- The growing electricity crisis and inflation are some of the impediments getting in the way of economic growth. The South African economy was jump-started after a couple of years battered by the most severe outbreak of COVID-19. Amid this gloomy outlook, a group of high-ranking lawmakers have asked the White House to move this year's Agoa Summit away from South Africa, as they warned that the country looks set to lose its Agoa status. The economic framework is up for renewal in 2025.

South Africa as a country is not losing much. Companies and individuals of a particular race are the ones who will be losing. Many Africans really don't care much about AGOA. We have experienced segregation in the past. What the USA is doing we are prepared to suffer for it. Let USA sanction South Africa as it always do against any country that does not agree with it. it is actually a blessing in disguise that will teach South Africa to be more independent from these autocratic country.
Very short sighted...you obviously dont have access to the stats or the intellect to comprehend the suffering ordinary South Africans will have to endure
Do you know how the value chain works? The rich will weather the storm, this affects the poor & the middle class more because it limits access to markets that otherwise would bring income into our economy.
With unemployment, crime, poverty where they are a shrinking economy is a recipe for disaster.
Ingorant statement if we loose jobs the poor suffer first not the rich.
@@captainfantastic87 This is exactly how they keep us in check, and how the minerals of the country are not directly beneficial to the poor. Us the poor have to brace ourselves. Anyway we are used to it.
Better to lose agoa than be bullied there is a lot of untapped market in Africa and asia
Even South African journalist are playing to US's gallery.
Always 😂😂😂😂😂
Take your agoa now and leave us in peace
No need to worry You should sign a trade deal with china
Lets just go forward, if we die we die ✊🏿🇿🇦
We never died from injustices from 1652 until 1994….so if US which sided with oppressors
against black South Africans during apartheid, surely SA will survive
Smart guy
The US? Who are the individuals who are doing the blackmailing?
Let the ICC arrest them for extortion.
Lets cut ties, South Africa must claim their mines too, stop American in our mines like Anglo America, let this fund go
100% agree
This just a blackmailing tactics ...
There’s a difference between blackmail and consequences.
If South Africa wants to make common calls with Russia then it should have no realistic expectation of maintaining friendly relations with the United States.
It is not blackmail to demand that friends behave as friends.
Especially not when that friend would be destitute without your friendship.
@@Thegoat152 you dont know what you are talking abt-we have joined brics obviously we will be more close to Russia than the US,it not like we are aiding them in a war or something
😊so mich facts out of this man just straight to the point and yes rhe US bullies african countries alot and it obvious
Dollar must fall
Sell your soul or else loose paper money. What is senseful?
If it is “selling your soul“ not to support an imperialist tyrant actively engaged in a war of aggression, you never had soul to sell.
Well said no need to add, just saying the truth will come out who needs who in the raw material game, we will trade on our terms and prices. New world order.
If is the road which we must take let it be
Give them a hand and the next time they will come demanding the whole arm: that’s typically the behaviour of criminal cartels when you don’t draw the line the first day.
If it was Julies Malema will cut ties in seconds,Mr President Ramaphosa just cut ties we must make sacrifice sometimes
The US is dealing with some different type of Blacks shme in South Africa. Now they’ll see exactly
Who ultimately benefits from AGOA?
Certain individuals mostly whites obviously
This SA journalist has lost his Pride, I can see his mind is still colonized!
He's misleading the public. South Africa cannot survive without the US.
1:35 I would rather remind you that the poultry industry is suffering because of loadshedding, the farmers can't incubate chickens if there is no power. US levies taxes on processed cocoa products, because they have an obesity problem.
Sure the US and Europe can be hypothetical but this guy gjves terrible advice. Our biggest trade partners apart from China is US and European and Russian dont even feature on the top 10. This guy just has a US hatred and not thinking for SA but his own agenda. We need global ties. China will do whats best for them not just Brics as thats who they are.
How do you grow the economy when you dont have customers....this guys is just talking without thinking...how long would it take south africa to recover...
This man is so arrogant I don't think he properly understands the implications loosing USA trade. Very destructive thinking. This is when you don't care about the rest of population and only interest in your own agenda.
The terrifying issue is that this nonsensical propaganda is broadcast to millions of South Africans.
Talk about yourself not us, you will lose not us we have nothing and you got a lot.
@@Jouantiese but you will accept all the propaganda broadcast by BBC, CNN etc...
another "Zimbabwe" in the making
We also export car, platinum, and gold to the US, not just chickens. When those companies are hurt, will China help?
But still they are bullying SA and it obvious what your solution
Those trade deals are not charity. Of cause we need them, however it should not be at the expense of our country's sovereignty. China still remains our biggest trading partner . Bigger than both the US and UK combined.
Let's just hope the other companies investing in South Africa feel the way you do... Sanctions will kill our country at this time.
@@unavanas982 We should brace ourselves. We will feel the hit. It will be worth it in the end.
We can trade within the BRICS community
Money talks...
This guy is utterly and completely clueless
Elaborate please
Give us the clue
look at you, emotional 😂😂
@gcinankosi9744 I will answer for him. EU and US make up 65% trade with us. Since China is a manufacturing hub, they rely on the US consumer to keep buying Chinese goods for their own economy to sustain these levels.
China's growth has also slowed a lot and if there economy goes so does the amount they will buy from us.
In effect if we have a brics currency South Africa will be like the Greece of the Euro zone.
It will make us way less competitive as we can't compete with China and India.
@@tonnylove7039 look at you unable to understand the language you type in
LoL hehas lost his mind...
SA- world champs of shooting itself in the foot
I didn't realize I was watching a comedy channel. Gosh this is laughable😂 You can't even take this logic seriously
I know he made alot of errors but he is right when he is saying SA shouldn't be bullied by another country they already did with that false claim-SA transported firearms to Russia
@Nathi it depends what you perceive as 'bullying'. I think Putin invading Ukraine is a more apt example of bullying
@@joeyackermann3 but SA is taking a neutral stance ,they dont want to support anybody ,this is just business nothing else-nobody is supporting Russia with anything when it comes to wars
@@joeyackermann3 it not like the US is innocent
Us is war machine to kill and destroy look at all the poverty INTHE WORLD at the hand of the USA
Hang up your Gloves already give others a Chance to do whats Right......Our Think Tank has drained
Take a risk on something that is a risk BRICS? Not serious...🤡
Would you rather be bullied by the US
@@nkosinathisibiya600 Exactly. No-one deserves to be bullied into job-creation and $billions in aid.
@@Jouantiese 🤨
@@nkosinathisibiya600SA was never bullied. They signed the contract along with other African countries to be able to export goods to the U.S. duty free. Do you know how much they gain from this contract?
