It is obvious that Tommy did pilot the Dragonzord from the cockpit, but Saban definitely could have at least added a few shots of Tommy in the Dragonzord cockpit for the Green With Evil Part 5 episode
This makes more sense than what occured in the actual episode, well done! Power Rangers was notorious for leaving details out.

I always did imagine Tommy coming aboard the the Dragonzord when it was walking away from the city to take it to the next level
Dragonzord is like an improved version of Tyrannosaurus Zord. Longer tail with drill, longer arm with built in missiles

Strangely Dragonzord doesn’t have a finisher attack but Tyrannosaurus does.
Dragonzord only needs Mastadon, Triceratops, and Saber Tooth Tiger to form it's variation of the Megazord. Trex needs Pteradactyl and the other 3 to form Megazord.

It's odd that T-Rex alone could best the Dragon Zord yet the Dragon Zord was supposedly of similar power to the combined zord
