Styling? I hear some people giving this car a big thumbs-down for terrible style and design. I really LOVE the style of the car's exterior, and its interior design seems to be very on-point for my needs. As they say about such things - 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'

This channel just keeps getting better! Great job again folks. As for the sedan, I think it is sorta growing on me. I would definitely take this over a Model 3 and that's not even choice to me. I've been in a few Tesla's now and I do not like their interiors or lack thereof, their minimalistic design aka we are too cheap too put buttons in our cars. Model 3 is extremely poorly built and even the newest ones dont impress ne. I seen this design originally and laughed, but, and this is a testament to how muck I dislike the Model 3, even though I'm not a huge fan of the Ioniq design, at least it has character and I would gladly have it in my driveway over a Model 3. The interior is on another level from the Model 3 and that is what you see 99% of time, and by that alone it wins. There is also something else to consider: Tesla service is abysmal especially here in Canada. Hyundai may not be the pinnacle service either but they are far better at taking care of their customers than Tesla. I base this on friends and family with Tesla and Hyundai as I watch closely while choosing our first EV.

Its sad that we over emphasis design (style) rather than engineering. Thanks for this review it really helps. I would like to hear about reliability and life expectancy. Can this vehicle be disabled remotely by others? This is something we should think about, when it may become necessary to control the movement of people, it would be easily done. This is my fear of buying an EVs or really any new car, I love my 2018 GTI thanks to you guys. Perhaps people should not be buying SUVs and expect to drive on a freeway unimpeded.

A few folks may need them, but most of the time when I see an SUV on the road there is ONLY the driver in it! Personally I think it is a ploy by the vehicle manufacturers to make more money. Also, hate to be a spoil sport but I'm tired of reviewers going whoo whoo when accelerating in BEVs. The bulk of them driven on the roads rarely tap into the power because it lowers range.
I'm not totally convinced on the styling of the car. I also prefer the Prius, if you have to do two screens. Adding more dimension by separating the console functions with the dash display makes for better clarity and recognition.

I’ve got a serious question. Why are Canadian EV drivers getting ripped off by the charging networks? They price for energy delivered in kw/h in the USA but here we get charged for the time on the plug not the energy delivered. So there’s no incentive for these companies to give the fast charging of 350 kw. Should there be regulations for these charging networks?

I'm genuinely confused by the "consumers don't want to buy sedans" narrative. Some of the best selling cars today are still sedans. 10-15 years ago when the split of crossovers to sedans was inverse of what it is now, was the narrative "consumers don't want to buy SUVs" ? If so, I really don't remember that being the case. It's not that no consumer wants to buy a sedan, it's just that it's no longer the majority of consumers. So why are we continuing to speak about the breakdown of sales this way? Why are we trying to talk sedans out of existence? It feels like it's a talking point given to auto journalists by automakers to get customers into vehicles that make the automakers more money.

I test drove one this week and although it drives extremely well, I just wasn’t attracted to the way it looks. It seems somewhat over styled and I wonder how well it will age. It is also very long and I wish it was a little more compact to make it easier to park and fit into a garage. The crazy rear leg room is totally unnecessary and they could have easily trimmed 6 inches off the length. The Ioniq 5 seems to best this both in looks and practicality while being cheaper. Not sure how successful this will be in taking sales from the model 3 unless someone just wants something different since there are so many M3s on the roads. I really wanted to like this more!

When your family consists of giants (which mine does) it's VERY nice with the legroom 😁

I saw and test drove this car a couple of weeks ago. It's actually better looking than I thought. It's a hard choice between this and the ioniq 5. I do believe pricing it the same as the 5 was a bad idea though. People right now want SUVs. The only reason why they would get a sedan is because it's cheaper in general. No one is going to buy this if they could just get the ioniq 5 for the same price. This car should be around $6K less or so from the ioniq 5 so that people would really think if they need an SUV or not.

The solution to the instrument panel position is a heads up display. My RAV4 has one. Thought it was a gimmick when it came with the package, but I find the instrument cluster cluttered with lots of stuff I don’t need to drive. The HUD shows speed, cruise control setting, RPM (not very detailed) and when a turn is coming up when the navigation is being used. Almost never need to look at the full cluster.

The wait times for hybrids are so long i decided to lease a 2023 Rogue for a couple years until the market gets back to normal. I just hope car manufacturers don’t purposefully starve inventory to keep up demand. You two are my favourite car review channel, keep up the great work

When you consider a 1-3 thousand you'll spend on gas per year, spend like 20k less on the car, and given that electricity isn't free, seeing that no EV or PHEV will actually save money, not for now at least, don't sweat having chosen one last hurrah for a gas car. Plus the fact that the Rogue does best among all gas equivalents. So yeah, not a bad choice at all.

@Antiorganizer I spend around 250$ a year on charging my ev so I'm saving a shit ton compared to my old car

@@Slayyyter_bitxh A RAV4 Prime uses about 36 kWh per 100 miles. If one drives 10k miles per year, that's 3600 kWh. If 1 kWh costs 21 cents, then 3600 kWh costs about $750.
A RAV4 regular uses about 30 miles per gallon. 10k driving uses about 333 gallons.
      1 gallon costs about $3.60.
So that's $1,200 of gasoline per year.
Thus, the Prime saves about $450 per year.
If the Prime in reality costs $15k more to obtain, then it would take 33 years to break even.
I think the problems is that many EV owners have enough disposable income to not really care about the details, and want to feel really good about their choice and don't really actually realize what it actually costs.
They just figure, "meh I'm not seeing the electric bill change a heck of a whole lot, so, meh, probably 250 per year give or take". And that's just a wild guess and not a correct one at that.
When doing the real actual math on it, not one single EV or hybrid or plugin hybrid will actually "save" money, when their markup is that high.
Now, it *is* possible to come out ahead, when driving something non-SUV and something frugal like a Corolla hybrid or Prius or Ioniq 4 (not 5) *AND* if driving a *LOT*.
But for the regular schmo doing normal basic driving, forget it. The premium is not cost advantageous.
I've done this math countless of times.

@Antiorganizer I drive around 13k miles a year in my kona ev and it costs me 7.92$ to recharge which I did about 4 times a month meaning I paid 380$ last year to fuel my car compared to my partners 19mpg car that costs 80$ every fill up which was around three times a month and over last year cost me around 2,700$ so it's saved a lot of money

    • @Antiorganizer

@@Slayyyter_bitxh A Kona EV uses about 27 kWh per 100 miles.
13k miles would use 3,510 kWh.
At 21 cents per kWh, that's $737.10 per year.
A different vehicle, a gasoline one, that has a fuel economy of 19 mpg, would use 684 gallons of fuel per year. At $3.60 per gallon that would be $2,463 per year.
The Kona costs $1,726 less for energy use per year.
If the Kona EV costs $10k more to purchase, then it would take 5 3/4 years to break even on cost.
I don't know what car you're comparing to, but that's obviously apples and oranges.
I know that for less money, one can have a much nicer SUV, which is bigger, with nicer features like a panoramic sunroof, that does 30 mpg. The Rogue SV delivers that.
At 30 mpg, the savings aren't $1,726, but about $833 per year.
If the Kona EV costs, say $8k more, then it would take close to 10 years of driving to break even.
I tell you, people that take the plunge on these expensive EVs and plug in hybrids, they don't really actually to the math. They assume they made the smartest choice.
Sure it does drive nicer. I might be quicker to accelerate. Better throttle resonse.
But an actual money saver, they're not!
I'd love to drive an EV too, but the extra cost of it, takes away from its attractiveness.
Some time will need to go by before an EV becomes the cheaper option. Right now, it just is not.

Hopefully Hyundai will have the similar acceptance of it’s ‘look, as the Ionic 5. It certainly is a daring design decision. I like it now, but I’m not so sure it will age gracefully. Thanks
