about, just let them go. All the crazy, impatient people can just move on past. They'll find the accident they are looking for, without you being in it. Stay safe, Doodle.

What gets me is that you see people drop bikes, but rarely does the footage ever actually express how HEAVY motorcycles actually are. Most people out there would not be able to lift a 400 pound bike unless they worked out.

Sad to say that almost every time we had issues, they were with pickups. The drivers must be making up for some shortcomings. Little feet, perhaps? Lol.😢

    Hey, fellow tiger rider!
I’ve recently made the switch from a street triple to a Tiger 900 rally pro. I like it!
Mine has also other guards too. I love it…

I just dropped my Africa Twin last week, just around in the neighborhood. Picking it up is a skill I need to practice. Glad I had upper and lower bars on it.

You are very brave and humble to share your drops as all riders know we have dropped our bikes at some stage. But geez you have dropped your bikes a lot 😳
