Hi JetPens Team! My question - what's the point of making videos of finding differences? It seems pointless to me. Can you instead suggest school supplies for students class 6-8?
I would love to see a video like this comparing lead. With pencils, the difference between price brackets is much more immediately obvious than for leads
Stephanie in the beginning dying bcuz she realizes all the money and time she has spent on stationery was pointless cuz she cant tell the difference between pencils 😂😂
It is really interesting to see how Martin works with the pencils. He feels them up, listens to them, rolls them in his palms, and touches them...he does a little writing, but not a lot. Martin seems to have fairly little contact with the paper he is writing on. His way of assessing a pencil is very different from Stephanie's. You can see Stephanie writing on the paper, feeling the paper, writing some more, feeling the paper some more. Her approach seems more like an assessment of how each pencil writes. Martin remembers his high school days, when he couldn't afford quality writing instruments. So he feels comfortable identifying a pencil he thinks is cheap. Stephanie works hard trying to identify the pencils in this test. I think both Martin and Stephanie bring up very interesting characteristics of each pencil. I thank both of them, with much gratitude. I'm on the older side and have little experience with mechanical pencils. In fact, I'm nearing retirement. Perhaps I should buy a few different mechanical pencils and require myself to use them for a year and really work with them.
Stephanie is so sweet in these videos! I love how much she knows these products. She’s incredible! Martin is so great to watch too! These videos are so much fun to watch!
Feeling kinda proud of myself who actually distinguished my kuru toga from my bic and pentel energize in the Dark.....I could ace this test, and yeah, I am obssessed with mechanical pencils
JETPEN has strenuous employee testing. Having to identify pens and pencil types blindfolded, paper types by smell, ink by touch I feel for your ninja like training.
Tough test! Stephanie should definitely NOT go into hiding, she has way too much camera presence and fun. Howdy Martin, I'd say you did quite well *esp* for a Newbie. My only complaint is that neither Merriam or Josh were in front of the camera today! Bravo and Cheers, folks!:D
I would like this to be a neverending series. Do all similar pens specifying but like ballpoint, gel, roller, fountain. Do erasers by rubber, plastic, natural. Washi tapes. Paper. Everything!! Please.
I love my Kura Toga Advance and use it a ton, but I think the standard Kura Toga would have been enough to throw me off. Pencils have got to be one of the most difficult to do this with, with pens at least you can try to figure out something from the ink differences.
The DelGuard and Kuru Toga are two of my fave mechanical pencils (and used Bics all through high school lol). I could probably tell them apart but they feel pretty similar… Were the leads different? The DelGuard and Kuru Toga leads also feel kinda different.
Seems like the categories should be “higher quality” versus “normal quality” haha I don’t know that “good” and “bad” since all the pencils are good depending on your budget :)
no, not surprised at all lol. That's how we all end up getting points shaved off what would've been a perfect score on the SAT ;_; it's ok tho, we still love you
Love Stephanie adding the flair to this video! These results are helpful, too. Seems like either of the first two pencils would be great for most pencil users. Is the lead quality about the same across the board?
It's pretty easy to tell the tactile differences between a Zebra Delguard and an Uni Kuru Toga if one owns both. The tip shape is the easiest. Uni Kuru Togas have retractable lead guide while the Delguard's is stationary. The Kuru Toga also feels more springy.
Did they have the same lead in each pencil? The way each pencil functions plays a part in the experience, but then so does the quality and softness or hardness of the lead.
Did all the pencils have the same lead in them? It’s my experience that once you move beyond the Bic garbage that the pencil lead has more to do with the writing feel than the pencil.
First when she guess the Uni ball One when her first thought was the Sarasa Mark On and ended up being the First thought. Now, thought of the Kuru Togs over her first thought of the DelGuard and ended up being the first thought. Wow… maybe it’s better to stick with the first option
Stephanie was right when she was using the K and said K. If course when she said Bic too. We still come to you for writing instruments, Stephanie. Don't doubt yourself, you are an expert.
Even if you don't trust yourself, Stephanie, we still do!!! You guessed correctly initially for all 3, so I'm going to blindfolded, expert Stephanie for my stationary question🫶🏼
I would have gotten the Bic immediately. but ... I come from a land of RPGs and Cons and "cheap bulk pencil that makes lines" That said, I could not have told you which of the other two was which, I recognize the brands, but wouldn't be able to recall them without prompting. I probably would have identified that one of them rotated the lead, and MAYBE that they had protections built into the needle point. but I struggle to tell the difference between grips as it is (and I shouldn't! I get hand cramps, there's probably a simple solution out there I just don't understand!) Was I surprised by the "Expert"'s results? not... really? the expertise is not in "blindfolded writing implement identification" and frankly I'm not sure that would be a particularly useful expertise outside of this one specific context. I do, however, like this format. I think you get some interesting insight into the actual FEEL of the tool, rather than a read through, or occassional explanation, of bullet points on the package. In the future, I would love to see a line up of 5 pencils, from cheapest/simplest to priciest/most "advanced" and see 3 reviewers instead of 2. then, and this is where it's labor intensive, you edit for the experience each has with the pencil "Oh this writes so smoothly... this... this must be a rotating tip right? it feels sharp on ever stroke, and I didn't think the tip would be so sturdy but even if I vary pressure the lead doesn't feel in danger of breaking", "okay... I have no idea what this grip is... I don't think I'm going to like it, but I guess I should write for a few minutes to give it a proper try *2 minutes later* Okay, you know, I think I was wrong. I felt like the ribbing was going to make it uncomfortable, but it does actually make my grip on the pencil feel more stable without me having to use much pressure. it's not how I usually write but maybe I should be giving this a shot". Stuff like that. Anyway, Comment is too long, sorry! BYE!
If not even the professional can identify the characteristics, it means it is irrelevant to a common consumer. I'll stick with my simple and cheap stuff. 😅😅😅
Stephanie, don't feel bad, Covid culture effects have put many of us relearning to trust our instincts as we re-emerge into it. It's far more impressive you knew right off than it is unimpressive you doubted yourself. It's IMPORTANT to second guess SOME, don't get discouraged by this, instead take heart and note that you DID know. Mind you, that'll improve your instincts, which can be uncomfortable to have in this society. More videos, less shame/hiding! 💜
you are a noob if you cannot tell the difference between the del guard and a kurutoga as kurutoga has rubberized ring near the grip and del guard has a very distinct tip which cannot be mistaken with a kurutoga.
I haven't tried those fancy pencils because they aren't available in my country but I have tried some others around the same quality. I can tell you guys that every single time I came back to my trusty bic with a 0.7 mm B lead. It's the best for my handwriting, it's lightweight, doesn't clog or jam and it comes in a lot of different fun colors 😊
Do you think you could've guessed these mechanical pencils? Like this video if you want to see parts 3 & 4!

I hope Josh will come sooner or later… Miriam included too! (Josh haven’t been in a video for a long time)
@@FionaSeah I agree. And... oops ... with sincere apologies to Miriam for misspelling her name! Yikes. Thanks for the correction. :D
I would like this to be a neverending series. Do all similar pens specifying but like ballpoint, gel, roller, fountain. Do erasers by rubber, plastic, natural. Washi tapes. Paper. Everything!! Please.
Kudos for BRAVERY, Stephanie!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

That's true! We did keep the original leads in the pencils so they were different.
Seems like the categories should be “higher quality” versus “normal quality” haha I don’t know that “good” and “bad” since all the pencils are good depending on your budget :)
Stephanie: My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
no, not surprised at all lol. That's how we all end up getting points shaved off what would've been a perfect score on the SAT ;_; it's ok tho, we still love you
I love the guy at the 1st one being like "yep. That's a pencil."
You got me wanting a Kuru Toga
We need more Martin in future videos too!
12:19 FELT LMAOOOOOOOOOO
That was awesome. Actually when you are an expert, you have more doubts. This video just proved that ❤
Stephanie always cracks me up 😂😂
yay, more Martin!
Love Stephanie adding the flair to this video! These results are helpful, too. Seems like either of the first two pencils would be great for most pencil users. Is the lead quality about the same across the board?
Yes, we like both leads, but if there is a lead you prefer, you can always swap it in!
As a consolation prize for Stephanie, I think JetPens should send her to the Stationery Fest in Brooklyn in August!
“His feels like not that.”. Good save, Stephanie 😂😂😂😂😂
This is so good, such a fantastic video ☺☺☺
Pressure !!! All of us know the answer and then we second guess ??? You're not a robot - definitely still a JetPens Expert ☝☝☝
Sending hugs to our beloved Stephanie. Don't worry about it, we will still love you 🫠
It was a good run, give her a good severance package....
Are all of these using the same lead? I feel like half the differences might be due to the quality of the lead, no?
That's true, we kept the original leads in the pencil so they were different.
Did they have the same lead in each pencil? The way each pencil functions plays a part in the experience, but then so does the quality and softness or hardness of the lead.
Good point! We used the lead that the pencil came with so they were not the same.
I ❤ ‘your girl, Stephanie’ 😊
Did all the pencils have the same lead in them? It’s my experience that once you move beyond the Bic garbage that the pencil lead has more to do with the writing feel than the pencil.
Always trust the first instinct *nods nods*
I want to set up a home version of this!! Everyone knows I'm nuts about my pens and pencils!!
Martin can do more on camera work and maybe alternate with our favorite josh someday.😊
We still love you, Stephanie.
Stephanie went on a whole journey here, i'm so invested, I think she needs hero redemption arc next!
love this 😊
First when she guess the Uni ball One when her first thought was the Sarasa Mark On and ended up being the First thought. Now, thought of the Kuru Togs over her first thought of the DelGuard and ended up being the first thought. Wow… maybe it’s better to stick with the first option
The take.a.way for the expert: trust your gut! You know this! You are the exper!!! ❤ For the new bie, you are more Experienced than you think 😊

Quite easy tho, Delguard has way more inward movement when you pushed the cone.
This series is so fun! But I feel Stephanie’s pain.

both stephanine and martin:.......you handed me a freaking bic
Videographer san ? 😄

Threw in a ringer for #3. I really hate those Bics 🤢
I am quite good at blind pencil recognition but mechanical pencils? Forget about it.
