Actually most of the time it's only the media makes the bans looks drastic. Take youth gaming ban for example, it only limits gaming time on the underaged accounts registered with real names and ages. However with parents permission, this could easily bypassed by using parents info. So this is only a regulation aid for parenting (easier control for kids gaming time), but not a restriction.

Finally, an open-minded take on China. Thank you, Trevor Noah!
I lived and worked in China for a while. It's amazing. It's pretty much everything we think it isn't. Can you even imagine bike STREETS running parallel to all major streets, with easy traffic signals, and separated from cars by beautiful lines of trees in cities the size of New York? Oh, and just about 2 murders a year...in a city the size of New York? The police literally offered to help me with my bags wherever I went because they were obviously heavy. A train attendant let me stay on a train even though I'd gotten on the wrong one (still went to my city), and an entire crowd in my train car helped me find a seat and a place for my bags. Clean, quiet, beautiful, peaceful, supportive, kind, amazing food, amazing culture. I'm not saying it's perfect (it's not), but demonizing China is ridiculous. In the same city, a woman can walk alone on the street at 2 a.m. safely. Try that in America.
And I wish our government cared enough to stop Big Tech. Who's being "brainwashed" now, America?

Also parents tend to try and get their kids to join some club for sports or something. I fact-checked the restrictions on the online game playing for children on the Chinese official site. First of all, those rules were from a proclamation, not law. In addition, please be mindful that there were no such regulations on both sides (game players & game providers) in China beforeIt. Ok, this proclamation stated that:
    1) Online game platforms are not allowed to provide game payment services for users under 8 years of age.
    2) Only from 10pm to 8am, the online game platforms are not allowed to provide services to minors.
    3) Minors are limited to play video games no more than 1.5hrs on weekdays and 3hrs on weekends.
    4) To be able to deliver the above three regulations, real-name registration is required when children play online video games. (I don't know how they gonna guarantee that though)
    5) Online game platforms are allowed to set up a free trial experience of no more than 1hr for promoting their games and the users do not need to register with their real names during that trial period. The online game platforms are not allowed to repeatedly provide those free trials to the same user within 15 days.
    6) When providing online games for minors, the online game providers should:
-(a) Explore the implementation of the age-appropriate reminder system.
-(b) Comprehensively measure the degree of psychological acceptance of game content and functions, the intensity of confrontation, the degree of cognitive confusion, the degree of possible imitation on violence, the degree of paid consumption, etc.
-(c) Pay attention to analyzing the causes of game addictions, and try to modify the content, functions or rules of the games that might cause such addictions.
    7) Supportively guide parents and schools to fulfill their guardianship responsibilities for minors regarding their online game playing behaviors. Try to help minors to establish a healthy and rational use of online games.

Now I lived in mainland China, I had to clarify that the celebrity fan cultrure in China is totally different from that in the US (I also lived in US for several years). In China, the fan culture in the teenages is the craziest thing I have seen in my whole life, they will colllect money from every child to buy a top ad in Shanghai's landmark building, if you have any offense word of their idol (like Xiaozhan) in social mediea, then thousands of these fanboys will come to your homepage and attack your families, yes, they have some guys in the police team and find out your privacy info. And they will gather together, like hundreds of thounsands people suddenly appeared in somewhere to do sth like against another fanboys group. Almost every adults I know hate these fan culturue and we think goverment is doing right thing
