When Prince William announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, Kate Middleton, on November 16, 2010, the world was swept into royal wedding fever - and one detail everyone couldn’t stop talking about was her meaningful engagement ring.
The pair stepped out for their official photocall and engagement interview with Middleton dressed in an elegant blue wrap dress by Issa, showing off the enormous sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring once worn by the mother-in-law she’d never know, Princess Diana.
“It’s my mother’s engagement ring,” Prince William said in the interview, adding he “thought it was quite nice because obviously, she’s not going to be around to share in the fun and excitement of it all.”
