- The confusing and challenging behaviors children often demonstrate cause parents, teachers, and therapists to ask the question: Is it sensory or is it behavior? The speakers skillfully guide participants through the complex interrelationship between sensory, communication, and behavioral problems seen in individuals.
Parents, teachers, and therapists must be able to understand these behaviors, identify the underlying cause, and develop interventions to alter the behaviors, remediate the underlying problems, and implement these programs in multiple environments.
Through a variety of learning activities, participants will learn to use the Intervention for Challenging Behavior flow chart and the ABC model to analyze why children behave the way they do, sorting out sensory-based problems from other causes. A case study will be utilized to demonstrate how to analyze the underlying problem(s) and design intervention programs that include preventatives, skills development, and reinforcers/ consequences, needed to address the underlying emotional, sensory, and behavioral needs, and build effective coping strategies.
