Back in the day me and my brother would play guilty gear x2 reloaded like crazy. In the end we had certain character grudge match ups. For example we played character equally but when he'd pick chip, I'd have no choice but to pick jam and we'd have epically close matches everytime 💯.
You don't tend to see it, because everything running at that speed would limit counterplay exclusively to hard reads (which would in-turn nerf defensive options to the point that a game would just become rote combo memorizations). Chipp only works, because his smaller lifebar in almost every game makes it so most good combos are touch of death on him.
longtime rev 2 chipp main, I kind of lied to myself for like 6 months about enjoying strive before I finally admitted that it just wasn't for me. I think it's fine that people can enjoy GG through a new title and new people are getting into it, but removing all of his relevant air mobility tools and replacing them with a far inferior one will always feel worse.
As a long time XX and XRD Chipp main, I dropped Strive after 30 minutes on day 1 of launch. Strive took away Chipp's mobility tools/mix-ups (Chipp's ways to get in/out), dropped long combo strings (Chipp's primary method of dealing damage), and slowed down the pace of the game even further than Xrd (Chipp is strongest when he is fastest). There's no motivation to play as Chipp in Strive, no reward for mastery in comparison to XX or even XRD.
I started with strive and I mained zato and chipp in it, I got xrd recently because of roll back and it was on sale but I don't really like xrd zato and chipp that much. Xrd sol is really fun though
I find it funny that Chipps pressure went from "Guess and pray" to "Still guess but its not as bad" to it mostly being "Guess if I do low rekka or high rekka

Slayer's hidden foot tap in Xrd. If you hold forward and spam down he does it super fast. Easier on pad because of access to both the stick and d pad. Also easier on hitbox. Top tier t bag.

I just need to get better at recognizing the situation and knowing that I need to make a guess in the first place, in order to actually start making them.
I mean +R Chipp goes pretty hard but I know what copy of GGST you've been playing because I definitely get fucking mixed up by more than just alpha blades in that game.
Thankfully I never knew about all this godly nonsense, so I'm still out here enjoying Strive as the first GG I "understand" and maybe we'll work backwards. That being said... I love virtually every new character design from Strive so I can deal with the game being a bit tame in exchange for all the good looking characters xD

The most insane part about this is that it can get much higher level than that as well. Sure, this guy was good, but absolutely nothing compared guys like Endou and Samitto. AC+R has immense depth as well a lot of character skill expression, as you had many great players at the same characters playing in completely different ways. Still hurts that Arc Sys felt like they had to tone down the game in Strive, made it lose all these nuances.
Strive is not just a tone down, its a MASSIVE tone down, to the point that a blazblue cross tag character, that is limited to auto combos, have more depth than a strive char
