I had this on pre-order at the same price (about £35) and then cancelled, as I wasn't too sure if it would really be all that much better than the 88 Films version (which you can buy for less than half the cost). Also, just with you saying about getting more Blue Underground titles, today I ordered their 3-disc limited edition of "Dead & Buried" (cover B), which is still available! It's an absolute beauty of a set that includes 4K, Blu-ray, cd soundtrack, and a gorgeous lenticular cover! I ordered from WOWHD.
Millennium Actress is probably Kon's most underrated film but its still a masterpiece. I think its probably the only movie to actually get an emotional response out of me with the "its not about the destination, its about the journey" cliche
On Barb Wire 'You could see absolutely everything' - You are damn right there! 😂I love Barb, I remember the London Double Deckers in 1996 - 'Don't call me babe!' on the side of the bus! Love it
Thank you for letting me know about the release of "Fear City" (I had no idea it had come out in Blu-ray recently). I just went ahead and purchase it. This film, plus the fact that Vinegar Syndrome will be releasing Ferrara's Dangerous Game pretty soon, makes it a great year for Abel's films.
Noting your comments about Blue Underground, I have a few 4Ks from them; Fulci's Zombie, New York Ripper, Maniac and Daughters of Darkness. They are all superb releases with great restorations. Zombie is a particular standout.
Great pick ups matey, I need to grab Fear City myself. Love Blue Underground, their 4Ks are next level, need to grab The Bloody Judge. Cheers for the closer look ❤
Thanks for the recommendations Elliot. Really looking forward to get Fear city and especially Happy End which sounds like a lost.gem. Recently i did enjoy Street Law from 88 films and Goodbye and Amen from Radiance Thanks and keep enjouing movies 👍
Hey Elliot! Love your videos. Was wondering-what’s your viewing setup like? I’ve been eyeing an OLED tv because I’ve read it’s the only way to truly appreciate 4K/HDR discs. Would love to know what you watch your movies on. Thanks!
Actually, Happy End is not part of Czech New Wave. Yes, movie is from that period (sixties) but it was directed by Oldřich Lipský who begun his career in fifties (so not the FAMU - film school - graduate - as Milos Forman, Vera Chytilová, Jiri Menzel, Jan Nemec and other Czech New Wave directors). And: most important figure is screenwriter Milos Macourek who written or co-written seminal parody, pastiche or metafiction movies which plays with medium and genre and storytelling conventions such as Who Wants to Kill Jessie?, Rumburak, How About a Plate of Spinach? or I Killed Einstein, Gentlemen. Sadly, here in Czechia we can´t buy Happy End on Blu-ray (only import it from Second Run) ´cause National Film Archive which holds the right won´t release BD´s and DVD´s anymore. (Same with folk-horor-exploitation festival picture Svetlonoc from Slovakia which was just announced from Arrow company.)
I don’t recall being sickened by “Green Room”. But “Possessor” on the other hand … Good Lord!!! I assume the Second Sight version is the same cut as Well Go USA’s “Possessor: Uncut”. That fire poker stuff didn’t bother you?!
I wouldn't''t personally recommend 101's release of Fear City. The image is stretched and the gamma levels are incorrect. Apparently they are aware of the issue and are looking into it.
I can't recommend Blue Underground enough. They do such good work with thier 4k releases. I bought Zombie and House by the Cemetery when they came out and they impressed me so much that I've purchased every one of thier 4k releases. Zombie especially is great. The Maniac Cop sequels, Vigilante and Daughters of Darkness spring to mind aswell But all in all, if it says Blue Underground on the cover, you won't be disappointed.
Green Room and Possessor - two of the most disturbing films I’ve seen in the last 10 years! 😂 Top, top films though I might add! 👌 Thanks for the review!
The Second Sight 4K of Green Room looks fucking phenomenal and features an awesome new commentary with the outstanding Prince Jackson and Reyna Cervantes! It’s such a treat!
Fear City sounds like fun, just watched the trailer after watching your video Elliot and I’m gonna give it a shot. I’m Always keen to add to my 101Films black label collection 🙂👍
I too had a strong visceral reaction to Green Room at the cinema - when the gore started to ramp up (you know the bit), I felt so nauseous that I passed out 😂 I’ve revisited a few times from the safety of home since then, and I adore the film - got that Second Sight LE 4K on the shelf waiting to be cracked open!
Streaming in 4k (e.g. Poor Things) doesn't mean blu ray 4k equivalent...in fact, nothing like it. Just look at the bitrates for example. In my experience, 4k streaming in general doesn't even match 1080p blu ray for quality.
Eh, I find 4K streaming just fine for some movies. It looks pretty nice. The bitrate is high if you stream it from the right source. Compression formats make a big difference and things have gotten pretty great.
Did you check the UK Blu-ray for "Poor Things" for the audio languages already? On the back, only English is listed, but since the US version has several language options in the menu, I wonder if it's the same disc and German dub available. Thanks
Anatomy of a Fall is the worst film I've seen in theaters, and the only one I fell asleep during, ever! It's made very professionally and is very realistic, but that's not why I go to the movies, when what they showed can bore the hell out of me on C-SPAN any day, or irritate me like any of the 100s of similar fights my parents had... 😂
Night of the Blood Monster 4K UHD is currently 40% off here - amzn.to/3vy8V4z

@@DeanKryton Thanks for that. Just followed suit.
Green Room is such a great movie and I miss Anton Yelchin every day.
Indeed. A talent gone far too soon.
Every day?

He was really good in Jim Jarmusch's "Only Lovers Left Alive".

Haha! I’m glad you’re a Barb Wire enjoyer too!
“Happy End” has been on my watchlist for years.
I'd had it on mine for a long time too. The new blu-ray is definitely one to get if it's your sort of thing!
Ohhh Dang! Thanks for reminding me about Fear City! Gotta see if I can still get that? Great haul Elliot!
It should still be readily available. Thanks for watching Ken!

Love love loved the Green Room second sight release:)
A couple of Blue Underground 4K release I would recommend to you that I enjoy are, Dead & Buried, and The Final Countdown.
Thnaks, Mark, I'll have to check those ones out next!
Blue Underground aka Blue Undies rule. Their 4K of New York Ripper is a stunner, as is Dead and Buried.

Excellent vid Elliot, I need to pick up those Second Sight editions 😊
Thanks for watching, Marty! Second Sight always put together a great edition.
Green Room is a truly brilliant and grimy film. Fear City is a hidden gem and has one of the most eclectic cast you can imagine.
Thanks for the recommendations Elliot.
Really looking forward to get Fear city and especially Happy End which sounds like a lost.gem.

Fear City is great! Kino Lorber is putting out Bad Lieutenant on 4K!
I saw that mentioned the other day! I’ll have to get that Kino 4K for sure

Marginally disappointed that you didn't mention that Barb Wire is a remake of Casablanca with Pam playing the Bogart role. Fun film, though.

The fire poker scene is the first thing that came to my mind too! 😵💫
At last I can trade in my Barb Wire DVD....don't call me Babe..
what year was green room released?
Im sorry if you're asked this question a lot, but can you tell us what Television you use to watch your 4k films? Thanks!
Elliott mentioned this in the comments on a recent video. From memory it was a 65" LG model (which is now out of production).

Is fear city region locked?
i need to make more money so i can afford this habbit
I remember reading that a movie exec for Harriet suggested Julia Robert’s play the lead role. Glad that did not happen

Barb Wire is a lot of fun! Saw it in the theater!
I don't know much about poor things. Can I watch it with my wife and kids?
Could be an awkward watch with the whole family.
At least as a teenager I would have cringed hard if I had watched the film with my family
I wouldn’t watch it with kids around. It features a lot of sex, strong language, and some graphic scenes of surgery/autopsy
