Alex Komarov ha! no freaking way, you are the first person in 5 years to ever know what my picture is from! I have said I will send the first person one of the new British 5 pound plastic notes if you want it let me know.
Michael Simmons as someone who has bleached/dyed my hair a few times. I can safely say the coloring doesn't damage the hair, the bleach however is a different story.
Mahalo for explaining the general composition of makeup. I would love a video on ingredients that may cause reactions. I found out recently that I break out with Avobenzone and Octinoxate (chemical spf). Knowing ingredients to possibly avoid would be very useful. Ps. You look awesome with and without makeup Michael!! Very sporting of you to be the model
+Gabriel Tzukishiro there are ingredients in the EU that are banned from food and cosmetics that America still allows. I usually read labels and check ewg.org but there are also combinations of chemicals that cause reactions in people. Also, the fact that so many makeup companies would rather pay for advertising to hype up a product than make them with higher quality ingredients... Hard to trust things just because they are on a shelf.
No need for therapy. If you watched the video, lead was used in cosmetics at one point. Lead wasn't banned from products till 1978. Even with 32 more years of testing chemicals, there are still subtle long term effects from exposure to ingredients that they are still trying to prove links to. They have found aluminum traces in breast cancer tumors suggesting to avoid deodorant with aluminum as an ingredient, yet 80% of women's deodorant has this ingredient. While it hasn't been proven to be a cause of cancer, the fact that it has a notable presence in tumors is enough of a concern that some women have opted to use men's deodorant, find alternatives, or go without. YOU may not be concerned about products because most of them do not have immediate effects, but there are definitely long term long exposure risks that aren't made public knowledge that some of US are concerned about. Recently a woman in California died of ovarian cancer they believe is linked to her using Johnson and Johnson's baby powder on her underwear for the second half of her life. (Her family was awarded $70 million after her death). As advanced as we hope testing is, as safe as we hope ingredients are... there are always risks with anything you use. No one should have to deal with a debilitating side effect or die because of a product that is meant for fun and not a necessity to survival.
I just try to educate myself on things to possibly avoid. Not everyone lives as cautiously as I do and I'm fine with that. I never mentioned anything about forcing other people to not use these items (banning them). I just wanted to know what ingredients are known to cause reactions or adverse effects so that I can avoid them. Let me be me and you do you boo ;) Ps. my grandmother died of bone cancer and my cousin who was only 24 died of stomach cancer. I just want to see my kids grow into awesome human beings.
This was really fun. It is weird how much wax I use on my face. Having the cut ins with Michael getting his makeup done was a really good decision and made the video more while keeping the informational element I love scishow for
Ellie Parker lip stain only leaves a faint colour on your lips and not a thick layer of product like a liquid lipstick that is designed to be completely opaque
Diego Reig he's emitting orange-hued radioactive elements that are hazardous to human health, breaking apart your DNA, especially in your brain cells, which may result in altering your personality or thought proceses. Pity the very sick man but stay away as you don't want to be affected
I really appreciate the fact that they used the male host as a model. It's a shame that wearing make up is generally frowned upon if it's by men. I think it looks good, and men should have equal opportunities to enhance their looks by cosmetics. Without it being tied to their masculinity. Wearing and trying on different kind of make up is fun, and no one should miss it because of strict gender roles :) sorry for the rant and the possible grammar errors, english isn't my first language. Thanks SciShow for making such great content!
I know it is serval year old now, and I doubt anyone from the team will read this, but I wanted to say thank you. I love this video deeply. It inspired a true excitement and curiosity within me, and I have come back to it many times since I first saw it in middle school. SciShow in general is just such a great resource, but truly this video has been a RESOURCE for me, both personally and actually professionally.
I'm impressed by how little Michael flinched while the eye makeup was going on! I put on eye makeup almost daily, but I still twitch all over the place if I have someone else try to put it on me. :D
So interesting, specially as an artist, helps to understand why certain paints last longer. Plus damn, Michael is so handsome he looks great even with mismatching eye shadow!
Awwww.. I was hoping to see the finished look! It would have been awesome if the video was shot as the makeup was applied. So once MA did eyeliner he had different colors to his eyes.
This is actually really helpful for picking out proper make up for you skin. Didn't know that pressed setting powders used wax. Will have to stick to loose from now on
I have always used eyeshadow, Now that I am more educated, I am worried about what happens when the powder gets into the eyes, however then I remember how dusty our unpaved roads were, and coal dust everywhere.
Evan Rice the most unmanly thing is worrying about manliness... It takes BALLS to do something not associated with traditional manliness. Wusses obsess over how "manly" things are, MEN just do whatever shit they want to do.
Just when I thought Michael couldn't get anymore beautiful
Name nice name nice, name
Alex Komarov ha! no freaking way, you are the first person in 5 years to ever know what my picture is from! I have said I will send the first person one of the new British 5 pound plastic notes if you want it let me know.
your comment made me laugh hard xD
Name agreed.
Your makeup looks so, um, pretty.
I would love to see a similar video about the science of coloring hair.
Alexa M I'd be interested in that
Alexa M Coloring and bleaching would be great to learn. I'm sure it has to be damaging to hair.
Michael Simmons as someone who has bleached/dyed my hair a few times. I can safely say the coloring doesn't damage the hair, the bleach however is a different story.
Alistair Crow Good to know.
Michael Simmons glad to be helpful 😁
michael is my new fav beauty guru
That's a great look, Michael!
HomeWithMyBookshelf i was worried hank made him change his pronouns for a sec
...Implying there's anything wrong with that.
Lendanto I'm not implying anything shut the fuck up
Lendanto Making someone use a pronoun they don't want to is wrong.
Isaac Burrows: boii
He's.... He's beautiful... 😮
Indeed.
I think he looks way better au naturale.
*au naturel
now I want to watch an episode about the stuff we use to remove makeup!
you didn't have to actually put the makeup on, but thanks for doing it anyway
Travis Heck yes he definitely did.
He probably lost a bet with Hank.
just like you didn't have to actually comment on this video...... but thanks for doing it anyway
As a makeup fanatic, all i wanna know is who the fUCK WAS RUINING MICHAELS FACE DEAR LORD
Must be Hank
Tenga Bro one of us has to change...
*fixing
Brionyx lmfao Hank?😭
He himself?
I wanted to see him in full makeup at the end of the video. 😥
You could see him with makeup zoomed out pretty well at 7:32
instagram.com/p/BOP6nRQDrVo/?taken-by=animalcharade
Here you go!
And stockings... in a sausage factory... XD
+Damien Reloaded ... Now I'm wondering how he would look dressed as Dr Frank N Furter .............
THE INTERNETZ THANKS YOU
I want the full picture of Makeup Michael.
As a makeup artist, I desperately wanted to fix all of the makeup examples in this video.
And the fact they werent using brushes just sent me bonkers
Good that you tried them on, the video would've been incomplete without that.

Can we get the behind the scenes on this vid? I bet the commentary was hilarious!
I wanted to see the final results 😄
Michael is the perfect host for this😂👌
Just when you thought you couldn't get more attracted to Michael 😩
This was really fun. It is weird how much wax I use on my face. Having the cut ins with Michael getting his makeup done was a really good decision and made the video more while keeping the informational element I love scishow for
when he mistook liquid lipstick as lip stain a little part of me died
Steph Monk truuuu
Steph Monk omg gurlll so trueee lolllll
Steph Monk liquid lipstick = lip stain
Ellie Parker lip stain only leaves a faint colour on your lips and not a thick layer of product like a liquid lipstick that is designed to be completely opaque
Steph Monk It's all terminology. They are made of similar stuff, I'd bet it's just slightly more dye and maybe denser oil for the liquid lipstick.
He didn't blink throughout the whole video
I'm living for the thumbnail, you're rocking my New Years look lol
OMG YOU PUT ON MAKE UP MARRY ME 😂
U forgot primer!!!!!!!!
Ronson Peters and half the other fullface
Cory Carpenter I meant like they forgot about going into the chemistry of primer
I'm sorry but once you mentioned gem names I could only think of Steven Universe
Lapis lazulies terraform, they aren't part of makeup XD
dentescare I understand my diamond 🔶
Thankfully my life was full of gems before that show.
I went into Minecraft mode XD
ME OMG
Yea an episode like this for hair coloring would be awesome
I love that you're our gender nonconforming makeup model! You look pretty!
My favourite channel talking about my favourite thing, Cosmetic Chemistry. Love it!
Aww Mike you looked beautiful ❤
I didn't know I needed Michael in full makeup until now
When he dated Samantha Ravndahl they made a few makeup videos together.
I love that you demonstrated yourself
oh thats not stock footage, thats you. i was quite confused why there was a moustache.
What... no final reveal?
#MandatoryNarcissiticMontage
why are there immature jokes around this comment section
if you gotta ask you'r sense of humor is malfunctioning.
Puns are objectively superior to that shitty, predictable ad lib based on an old, actually funny, trend that ended a while a go.
i dunno, that chemical make up joke was pretty dank
Why are there immature jokes around this comment section around my anus
Ooops Toontown because he decided to wear fucking makeup
Lol Michael really took one for the team
Love the look Michael! Also love that you demonstrated the look!! :)
But what is the chemistry behind Trump's skin colour?
Diego Reig he's emitting orange-hued radioactive elements that are hazardous to human health, breaking apart your DNA, especially in your brain cells, which may result in altering your personality or thought proceses. Pity the very sick man but stay away as you don't want to be affected
Diego Reig his mom bred with an umpa lumpa
+Diego Reig
Formaldehyde ... same as with Lenin
Just look up a breakdown of orange spray paint.
With Dorito dust on Sundays.

TiinaRaita makeup is bad enough that women use it to hide what they really look like. Don't demean men to be that insecure and pathetic to use makeup.
Why I love actors
@@theywalkinguptoyouand4060 makeup is also used to enhance natural beauty, and it's every individual person's own decision whether to use it or not!
Clothes as well as makeup are gender neutral and I believe more people should learn that! Goooooo Michael!
Woah, my two favourite kinds of videos combined. Thanks folks!! 😍
this video is an international treasure. thanks michael!
i love how the make up was applied on michaels face for demonstration, really fun component for the video :D
Top quality makeup work Michael. Really brings out your cheekbones.
Mad props, Mr. Aranda. It takes a great amount of self-confidence to allow this video to go live.
OMG this has to be the cutest video of SciShow, thank you Michael for sacrificing your face for science, we appreciate it
I wanted to see him in full glam. I never thought he could get more beautiful. Please make it happen.
Szerinted ez nem buzis, Réka?
I really hope you didn't pay your makeup "artist"...
+Leannyly
probably just an unemployed painter
Leannyly probably just someone in the office
They definitely had a team member do for extra fun 😂
I have to wear makeup/look pretty for work, and so this episode was kind of a double-win for me.
Yes! This was wonderfully informative! Thank you!
This episode is amazing and it made my day so much brighter. Thanks SciShow!
Good job staying still and not having watery eyes during the eye makeup. 😂👌
I love this video I've always been curious about what is in make-up. Btw you rock that blue eyeliner!
Michael, you are such a man for talking about a side of makeup we didn't know, or took for granted :-)
so glad sci show is making this kind of content and including us science loving makeup enthusiasts :)
More help than beauty gurus these days. Learned a lot about foundation and powder 😂. Great video !
I know it is serval year old now, and I doubt anyone from the team will read this, but I wanted to say thank you. I love this video deeply. That was a great look for you at the end, you should do a whole episode in it :D
Ok but what's that lipstick shade tho (the second one) because I need it
You should totally do a video with black nails and eyeliner.
I'm impressed by how little Michael flinched while the eye makeup was going on! I put on eye makeup almost daily, but I still twitch all over the place if I have someone else try to put it on me. :D
Michael, you are just fabulous.
Kudos for demonstrating the makeup for us!
Soooooo happy to see this video! Keep it up
A+ for being willing to put on makeup for the video! Looking great!
I appreciate this video so much, combining to of my great joys in life, science and makeup
Thanks for doing this Michael. You're helping us move to a freer culture.
when he went straight in with that orange and no transition colour i wanted to cry
that makeup style on u is quite a look. i love it
Nice touch with Aranda getting makeover)
Okay so I'm a certified makeup artist, and I'm VERY impressed on your makeup knowledge!!
This episode needs a behind the scenes video
I just realized how much Michael does the Chunga-Changa during his videos. XD
I love this!!!!!
So interesting, specially as an artist, helps to understand why certain paints last longer. Plus damn, Michael is so handsome he looks great even with mismatching eye shadow!
He’s so pure I love it
I need to see the blooper reel of Michael getting all that makeup caked on, hahaha
OML I DIDNT NOTICE THE PERSON WITH THE MAKEUP ON WAS HIM
I loved Michael with makeup on!
You look fabolous!! Also very informative hahah
That was much more interesting that I thought it would be. Great topic and well covered. Err so to speak.
Great video! would love to see one on hair products.
Thumbs up to Michael for being the model for the make-up :)
This will be very helpful the next time I drag it up...
Awwww.. I was hoping to see the finished look! It would have been awesome if the video was shot as the makeup was applied. So once MA did eyeliner he had different colors to his eyes.
Mr. Aranda, you do make a wonderful makeup application model.
You should've showed your face Michael! You're so beautiful.
You're my absolute favorite Sci Show host 😊❤
Breaking bad chemistry would be cool, or you can talk about fulminated mercury if you don't wanna teach us how to cook meth...
This is actually really helpful for picking out proper make up for you skin. Didn't know that pressed setting powders used wax. Will have to stick to loose from now on
7:32 Michael Aranda painted up like some cheap floozy of science!
Thetreetroll
Out there in the streets, shaking his goodies for 'likes'.
Pretty sure he's exclusive for Patreon supporters
My Chemical (Romance), my style. Eyeliner is an emo staple.
I'm so happy with this video 💜
one of the best looking idols I've ever seen
great episode 👏👏👏
Thank you, Michael, for modeling. I learned some science on breaking down barriers today.
I loved this episode! :) as a person who wears makeup this was really interesting.
Awesome video! I would love to see one about nail polish.
I have always used eyeshadow, Now that I am more educated, I am worried about what happens when the powder gets into the eyes, however then I remember how dusty our unpaved roads were, and coal dust everywhere.
Michael, you so fabulous.
You can slowly feel Michael's manliness melt away into oblivion
Evan Rice the most unmanly thing is worrying about manliness... It takes BALLS to do something not associated with traditional manliness. Wusses obsess over how "manly" things are, MEN just do whatever shit they want to do.
Evan Rice I can't imagine how fragile your masculinity must be that you would think makeup melts away manliness
Abril Manrique I was making a joke
"Your chemicals, your style."
Someone make that into a shirt
Skincare please! Loved this video!
Looking good, Michael!
When your eye shadows say "do not use near eyes" eh I'll live
Fiona M then there's the ones that say do not use around eyes if you live in usa
I learned way more in this video than I did in any other makeup tutorial lmao
