@@mimouneh7055 As someone who started with WinForms I can tell you it is a lot more easier to program than webforms. I think its a good way for someone new to programming to get started. The speed with which you can get a fairly decent app developed also makes it quite fun. Unfortunately most companies seem to want web developers (but hey, it pays the bills, and its still software development with its own different rewards).

Part of WPF's demise was that the developers at Microsoft gave it too much ability to do stuff beyond UI, letting people do anything imaginable with it, building code monstrosities that were reviled by developers inheriting that code. I heard stories of developers quitting or not taking a job because it involved working with XAML. If Microsoft wants to revive WPF's popularity, it has to spinoff a variant of it where XAML's capabilities don't span beyond UI. Having said that, I still believe Winforms is the best and most versatile platform for developing applications and I'm so glad Microsoft keeps improving it.

Great to hear that WinForms is still very high on your agenda! Over the last decade we developed a huge code base around WinForms and we were unsure if Win11 will just slowly abandon it in favor of WinUI/WPF.
Only thing we could wish for is that Visual Studio should not always randomly reorder the designer files, so merging them and comparing changes will be possible (essential for Git).

    • @ericvenneker

Well, similar here, only that we devoted a lot code around WebForm. Any chance that WebForm will resurrect? The client-triggered svr event maybe is not favored to client-side JS, but WebForm is well for composition of markups, so we use it to write very long article which has deep embedded sections. We also use webform to composite controls.

In VS2022 when I go and create a new WinForm project (Core, non-Framework) none of the WinForm controls show up in the Toolbox. I've reset the toolbox, I've restarted VS, rebooted the machine, nothing works. When I "show all" I see the items but they are all disabled / blacked out. When I create a WinForm project using 4.8 Framework, the controls all show up fine in Toolbox and I can drag and drop them just fine onto the form in the designer. I won't even ask about default background color or forecolors I guess. sigh. Should I even mention toolbar colors, menustrip colors, ....

The legacy WinForms Designer for .NET Framework is still there. But we won't innovate for .NET Framework. .NET (what was previously called .NET Core, but we call it just .NET now) is the way to go.

You don;t need a TB. Not at all. For just the WinForms workload, I install it on a Surface First Gen, 128 GByte, 4 Megs for backwards compatibility tests, and it's running fine. It still runs 8.1, although I would not at all recommend that. Win 10 it should be.

I think we should all revert back to VS IDE 2013. You guys made it sure that with each new version, the IDE gets worse. I am using VS on multiple computers and servers, and the problems are the same. I am using VS community and VS entreprise, I am using win 10 and win server 2019. Lame!
IT IS NOT WORKING. 1, it is toooo slow. It freezes most of the time (on all platforms) and 60% of its lifetime it runs at 100% CPU. At first I thought it was Resharper. A couple of weeks ago i reformatted my PC, 32 GB ram, 1 T SSD drive, NVIDIA GTX 1080 card, a Microsoft keyboard and mouse, installed VS community, no Resharper, no other extensions. LAME!
I am thinking changing my whole development environment to Linux or Android.
Oh, and what is it with you guys and multi-monitor systems? I can't seem to open an application on my main window. It never opens where it is supposed to be. The worse is if I have 4 screens open, and I double click an icon, the application will always open hidden behind the screen holding a remote desktop open, wherever that is.
YOU ARE MICROSOFT! I shouldn't be talking about these issues in the third millennium!

You don't provide the latest .NET for UWP but for WinForms. This isn't good.

    • @naycnay
      @naycnay 2 года назад +5

Winforms is significantly bigger than UWP. It''s basically the core of bespoke Windows-centric business software all round the world for decades.
I think Microsoft is been subtly saying they aren't really going to do anything with UWP moving forward and have suggested migrations to Windows App SDK.
