  • One of the biggest perks of getting good with money is using it to fund your interests - even "frivolous" hobbies, like makeup. However, it's easy for makeup spending to get out of control, especially when we're constantly bombarded with ads and influencer mentions of the Hot New Item. Here's how one woman cut her high-end makeup spending in half - without simply resorting to drugstore products!
“Making It Work” is brought to you by Wealthsimple. Start investing in your future at wealthsimple.c... - our followers get $10,000 managed for free for one year when you sign up for your first account. (Applicable to residents of US, Canada + UK).
Through weekly video essays, "Making It Work" showcases how real people have upgraded their personal or financial lives in some meaningful way. Making your life work for you doesn't mean getting rich just for the sake of it. It means making the most of what you have to build a life you love, both in your present and in your future. And while managing money is a crucial life skill for everyone, there's no one "right way" to go about it - you have to figure out what works best for you, full stop.

    1. Stop buying excess products.
    2. Use up what you have.
    3. Stop watching so many beauty videos; and
    4. Make sensible purchases when buying and not buy into the hype.

Shop your stash tricks (with eyeshadow palettes):
    1. Pick one your eyeshadow palettes and commit to using that palette for a week or a month.
    2. Substitute eyeshadow for blush and highlighter, especially trendy colors like yellow blush.
    3. Pick a RUclipsr you often watch and use what you have to recreate their looks.

I am a make up lover and I love watching beauty gurus online making reviews and what to buy.....
But I have stopped following almost all of them, all of the sudden for two reasons.
    1. MAKE UP CANNOT make your appearance any better if your skin is as bad as it is.. A skin that is not a good canvas would just make you waste products and would... make you look like a joke.
    2. HYPED PRODUCTS MADE ME DISAPPOINT THE MOST. Many youtubers that I have watched recommend a product that they swear are good... but in the end... they are not meeting your expectations... and I end up regretting my purchases. I prefer my own discoveries and surprises of what is good make up product or not..
So if you still want to save up money while still using make up.... the only tip and this is not new at all.. is JUST USE UP PRODUCTS THAT YOU HAVE EVEN if they are sub par good... If you make yourself finish all that make up that you have... your reflection of buying better make up will intensify and it will help you to buy products more carefully next time..

  • @princessdyn

People forget that make up EXPIRES!!! Good skincare habits are much more important.
Eye and eyebrow pencil, mascara, foundation/bb cream or concealer depending on your coverage preference, lip balm, light eyeshadow to double as highlighter, bright lipstick to double as blush. One of each, organic ingredients! I don't need more.

    • @cherrytung

I use minimal makeup but buying became an addiction. I have at least 100 shades of eyeshadow but I used 3 shades of matte brown. I had to buy new pallettes and highlighters.
After a long time I realized that I can't waste my money like this and wanted to save to use in it other place.
Now I have limited stuff but I use every piece almost daily
I have noticed I rarely finish stuff so minis are perfect for me
I think anyone watching this video knows how much they waste on makeup and saving that money would be great.
I still struggle to resist buying the ' new shade'.

Yes! I also follow the "one in, one out" rule. I don't need five foundations. My current foundation works just as well as the new one my favorite influencer is pushing. Same with eyeshadow! It's dramatically cut down how much I spend on makeup. Especially because most cruelty-free/vegan makeup is higher end.

Focus more on skin care... you will not regret it.. even a simple 5 step one will do..
      1. Cleanser
      2. Exfoliate (2-3 times a week) (there are much cheaper products on this line that does the job)
      3. Toner (the step that you can find great deals and you can put a generous amount)
      4. Moisturizer
      5. Sunscreen (morning) and eye cream (night)... you can even make the eye cream as your moisturizer..

    • @rowansaro2458
      @rowansaro2458 5 лет назад +3

Maybe I'm a bit too frugal for my own good, but I'm not the most bothered by it! Sometimes you receive things as gifts or through Ipsy that you don't really care for, or you buy something and try it once or twice before realizing it's the wrong color or is not good for your skin type.
It might also depend on the product. People might be less concerned buying eyeshadow secondhand than, say, lipstick.

I personally only need 3 makeup items - the eyebrow pencil, a lipstick/ lip tint and bb cream/ foundation to look presentable. I could survive on those 3 items alone and I use them very frequently compared to other products.
For lipstick/ lip tints: I only own a few. Coral because it looks nicer given my complexion. Darker shade - for formal events or a sexier look. Other people can't really tell and don't care about what color I'm wearing on a daily basis anyway so I really don't need to own similar shades.

Even after I have tried on a foundation and been colour-matched and it looks fine in the store, I always get a sample to test out the wear, and also use up all my samples (the good and the workable) before buying a full-sized product. Then I can be SURE I'm not just impulse buying because the internet raves about a particular foundation that is PERFECT for dry skin!

my "makeup" tips to save money:
    1. forget about lash extensions, get a lash growing serum (yes they actually work and cost a lot less then extensions). they'll make your lasher super long and look great with a cheap mascara, _and_ your eyes will be more defined and you won't won't feel the need use a lot of makeup on your eyes
    2. focus on caring for your skin, this will have long term benefits but also instant results, and you won't want to wear a lot of coverage products if you like the way your skin looks
When i was in my teens i wore a lot more makeup compared to now (iny late 20's now), i piled on foundation, corrector, multiple eyeshadows, liner, mascara, etc. now my every day makeup is a lot more simple. i do love makeup and playing with colours and looks but for everyday, i simplified my routine to 7 products and 2 tools, a few years ago i probably used around 15 and line 6 different brushes

Bert Visscher it depends on what you mean presentable. For example it is legal and common in the service and retail industries for make up to be a dress code requirement for women. There is only one coffee house in my city that make up is not a requirement in the dress code for the female baristas. Most women that think make up is required for not job related reason is due to how people have talked about them in the street or in high school, especially if acne is still an issue.

The thing is that ppl are so used to seeing women in makeup that those who don’t wear it are often perceived as lazy and unhygienic, which often negatively impacts their careers and social lives, not to mention the self-esteem issues that expectation creates.

For me it’s a personal preference. It’s a daily ritual for me to cover my acne scars/pigmentation with concealer and foundation, to set my oily face with powder, and to contour to “chisel” my face. I use a brow pomade to darken my brows and put false eyelashes on to feel pretty. I feel more focused on my work with a full face of makeup because I feel more confident.

I keep mine 6 months and have had no problems with pink eye from mascara. I use other products until they change color, smell or get used up.

Tip 0: Stop wearing make-up. Who cares what people think of how you look.

A lot of people wear makeup for them. Everything is not about others. When will people understand that??

There's something overexaggerated and fake about this voice over. It makes it less relatable.
