Yeah! first track give me Ahaa vibes to the 80".. Riverside never release bad album..Bass sound very similar every album..And eastern vibes i really like.
What an album!! It was yesterday's soundtrack.. and now listening with the video! Friend of Foe is so catchy I normally listen to it 2 or 3 before going forward on the album...
One review I read stated that the compositions are much more bass- orientated compared to the band's recent output which is something I definitely hear. Very reminiscent of older Riverside in that sense.
It fades out just as it started sounding like Black Tie White Noise era Bowie....darn it....I've had this Riverside Cd waiting to be spun on my desk all week....but I ain't a touchin it till I've heard it with the Jimster first....just as excited as you with this first side. Just like with Townsend I didn't buy the more expensive cd though...so just the 7 tracks I have. Will download those 2 extra tracks though if they appeal....a lovely way to end a not so great week! Roll on the weekend!🎉

The link to Propaganda is bank on and advance apologies it is referenced in mine. Track 3 is ok but not quite as spectacular as the first two. Great listen along. Love your presentation style. Yup, I’ve been mulling it over since I said that about Propaganda, I think it’s the combination of the sequenced synth parts and the live tracked bass guitar and drums. Sounds wicked!
I haven’t understood those who don’t like the album. Sure, I understand things being subjective, but the argument that this isn’t Riverside is just so wrong. It has so many flourishes of old Riverside plus it has great new elements as well. I found the album to be brilliant. Top to bottom I’ve loved it. My cd book hasn’t arrived yet (next week sometime!) but I’ve streamed it over 20 times since release day. I think the bonus track Age of Anger should have been in the main album track list. Great instrumental. I’m looking forward to seeing them live here in the States in March. EDIT: And Landmine Blast is absolute FIRE!
I finished with a Muse vibe. It was an interesting weekend with a Katatonis release and Cosmografs heroic materials appearing on Spotify. This was the cherry on the cake.
I’ve listened to this over and over again from beginning to end over the weekend. In my opinion this Album is there best by far but Wasteland was top notch as well! This is NO.1 in there discography! Wasteland 2nd! Hard to beat for album of the year. Katatonia’s new one is pretty good as well but this “ Masterpiece”!!! Soen and Riverside are the hottest bands out!!! 🔥
Good evening Jim, I’m curious about this album. Sounds great at the start. I hear eighties synth pop sounds. Duran Duran, Ultravox. Propaganda…yes indeed. I bought the album A secret wish immediately back then after it was released. Second song. I like most of it. The bloody radio voice in between gives me an uneasy feeling; the same uneasiness I get with growling. The rest of the song is bloody good. Third song. ‘Thank you for your cooperation’ 😜 Robocop. Yello indeed. This song makes me feel emotional 😢( one of my best friends died today). Yes, if the rest of this album is as good, I want it.
Just saw that Riverside will be at Neumos in Seattle. If I could be assured all of what they played were like these first three tracks, I might consider going. But, I suspect that's not the case. So far, vocal delivery is wonderful.
I have the album, but had'nt heard it yet. Then saw that you did a video of it. Well.. let's hear it together with u for the first time. And... it is soooo damn good !!! Just.. WOW ! Good reaction Jim.. seems like you liked it aswell.. ;)
They are soooo damn good. While the new guitar sound is different, it blends in great with this slight change in direction. Love it. Can't believe they are charging soooo much for the 7 song download, $17.00. I don't get it!
Given the music I love I really should enjoy Riverside... But there's something odd for me, something off and I can't put my finger on it. It's strange, I really want to like them.
