  • Gala Fort Tarbela | Hindu Shahi Gala Fort | Forts of Pakistan | Unexplored forts in Pakistan
Pakistan has a rich history of forts, many of which have stood for centuries and played significant roles in various historical events. One of them is Gala fort situated on the banks of River Indus near the town of Ghazi.
This fort was probably built by Hindu Shahi dynasty in 8th century AD.
The Hindu Shahi dynasty was a medieval Indian dynasty that ruled parts of present-day Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northern India from approximately the 7th century to the 11th century CE. The dynasty is also known as the Kabul Shahi dynasty because their capital was located in Kabul, present-day Afghanistan. They were predominantly Hindu rulers, although there were periods of Buddhist influence as well.
The Hindu Shahi dynasty is believed to have been established around the 7th century CE by Kallar, who is considered the founder of the dynasty. However, the dynasty reached its zenith under the leadership of Jayapala and his successors. Jayapala is often regarded as one of the most notable rulers of the Hindu Shahi dynasty. He extended the empire's territories and fought numerous battles against the expanding Ghaznavid Empire.
One of the most significant events in the history of the Hindu Shahi dynasty was the Battle of Peshawar in 1001 CE, where Mahmud of Ghazni defeated the Shahi ruler Anandapala. This marked the beginning of the decline of the Hindu Shahi dynasty. Subsequent invasions by Mahmud of Ghazni weakened the dynasty, and by the early 11th century, their rule had effectively ended.
The Hindu Shahi dynasty left behind a legacy of art, architecture, and cultural influence in the regions they ruled. Their architectural contributions include various temples and fortifications, some of which still stand today as examples of their craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Despite their eventual decline and absorption into the Ghaznavid Empire, the Hindu Shahi dynasty played a significant role in shaping the history and culture of the Indian subcontinent.
