Video description
Hi all and welcome to a new year!
First off sorry there has not been a video for a while as we have had a new addition to our family. My Granddaughter was born over Christmas and we are settling in to a new routine and enjoying our time spent with her.
This weeks video was a requested one. You asked for an extension to the traditional Dorset buttons so today we are looking at trees and flowers. We explain how to add the spokes correctly and embellishing with cheats French knots. Hope you enjoy it!

Oh this is terrific. Thanks so much. Now the only thing left for me...is to get busy and do it. I'm a bead weaver so the addition of beads will certainly add to my work. Thanks again.
This video was so helpful! The instructions were so easy to follow! Thank you!
Great tutorial! Easy to understand and follow. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and creativity!
I adore this work! Thanks a lot for your clear tutorial. 😻😻😻
I am thankful for your tutorials.
I like a miniature fiddly challenge, these are adorable.Thank you 🌸
I thank you so very much for this great video you made, and definitely will have to give this a try, because adding french knots looks so beautiful 😍
Lovely. I am just getting addicted to Dorset buttons. I'd love to see more of your work.
I had never heard of Dorset buttons before this video, now I am doing my best to try and make some. Thank you so much for giving me a new craft to try. Your buttons are beautiful!!
Amazing!
Your tutorial is amazing, well explained and easy to follow. Thank you so much for it, I love your buttons!!
Those are beautiful!!
Omg these are beautiful.
Love this and am about to try it now! I noticed on a couple of the buttons you had a little scalloped bit - looked almost like a crochet border. Do you have a video for how to achieve that?
Loving these. Your work is so neat. On an ordinary plain Dorset button I can never make the central hob neat enough before I start to weave but I think by doing trees I can alleviate that. Beautiful button designs and thank you for sharing.
I've only made one "wheel" button so far and I also had trouble getting my hub centered. It was close though! I guess we need more practice. :) I'm loving your thought about trees as well. Happy stitching!
Thank you for your very detailed tutorial!
Very lovely and imaginative! Little works of art! Thanks
👍 very clever
Great video! I’m ready to try flowers and trees.
I loved your video but was just wishing it was right-side-up. Beautiful pieces! Can't wait to try!

These look amazing Kathleen. I've been looking for a tutorial like this for a while, so was really helpful. Looking forward to making a start on Dorset buttons. Live in Dorset too!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent
Another great demonstration from you - Would love to see more of your designs - Thank you for showing how you do these.
Loved this video!! But I was hoping you’d show how to do the ruffle around the outside of the circle. You sort of showed how to put beads there, which is great, but I’ve been looking all over for instructions on putting the ruffle around. Do you already have another video showing that instructions?? Please give me the name or links if you have one. But can’t wait to try this tree and flowers for now. Thanks again 😊
🙏🙏🙏💜Hearty congratulations 🎶🎶🎶& loved your thoughtfulness 🎈🎈🎈Thanks with Best Wishes 🍷🍷🍷
love your work , just found you on youtube the other day.. cannot stop watching you
Замечательно! Спасибо за вашу щедрость.💕
I think these are Colonial knots. It’s lovely
These are brilliant! I can not wait to have a go at one. Thank you so much!
So cute. Great explanations and thank you for sharing.
Beautiful work. Tyfs. Hugs Maggie ❤️🤗🇨🇦❤️
I use a lace netting shuttle for the casting, then I just unravel the next length of thread needed, cut it off and add a needle -- saves a lot of time and aggravation, and has the same result.
Also a tatting shuttle would help.
oh gosh you have me wanting to go get the stuff to learn!!! very lovely
I love these!! Thank you for the instructions!!!!
lovelyyy
Loved the tutorial. Have attempted one and it was successful but not perfect so will do another
Thanks for the video, so beautiful.
Beautiful, can’t wait to give this a try, thank you for clear instructions
I can do basic Dorset Buttons but it is really nice to learn new designs, thank you #uk
On one of the tree buttons, how did you hide the brown thread for the trunks around the button rim?
Thank you - lovely tutorial!
Hello my name is Rhonda I’m from New South Wales Australia just love your work going to have a go
i love it. thank you....
Thank you ☺️
Lovely ❤️
really lovely thank you
🥰
I wonder if a very small tatting shuttle would make wrapping the long thread around the ring?
Thankou
Really explained well
glad you enjoyed the tutorial
Many thanks for watching my tutorial
Kathy x
Thank you for sharing. They are lovely.
This is brilliant work! Is this technique possible on a square frame instead of a round?
Absolutly beautiful! What size needle and thread are you using?
What size ring are you using Kathleen? Is the mettle ring washable?
Мне очень понравились Ваши работы. Большое спасибо
I just watched this with my mum, who was fascinated by the buttons...and we were both wondering something a bit weird...how many blanket stitches did you end up having on that button? I know every different ring will be different, but we're just weirdly curious about stuff like that...plus its a good way to guage how much patience one would require! lol
I want to make these ad Christmas tree ornaments. Any suggestions for patterns in the middle?
Do you add a clasp on the back so you can wear it?
I keep getting in à pickle with my French knots !
素敵なボタン刺しゅう有り難うございました。私も、チャレンジしてみます。
Love this, sadly my fingers are not so nimble as they were so find it difficult to sew now. Still like to watch though.
Love these! I am using Anchor embroidery thread, should I use all 6 strands? Thank you x
Yes i would use all six strands for maximum coverage. Then once you have made one try using three strands. Also perle DMC thread is very good or crochet/ lace cotton.
@@kathleenlaurelsagetextiles4432 Thanks so much! Imanaged to make one and I'm so grateful for your tutorial x
These are so beautiful and I am inspired to have a go! I was just wondering about how they are used - for example, can they be made into brooches? How would you go about attaching a back without detracting from the intricate lacy effect? Thank you for any advice.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes they can be turned into brooches by simply mounting the finished ring on to a card or leather circle cut to exact size of ring. The brooch clasp can then be attached to this circle before you glue it to the back. i also use them on birthday cards t like minded people and within other embroidery projects. ive also made necklaces from them as well. have fun
warm wishes
Kathleen
@@kathleenlaurelsagetextiles4432 Thank you, I love your videos and grateful for your advice
Love the button. What needle are you using. ❣️
I tend to use a large eyed blunt ended tapestry type needle to do the wrapping and button holing of the ring and then change to sharps sewing needles when decorating them with embellishments of beads or French knots. x
Could this idea be made into a scarf ring?
Who taught you, where did you learn this Kathleen
