Taking apart a HIWIN HGH15CA linear guide rail carriage - bearing replacement and service part 1

  • I accidentally dropped the Hiwin linear guide carriage and some of the ball bearings just flew away. I decided to take it apart to service it and repack/replace it with ball bearings.
    The ball size for CA (standard accuracy, no preload) was about 3.16 or 3.165mm (my micrometer only reads to 0.01mm accuracy and I don't have a digital micrometer). It is very close to the 1/8th size ball bearing - 3.175mm. I'm guessing that the smaller size is for no preload and 3.175mm is for a pretty heavily preloaded carriage.
    It's for a cnc machine I'm building.

    I used one of those pick up magnets on a pole. They just pop back in. Use a small screw driver to push them. No need to open it up. I got lucky. Found them all.

    I would just buy a new one ! Screw the bearings ! But that is just me. I am looking forward to seeing you finish the surface grinder !

    The manual says you need to push a hot rod through 'the bottom of the tapped hole' to be able to grease the block. Is that white plastic diaphragm what they are talking about pushing the rod through?

    Did you ever find a replacement bearing orderable online? If so could you link info for it?? Hoping to find one for my (non genuine) variant of this that is one bearing short on one block - so annoying!

    Hi, where have you accessed the technical data of the bearing balls? I'm quite desperate for them :D

    Thank you a lot for this video, helped me much to clean up my chinese MGN12 :) Mine are sticking a bit only in one direction, do you have ideas what the reason might be?

    • @roadsidejobshop9287
      @roadsidejobshop9287  7 лет назад +1

      I would check if you don't have any dents in the rails - some of the cheaper MGN's have dents and scratches. If you do - buy some precision stones and lightly clean the surface.

    • @FriedrichKegel
      @FriedrichKegel 7 лет назад

      Thank you very much, i think you are right there are some micro-dents on the boarder of the cylindrical surface where the balls move inside. First I will try to run them in for some hours, maybe the problem is solving itself.

    Just lengthening the video and wasting time with his hmms hahs well so right. Very little sustance for a 19minute video

    Can you give me an idea of how much load these 15mm rails/blocks can support? Or how well they compare to sbr20uu?
    Thanks for the video

    • @roadsidejobshop9287
      @roadsidejobshop9287  6 лет назад +1

      These bearing blocks are very much stronger compared to SBR20UU, because they have more ball bearings and the block supports the load better. But using linear rails, you have to have a much more accurate setup for the machine in general. SBR20UU tolerates some inaccuracy in parallelism and being unplanar a little bit, linear rails dont like it at all.

      Nice to know that. I will make a new structure using my already built CNC router when I get to upgrade to linear blocks.
      Thanks for replying

    I may be a little off topic but some of the Chinese talk about a square carriage. What do they mean? I don't see the difference

    So what exactly is the deal here? Is that re-assembly video ever coming??? They are not exactly complicated devices I just wanted to be sure I am doing it right. Those 2 plastic pieces that go on the inner sides of the carriages I just cant figure out how they are held in place. Other than that I think I am okay.
