Cinder might be going crazy or even worse, she might be turning into a Grimm. That Grimm corruption is spreading up to her shoulder, it might take control of her whole body. Remember what Raven said to Cinder???. "You were willing to turn yourself into a monster just for power", or something along those lines.
yes i can see that. for all we know salem did that to her as an experiment. she might not have been the first to have that done to their body. Cinder could become close to immortal as grimm can live for hundreds of years, Cinder could outlive most of the cast
In one way or an other I really think we (the audience) will, at some point, pity Cinder. This needs some reveal of her past but being a shout out of Cinderella she's strongly implied to have known a miserable childhood, and her lines in final episode of volume 7 confirm this. I think we'll know a lot more in volume 8. The condition to her arm is meant (to my point a view) to pity her even more.

If someone needs a backstory badly it's Cinder fall, her character is currently going nowhere and it's hard to sympathise with a character with no motivation and no clear Direction.
All the villains need a full backstory I think tyrain needs a explanation other than his a crazy killer because no one is born like that and I want to know why he is so devoted to Salem as I don’t it’s because she tells him to kill he is got to be getting or repaying something from or to Salem like surely right? You messed something of importance, Watts clearly has a dislike and history with Cinder, rewatch volume 4 episode 1. Maybe Watts knows Cinders identity fitting into Cinders mother being that Atlas scientist that worked with Watts.

The two hypothesis aren't mutually exclusive, Cinder could be the daughter of the scientist AND Jacques Gelé (being depicted as a long time partner of Arthur, he could totaly have been introduced to her by this mean). I don't think it's unbelivable from Jacques to ditch a pregnant woman in order to marry the Schnee Heiress if the possibility was offered to him. It's not easy to determine exact age of the character, but Winter and Cinder could definitely revolving around the same age. Penny was strongly bonded with Winter and the shot with Ruby, Penny AND Weiss suggest Penny and Weiss will also be connected. An interesting triangle relationship between the Schneesters, Cinder and Penny. However it could be a little bit too much, in this case I prefer Cinder being Jacques daughter for two reasons : - With Cinder being Weiss half sister, we should head to an interesting scheme : each maiden would be tied to a main heroin by a strong familly / friendly bond . Ruby and Penny, Weiss and Cinder, Yang and Raven and well, just imagine Illia being the summer maiden... - Being Weiss and Winter half sister, Cinder would be also Whitley's... And could offer him an other "parental" figure to hang on, now he has nothing left, wraping him around her thumb and making him working for Salem (after all, isn't he officially the heir of the SDC ?). This could create a stakes for the Schneester : drawing Whitley back to the right side, fullfiling their mother's wish.

That's an interesting theory. Actually her being Atlesian is indeed implied in her line with Winter. It might add up with the fact that we don't know her true last name, I don't remember who said it but there was a doubt on Fall not being her real last name because it was too much a coincidence with her getting the Fall Maiden's powers. It makes me think of two background stories: -she has no known last name, she lived as an orphan after the death or abandonment of their parents besides the poor of Mantle. -she decided not to use her last name anymore to burn the bridges with her parents or their legacy. Then again two versions of why Fall as a last name: -Salem gave it to her when she designed her to be the next Fall Maiden. -She chose herself that name as an oath to bring the end of the elite world leading to the fall of Beacon and maybe, the fall of Atlas. She may see herself as the Fall soon to be happening.

I really like the theory about this woman being Cinder's mother. You also mention the possibility that her mother was from Mantle and was brought to Atlas to work on Penny, and I'd like to roll with that a bit further. Perhaps Cinder and her mother were discriminated against by the Atlas elites for their poor background, them being seen as lesser people who cheated their way into the city of Atlas. Maybe this led, directly or indirectly, to the death of her mother. I feel like plenty of shows (and in life), if a member of a marginalized group becomes and elite through legitimate merit, they are still often discriminated against.
I like this theory, though I think it is still possible for Cinder to be a Schnee: Just not exactly. Jauc has black hair that he dyes white, and Cinder wouldn't have white hair or glyphs semblance because her mother was not a Schnee, and Jauc is not a Schnee (he married into and took the Schnee last name) so technically Cinder wouldn't be a Schnee, she'd be whatever family line Jauc came from or family line her mother came from. Sorry for the ramble.
jacques doesn’t dye his hair white, it turned white with age, because if you look at the photo of himself in his study, his hair is black, but greying.

I like to think that Cinder’s mother loved her in the way a mother should love her child and she also had a father now that you bought up the idea of a husband. Cindy had a loving family that was torn away from her due to her mother being made to work on the P.E.N.N.Y project albeit forcefully by working long nights and days that eventually blended together and having her mother die from exhaustion, Cindy’s father was a huntsman and was devastated by his wife’s death. But he pressed on and continued to give Cinder all the love he could give and other things doing his best to fill the hole left by his wife’s passing when Cinder awakened her semblance her trained her in combat without her going to any academy. One day he was called on a mission and never came back home leaving Cinder to wander the streets looking for him only to overhear that her father had died, she wandered the streets empty, angry and longing for revenge after wandering Cinder eventually meets Salem where she would utter her signature words: “I want to be strong, feared and powerful”
It sounds weird to hear someone say that Cinder and Penny would be somewhat related, but after your explanation of how it does sound like they are related. You make really good videos man.
Then we learn Watts is her father. Thus the animosity and dynamic between them become a lot more substantial with Watts thinking his own daughter a failure. Or he doesn't know. Either way disgraced father and daughter.
He strikes me more as the annoying uncle who knows who her father is, being his brother Jaques (my theory). Maybe Jaques was with her mother and they had her in mantle, but he left her to get Willow and become part of the elite. Cinders mother has to get a job, and works with Pietro at his mantle office, getting noticed by Atlas Tech, and has to spread her time between Cinder at home and the PENNY project in Atlas, and slowly dies from exhaustion or maybe in the first attempt to animate Penny. Cinder would have been left alone on the streets, maybe only knowing her faceless father traded up to be elite, giving her a hatred for them because they also cost her her mom's life.
I dont think shes small enough compared to watts. Plus, neo would be way too old at the current timeline to be this agile af character aaaand its possible that cinder knows more about neo than we do and she referred to her as "girl" in v6
Cinder could be both the child of Jacques and that scientist. Or if just the scientist then maybe she was left behind in mistral because the lady did not want to raise a chlid cause it would interfere with her work.
I think one of the most interesting character in the show is cinder, I really liked all the battles she has being part for, but I think a backstory would make her a rich character
Additional theory: because of the maiden powers penny is a kind of a cyborg without human flesh but with a human soul (which is part of the Pinocchio story)
Why can't we have both? Why can't Cinder be the illegitimate child of Jacques and this female researcher who helped build Penny. Cinder may not know who her father is and only know he is up in Atlas. Also if Cinder is the daughter of this researcher it would explain how she came to Salem's attention, Watts would know her and maybe who her father is. The illegitimate and angry daughter of one of the most powerful men in the world would get Salem's attention more then some random angry girl.

We don't have enough of their backstory (Cinder Fall, Jaune, Pyrrha, Weiss, and all characters but most or few characters had backstory but still) during RWBY Volumes, we already know Salem and Ozma in the past, but still not enough of their past everything including family members.
Totally agree for Cinder and Jaune. We had strong foreshadowing, we need to know more. I agree a bit less for Weiss. We have a pretty clear view of where she comes from, and she's undeniably the character who's already have evolved the most.
Nothing Cinder says should ever be taken seriously. She's a delusional psychopath. I suspect she's Jacques Schnee's bastard. That wouldn't make her a Schnee, since Jacques isn't a Schnee. She may not even know. Also, Cinder didn't know about Penny until she got into Ironwood's files. She's also shown no particular animosity towards Penny beyond Penny getting in her way. Also, CRWBY has said that Neo will do something so terrible the FNDM will never forgive her (or so I've read)
I actually listened to Unicorn's idea before this (Unicorn of War - Thomas Vaccaro, another RUclipsr) where there were some parallels between Cinder and the Schnee family. Being the corrupt Cinderella, Weiss and Winter would be the evil stepsisters. And Jacque had black hair in his youth so should the mother of Cinder have black hair Cinder would've ended up with black hair either way. Apart from the opposite fire and ice conflict they have I think the 'secret love child' theory would be a good plot twist.
I’m 95% on board with Cinder having a connection to the scientist woman in the photo, and indirectly has that connection with Penny. 5% on board with the Schnee family illegitimate child theory because anything can happen, but her appearance definitely doesn’t reflect at with all the other kids. But I’m very interested to find out what happens with Neo, as her and Roman Torchwick are my favourites haha (although I like most characters to some extent). The fact is, in the serie, the physical type of a Schnee is predominant, jut as their semblance. Winter, Weiss, Willow, Whitley and Nikolas have all the same type : white hair and blue eyes. But Jacques is not a Schnee, he's a Gelé. We have two clues of what he looked like in his prime : the familly portrait and the portrait in his office. On the familly portrait Jacques is depicted with a greying hair. He already has the same costume, haircut and mustache (even if it was dark back then) as now. According to Whitley age, the portrait was made less than 10 years before the serie's timeline. On this second portrait, undeniably younger as Jacques on the first portrait, we don't have 100% certitude of who is depicted, but we can note he wears the exact same costume and haircut as him (and a growing mustache)... And it's in his office, just in front of the door, it's litteraly the first thing a visitor will see. So it's a pretty sure bet to assume it's a portrait of young Jacques Gelé. The familly portrait tends to confirm this : in his prime Jacques was a dark haired man (even darker than the scientist woman). So for the hair, it goes pretty well with Cinder, in fact. And last but not least, Cinder most certainly has a father and a mother... And yes, the scientist woman is a good candidat due to her traits. And this woman knew Athur Watts who knew Jacques for a long time. Honestly cant wait for any type of backstory regarding Cinder because it'd be a lot more interesting for us to be able to sympathize with her more, even though I reallly dont want just a straight redemption arc type thing.
so when you really, really think about it raven, penny and cinder are all sisters and are all daughters of Ozpin and Salem because they are maidens meaning there has been a total of three family fights those being Ozpin vs Salem, raven vs cinder and cinder vs penny (+ winter), then that means that yang in a way, being the daughter of the spring maiden, is Salem's granddaughter hypothetically and Qrow is Salem's son technically obviously being ravens brother, also means penny now has two dads being Ozpin and Pietro and a mom being Salem. this also means Salem is basically trying to kill her own children to get the maiden powers. This is all hypothetical. Now just imagine that whole family dilemma, but Winter Schnee actually became the winter maiden (it just makes things a lot more confusing)

She is the opposite of Penny a loving person even tho she was made. I love this Cinderella idea and of the sisters. Penny is a powerful android, and Cinder wants power. During the C2E2 convention (held last February), Miles Luna revealed that they (the writers) had to push back the reveal of a certain character's backstory for THREE Volumes but that it won't be pushed back forever either :) I'm pratically certain that this character is Cinder and that we're gonna get (finally) her backstory in V8 (I kinda see how we could have it revealed in V5).
Perhaps during the time of James looking for "new ideas" to protect Atlas the woman in the photo(and or Watts) could've gone to Jacque for money and aid to help their own projects, but during the "paladin incident" she might've died while Arthur escaped into hiding. This event leaving Cinder orphaned and blaming Atlas for what happened. So Jacque could still be the father of Cinder since he isn't a Schnee by brith(and the photo of himself in his younger self in his former office) and as to why Cinder didn't have Neo kill him well thats sort of thing Cinder would want to do herself and maybe she doesn't want to admit to herself(and others) that scum is her father. Weiss and Winter being her half-sisters could still work that way but I could also see Penny being her sorta step-sister. Thanks for pointing out the woman in the photo I didn't notice at all.
I still think penny should have stayed dead, not because I hate her, but because her coming back tells me that the writers will literally retcon a character back to life when they feel like it.
Given we all immediately thought Watts was the guy in the pic, and given the similarities with Cinder, I definitely think she could be her mother. Expanding on what you said about the line "you Atlas elites are all the same", I think that could include her mother as well, especially if her mother did a pretty bad job of raising Cinder and was "too busy with work" whenever Cinder wanted her attention, especially prioritising the creation of Penny. I think it would be an interesting dynamic with Cinder distancing herself from her mother as "An Atlas elite" who didnt care about her or Mantle and only the "powder hoarding" creation of Penny. Regarding Neo, I think it would be great for Penny to be like a friend/mediator for team RWBY. As sort of both robot and human and able to logically process different points of view, I think it would work out really well. I wouldn't want her to really join the main crew's it is such a switch from her character arc, but maybe Penny could help Neo forgive Ruby in regards to Roman's death while still not really being on friendly terms. This ties in to what I think might happen with Neo in vol 8 and later if she decides to abandon ship and break ties with Cinder. While being a bit of a psychopath in some ways I dont know ow if she really has it in her to join Salem and her crew. She had a purpose with Roman but even though he was the bad guy he wasn't being evil for the sake of being evil, more like a slick backstreet boss getting by by using underhand methods. I have a feeling she might disappear for a bit after volume 8 or at least not hang around the group, maybe she will go back to Vale and try to continue something similar to what she was doing with Roman, and the gang will see her there at the final stand against Salem, unless your theory about Torchwick is true and then she would stay with him after they reunited.
Ok, now you are talking I remembered something.... In some versions, the step sisters were so willing to became the chosen maiden that they literally cut of parts of their body (most specifically foots) in order to fit the glass shoe. Cinder is doing almost the same thing (she let Salem put that Grimm parasite in her hand, so when Ruby used her eyes, bye bye arm. Also instead of start using a mechanic arm like Tyrion's tail, she substituted it for a Grimm arm.... Those parallels are becoming very good '-'
Not directly related but related to Atlas and episode 8. My theory is Salem subjugated Atlas and in doing so takes over the communication tower. She uses it to demo her power, freak out the entire world and start a massive grim effect... thoughts?
Agreed about the subjugation of Altas part, I also believe ironwood will surrender to Salem in a effort to save Altas, he will serve her to some degree. Salems time in Altas will involve hunting down penny to get the relic. As salems puppet, Salem should use ironwood to declare war on the other 3 kingdoms to cause more division.

Well if she is Jacques daughter it probably could work. Remember in V4, Weiss said to him, "A family you married into." Jacque isn't a schnee by blood, only marriage. And Qrow says this as well. That he married Willow and changed his last name. So if she is his daughter, it would have to be before he married Willow. Making it Cinder, Winter, Weiss, Whitley.
I think going with this should be a "corruption" of Cinderella not necessarily making Cinder the evil step sister but as what Cinderella could be. In the original Cinderella story or at least a lot of tellings Cinderella wasn't super poor and unable to have nice things until she was left with an "evil" stepmother that usually takes all the resources for her and her daughters and uses Cinderella as the servant which if this is her mother it could be a similar story about her biological parent no longer being there and the new caretaker hording all the wealth and power "starving" Cinder until her fairy godmother Salem comes to give her not just the amount she's used to but more than she can imagine but instead of it being fueled by love it's by heartbreak and hate, Cinderella loss a good home and family so she was granted an kingdom and husband that adores her Cinder loss a good home and family so she takes a world and lives that fear her.
If some characters end up being swallow by the Grimm whale, maybe penny and neo would be from those who will be eat by this whale. And i have the sentiment that's Cinder will end up being in this Grimm too at some point
I know you mean Cinder being a Schnee as in her being related to Winter, Weiss, Whitely via Jacque but considering that Jacque actually married INTO the Schnee name I don't think Cinder can be referred to as a Schnee by lineage or law. If she is Jacque's illegetimate child, she's technically a Gele? if anything since as of now the Schnee is really a matriarchal family(family name, its inherent prestige, signature power and looks comes from the mother's bloodline) despite Jacque being the supreme ruler of it, so it is really not a name for HIM to give just for being related by blood to HIM.
You know I think I got an idea because of you. It could be that cinder maybe was the daughter of a dust shop or copany owner. Because during the vital festival Flint spoke with Weiss how Weisss father ciked his father out of business. The same thing could have happened with Cinder. Her father got ciked out and suddenly think get a turem for the worst not just for Thier money but also for Cinder's Family. That's maybe way she holds such a groch against the higher people of atlas There are many ideas for Cinder's past but I guess RWBY will tell us sooner or later.🤗 But I think You're idea is even better 😄
My theory is that you are correct about it being Cinder's mom but that she is also going to be related to Ruby's mom, like a half sister or something making Cinder and Ruby cousins or something. I have zero proof other than that RT seems to be doing the whole small world thing, everybody knows or is related to the main cast in a very close way. That and it would make a dramatic twist that I could see RT going with.
This might sound random, but you mentioning the theory that Cinder might be a Schnee reminds me of the theory going around in the My Hero Academia fandom that Dabi is Shoto Todoroki's brother, which obviously holds more weight and is more likely true then the Cinder Schnee theory.
Another parallel could be how Cinder and Penny could end up being a repeated history of Ozma vs Salem, since in their first battle Ozma's magic was green and Salam's was red, and Penny's is also green and Cinder's, well isn't exactly red but is still close enough.
Ya know on the Cinderella Illusion I really think her being the ugly step sister is right on the money, as I don't think Cinder is Cinderella at all. As Raven says "and a name so perfect she probably picked it herself" which is implied to be right on the money. Also like the ugly step sisters cinder in a way lost a body part to better fit the role she wanted (I know she didn't cut off her own arm but it's hard not to draw parallels to that and the sisters cutting off their toes/heels to fit in the glass shoes). Also, if this lady is Cinders mom it really doesn't rule out the Jaque illegitimate child angle. It takes two to tango after all (tho I also don't really buy the theory)
I love all the theories about the line that Cinder said to Winter but in my opinion I think people are over thinking it too much. I mean the theories could likely be true but when I listen to that line I just hear another villain one liner. Great theories tho 😊 Edit: I'm starting to believe there was more to that line but most of me still thinks that there was nothing to it.
Maybe Cinder went to a prep school to become a huntress, and when she applied for Atlas Academy they denied her application, and she took it as they thought she wasn’t strong enough to make it.
Willow actually is the one with the Schnee name. Weiss, Winter, and Whitley got their traits from her. Jaques, as has been stated before, married into the name and actually has, or had, black hair based on a portrait in his study. It could still be possible that he had an affair with the woman in the picture, which would still play into Penny and Cinder being step sisters as well. If Jaques did have an affair and a child came of it, he most likely wouldn’t want anything to do with them because it could tarnish his (no longer existent) reputation. If the mother died, again playing into the Cinderella story, Cinder would’ve been left alone, hating the father that wanted nothing to do with her and hating Atlas because she has no other reference to what other Atlesians are like.
Possible Cinderella correlation: In the original Grimm Cinderella, the step sisters were willing to cut off parts of their feet in order to fit them inside the slipper. Now we don't precisely know how Cinder lost her arm, though I seriously doubt self-mutilation was involved. Even still, like the step sisters, Cinder is willing to go to extremes (grafting Grimm onto her body) in order to obtain power. Overall, I'm having a hard time with the theory that Cinder is in some way connected to Penny.
@ Nonestica It is implied that this happens at the same time, but the cause is never stated outright or shown on screen. In Volume 4, Chapter 1, The Next Step, we see Salem's inner circle talking about the events at the end of Volume 3: Watts: Well, the girl with the Silver Eyes. Hazel: Yes, we've dealt with their kind before. How is it a novice was able to best one of us? Watts: My thoughts exactly. Even without her new power it should have been effortless. Salem: It is because of the Maiden's power. That being said, I can't think of any plausible reason for a human or faunus (regular, huntsman/huntress, or Maiden) to be affected by a Silver Eyed Warrior. Silver Eyes were used to hunt Grimm for centuries, and nothing so far in the series that I know of (directly or indirectly) explains how or why a Silver Eyes would affect a Maiden in any way. Prior to the fall of Beacon, Cinder was (as far as we know) 100% human.
You know cinder would make a good spider-man villain with her talk about power and spidermans origin about the reabonsiblity with power and how both are kinda similar being that they used to not have power but now they do only difference is Peter learned responsibly while cinder did not and in a way it would be like spiderman fighting a versions of himself that didn't learn responsibly Just an idea I had
The scientist you were talking about at roughly 4:19, I paused the video and looked at the pictures closely. The scientists hair looks grey, or light black, whereas Cinder's is totally black. The scientists eyes are brown whereas Cinder's are golden on the bottom and red towards the top. The scientists head seems longer up and down wise, and Cinder's...looks not as long and more round than the scientists. Oh, and Cinder's chin depending on what angle you look at it looks closer to the scientists chin... although the chins are arguably the closest things that line up. Is there anything I'm missing?
Hi recently found you watch a couple of your videos enjoying the theory, time will tell if the theory becomes true or not, a theory I've had for the longest time I can't remember which volume I had the theory but I believe that Crow is actually Ruby's father.

Kind of funny, oppensent of a story and fairytale. Cinderella was know to have hardship living under her evil stepmother and stepsisters meanwhile remaining a kind person. In the original story within pinokio. He was a wooden poppet made all wrong choices and, from a point of view, a jerk. Now, we watching reverse rolls, Penny base off pinokio is kind person throughout hardship. Meanwhile Cinder base off Cinderella is a jerk making all wrong choices.
Cinder might be going crazy or even worse, she might be turning into a Grimm. That Grimm corruption is spreading up to her shoulder, it might take control of her whole body. Remember what Raven said to Cinder???. "You were willing to turn yourself into a monster just for power", or something along those lines.
yes i can see that. for all we know salem did that to her as an experiment. she might not have been the first to have that done to their body. Cinder could become close to immortal as grimm can live for hundreds of years, Cinder could outlive most of the cast

In one way or an other I really think we (the audience) will, at some point, pity Cinder. This needs some reveal of her past but being a shout out of Cinderella she's strongly implied to have known a miserable childhood, and her lines in final episode of volume 7 confirm this. I think we'll know a lot more in volume 8. The condition to her arm is meant (to my point a view) to pity her even more.

If someone needs a backstory badly it's Cinder fall, her character is currently going nowhere and it's hard to sympathise with a character with no motivation and no clear Direction.
All the villains need a full backstory I think tyrain needs a explanation other than his a crazy killer because no one is born like that and I want to know why he is so devoted to Salem as I don’t it’s because she tells him to kill he is got to be getting or repaying something from or to Salem like surely right? He was eventually captured in a joint effort between Atlas officers, Mistral officers and a Mistral Huntsman named F. Pickerel. Tyrian was set to be transported to Atlas on an airship. Pickerel insisted that the ship needed more security, but he was ignored and was then removed from the case due to his lack of cooperation.
At 3:31 in the morning, the ship transporting Tyrian was attacked by a swarm of Grimm, despite the area having been declared to have minimal Grimm activity 12 hours beforehand. The pilot, T. Cornetto, made a distress call, and audio from the ship transmitted for six minutes and thirteen seconds. The ship was split in two and crash landed. Cornetto's final words were "What are you? What are you?" and shortly after Cornetto's death, Tyrian was heard weeping and saying "Beautiful" oh my god so beautiful.
Given the evidence of his background, we can assume that the queen of grimm herself had a direct hand in Tyrian's rescue and then presumably recruited him into her inner circle.

You messed something of importance, Watts clearly has a dislike and history with Cinder, rewatch volume 4 episode 1. Maybe Watts knows Cinders identity fitting into Cinders mother being that Atlas scientist that worked with Watts.
... And Watts had known Jacques for a long time ... That also could be linked.

The two hypothesis aren't mutually exclusive, Cinder could be the daughter of the scientist AND Jacques Gelé (being depicted as a long time partner of Arthur, he could totaly have been introduced to her by this mean). I don't think it's unbelivable from Jacques to ditch a pregnant woman in order to marry the Schnee Heiress if the possibility was offered to him. It's not easy to determine exact age of the character, but Winter and Cinder could definitely revolving around the same age. Penny was strongly bonded with Winter and the shot with Ruby, Penny AND Weiss suggest Penny and Weiss will also be connected. An interesting triangle relationship between the Schneesters, Cinder and Penny. However it could be a little bit too much, in this case I prefer Cinder being Jacques daughter for two reasons :
- With Cinder being Weiss half sister, we should head to an interesting scheme : each maiden would be tied to a main heroin by a strong familly / friendly bond . Ruby and Penny, Weiss and Cinder, Yang and Raven and well, just imagine Illia being the summer maiden...
- Being Weiss and Winter half sister, Cinder would be also Whitley's... And could offer him an other "parental" figure to hang on, now he has nothing left, wraping him around her thumb and making him working for Salem (after all, isn't he officially the heir of the SDC ?). This could create a stakes for the Schneester : drawing Whitley back to the right side, fullfiling their mother's wish.

That's an interesting theory. Actually her being Atlesian is indeed implied in her line with Winter.
It might add up with the fact that we don't know her true last name, I don't remember who said it but there was a doubt on Fall not being her real last name because it was too much a coincidence with her getting the Fall Maiden's powers.
It makes me think of two background stories:
-she has no known last name, she lived as an orphan after the death or abandonment of their parents besides the poor of Mantle.
-she decided not to use her last name anymore to burn the bridges with her parents or their legacy.
Then again two versions of why Fall as a last name:
-Salem gave it to her when she designed her to be the next Fall Maiden.
-She chose herself that name as an oath to bring the end of the elite world leading to the fall of Beacon and maybe, the fall of Atlas. She may see herself as the Fall soon to be happening.

I really like the theory about this woman being Cinder's mother. You also mention the possibility that her mother was from Mantle and was brought to Atlas to work on Penny, and I'd like to roll with that a bit further. Perhaps Cinder and her mother were discriminated against by the Atlas elites for their poor background, them being seen as lesser people who cheated their way into the city of Atlas. Maybe this led, directly or indirectly, to the death of her mother. I feel like plenty of shows (and in life), if a member of a marginalized group becomes and elite through legitimate merit, they are still often discriminated against.

I like this theory, though I think it is still possible for Cinder to be a Schnee: Just not exactly. Jauc has black hair that he dyes white, and Cinder wouldn't have white hair or glyphs semblance because her mother was not a Schnee, and Jauc is not a Schnee (he married into and took the Schnee last name) so technically Cinder wouldn't be a Schnee, she'd be whatever family line Jauc came from or family line her mother came from.

I like to think that Cinder’s mother loved her in the way a mother should love her child and she also had a father now that you bought up the idea of a husband.
Cindy had a loving family that was torn away from her due to her mother being made to work on the P.E.N.N.Y project albeit forcefully by working long nights and days that eventually blended together and having her mother die from exhaustion, Cindy’s father was a huntsman and was devastated by his wife’s death.
But he pressed on and continued to give Cinder all the love he could give and other things doing his best to fill the hole left by his wife’s passing when Cinder awakened her semblance her trained her in combat without her going to any academy.
One day he was called on a mission and never came back home leaving Cinder to wander the streets looking for him only to overhear that her father had died, she wandered the streets empty, angry and longing for revenge after wandering Cinder eventually meets Salem where she would utter her signature words:
“I want to be strong, feared and powerful”
It would be odd if ruby learned that her mother had another daughter Cinder
there are two possibilities I see
1) Cinder is going insane
2) Cinder is an illegitimate Schnee
The two possibilities are far from being mutually exclusive... But Cinder might be a illegitimate Gelé instade of a Schnee...

He strikes me more as the annoying uncle who knows who her father is, being his brother Jaques (my theory). Maybe Jaques was with her mother and they had her in mantle, but he left her to get Willow and become part of the elite. Cinders mother has to get a job, and works with Pietro at his mantle office, getting noticed by Atlas Tech, and has to spread her time between Cinder at home and the PENNY project in Atlas, and slowly dies from exhaustion or maybe in the first attempt to animate Penny. Cinder would have been left alone on the streets, maybe only knowing her faceless father traded up to be elite, giving her a hatred for them because they also cost her her mom's life.

I think one of the most interesting character in the show is cinder, I really liked all the battles she has being part for, but I think a backstory would make her a rich character

Additional theory: because of the maiden powers penny is a kind of a cyborg without human flesh but with a human soul (which is part of the Pinocchio story)
Why can't we have both? Why can't Cinder be the illegitimate child of Jacques and this female researcher who helped build Penny. Cinder may not know who her father is and only know he is up in Atlas. Also if Cinder is the daughter of this researcher it would explain how she came to Salem's attention, Watts would know her and maybe who her father is. The illegitimate and angry daughter of one of the most powerful men in the world would get Salem's attention more then some random angry girl.

Either because she is forced by magical means or maybe by threat...do what I want or I kill your daughters threat. It would be a gut punch to Ruby and Yang if they saw Summer standing beside Salem.

I wonder if Watts is Cinder's step/father. It would explain his disliking towards Cinder. He wanted and genius kid to follow in his foot steps. But he got a (used to be) smart and now tunnel visioned and full on power hungry kid. And her mother left her with Watts as she either died or went on to work on the future of the kindom and the world (Penny). And through Watts, Cinder was found by Salem.

We don't have enough of their backstory (Cinder Fall, Jaune, Pyrrha, Weiss, and all characters but most or few characters had backstory but still) during RWBY Volumes, we already know Salem and Ozma in the past, but still not enough of their past everything including family members.
Totally agree for Cinder and Jaune. We had strong foreshadowing, we need to know more. I agree a bit less for Weiss. We have a pretty clear view of where she comes from, and she's undeniably the character who's already have evolved the most.
Nothing Cinder says should ever be taken seriously. She's a delusional psychopath.
I suspect she's Jacques Schnee's bastard. That wouldn't make her a Schnee, since Jacques isn't a Schnee. She may not even know.
Also, Cinder didn't know about Penny until she got into Ironwood's files. She's also shown no particular animosity towards Penny beyond Penny getting in her way.
Also, CRWBY has said that Neo will do something so terrible the FNDM will never forgive her (or so I've read)

I actually listened to Unicorn's idea before this (Unicorn of War - Thomas Vaccaro, another RUclipsr) where there were some parallels between Cinder and the Schnee family. Being the corrupt Cinderella, Weiss and Winter would be the evil stepsisters. And Jacque had black hair in his youth so should the mother of Cinder have black hair Cinder would've ended up with black hair either way. Apart from the opposite fire and ice conflict they have I think the 'secret love child' theory would be a good plot twist.

I’m 95% on board with Cinder having a connection to the scientist woman in the photo, and indirectly has that connection with Penny. 5% on board with the Schnee family illegitimate child theory because anything can happen, but her appearance definitely doesn’t reflect at with all the other kids.
But I’m very interested to find out what happens with Neo, as her and Roman Torchwick are my favourites haha (although I like most characters to some extent).
Side note: I really hope Torchwick is alive and first found you through your analysis of that possibility!

The fact is, in the serie, the physical type of a Schnee is predominant, jut as their semblance. Winter, Weiss, Willow, Whitley and Nikolas have all the same type : white hair and blue eyes. But Jacques is not a Schnee, he's a Gelé. We have two clues of what he looked like in his prime : the familly portrait and the portrait in his office.
On the familly portrait Jacques is depicted with a greying hair. He already has the same costume, haircut and mustache (even if it was dark back then) as now. According to Whitley age, the portrait was made less than 10 years before the serie's timeline.
On this second portrait, undeniably younger as Jacques on the first portrait, we don't have 100% certitude of who is depicted, but we can note he wears the exact same costume and haircut as him (and a growing mustache)... And it's in his office, just in front of the door, it's litteraly the first thing a visitor will see. So it's a pretty sure bet to assume it's a portrait of young Jacques Gelé. The familly portrait tends to confirm this : in his prime Jacques was a dark haired man (even darker than the scientist woman). So for the hair, it goes pretty well with Cinder, in fact.
And last but not least, Cinder most certainly has a father and a mother... And yes, the scientist woman is a good candidat due to her traits. And this woman knew Athur Watts who knew Jacques for a long time. See where I'm going ;)

so when you really, really think about it raven, penny and cinder are all sisters and are all daughters of Ozpin and Salem because they are maidens meaning there has been a total of three family fights those being Ozpin vs Salem, raven vs cinder and cinder vs penny (+ winter), then that means that yang in a way, being the daughter of the spring maiden, is Salem's granddaughter hypothetically and Qrow is Salem's son technically obviously being ravens brother, also means penny now has two dads being Ozpin and Pietro and a mom being Salem. this also means Salem is basically trying to kill her own children to get the maiden powers.
This is all hypothetical.
Now just imagine that whole family dilemma, but Winter Schnee actually became the winter maiden (it just makes things a lot more confusing)

I love these theories❤️❤️❤️ I agree with the fire and ice parallel we saw with Winter, but now that Penny is the ice maiden we see it clearly. She is the opposite of Penny a loving person even tho she was made. I love this Cinderella idea and of the sisters. Penny is a powerful android, and Cinder wants power. That could be why, she wants to be better than her sister. And ya I think they wanted us to see this pic of the women. This is very cool ❤️❤️❤️
During the C2E2 convention (held last February), Miles Luna revealed that they (the writers) had to push back the reveal of a certain character's backstory for THREE Volumes but that it won't be pushed back forever either :) I'm pratically certain that this character is Cinder and that we're gonna get (finally) her backstory in V8 (I kinda see how we could have it revealed in V5).
Perhaps during the time of James looking for "new ideas" to protect Atlas the woman in the photo(and or Watts) could've gone to Jacque for money and aid to help their own projects, but during the "paladin incident" she might've died while Arthur escaped into hiding. This event leaving Cinder orphaned and blaming Atlas for what happened. So Jacque could still be the father of Cinder since he isn't a Schnee by brith(and the photo of himself in his younger self in his former office) and as to why Cinder didn't have Neo kill him well thats sort of thing Cinder would want to do herself and maybe she doesn't want to admit to herself(and others) that scum is her father. Weiss and Winter being her half-sisters could still work that way but I could also see Penny being her sorta step-sister. Thanks for pointing out the woman in the photo I didn't notice at all.

Given we all immediately thought Watts was the guy in the pic, and given the similarities with Cinder, I definitely think she could be her mother. Expanding on what you said about the line "you Atlas elites are all the same", I think that could include her mother as well, especially if her mother did a pretty bad job of raising Cinder and was "too busy with work" whenever Cinder wanted her attention, especially prioritising the creation of Penny. I think it would be an interesting dynamic with Cinder distancing herself from her mother as "An Atlas elite" who didnt care about her or Mantle and only the "powder hoarding" creation of Penny.
Regarding Neo, I think it would be great for Penny to be like a friend/mediator for team RWBY. As sort of both robot and human and able to logically process different points of view, I think it would work out really well. I wouldn't want her to really join the main crew's it is such a switch from her character arc, but maybe Penny could help Neo forgive Ruby in regards to Roman's death while still not really being on friendly terms.
This ties in to what I think might happen with Neo in vol 8 and later if she decides to abandon ship and break ties with Cinder. While being a bit of a psychopath in some ways I dont know ow if she really has it in her to join Salem and her crew. She had a purpose with Roman but even though he was the bad guy he wasn't being evil for the sake of being evil, more like a slick backstreet boss getting by by using underhand methods. I have a feeling she might disappear for a bit after volume 8 or at least not hang around the group, maybe she will go back to Vale and try to continue something similar to what she was doing with Roman, and the gang will see her there at the final stand against Salem, unless your theory about Torchwick is true and then she would stay with him after they reunited.

Ok, now you are talking I remembered something.... In some versions, the step sisters were so willing to became the chosen maiden that they literally cut of parts of their body (most specifically foots) in order to fit the glass shoe. Cinder is doing almost the same thing (she let Salem put that Grimm parasite in her hand, so when Ruby used her eyes, bye bye arm. Also instead of start using a mechanic arm like Tyrion's tail, she substituted it for a Grimm arm.... Those parallels are becoming very good '-'
Not directly related but related to Atlas and episode 8. My theory is Salem subjugated Atlas and in doing so takes over the communication tower. She uses it to demo her power, freak out the entire world and start a massive grim effect... thoughts?
Agreed about the subjugation of Altas part, I also believe ironwood will surrender to Salem in a effort to save Altas, he will serve her to some degree. Salems time in Altas will involve hunting down penny to get the relic. As salems puppet, Salem should use ironwood to declare war on the other 3 kingdoms to cause more division.

Well if she is Jacques daughter it probably could work. Remember in V4, Weiss said to him, "A family you married into." Jacque isn't a schnee by blood, only marriage. And Qrow says this as well. That he married Willow and changed his last name. So if she is his daughter, it would have to be before he married Willow. Making it Cinder, Winter, Weiss, Whitley.
I think going with this should be a "corruption" of Cinderella not necessarily making Cinder the evil step sister but as what Cinderella could be. In the original Cinderella story or at least a lot of tellings Cinderella wasn't super poor and unable to have nice things until she was left with an "evil" stepmother that usually takes all the resources for her and her daughters and uses Cinderella as the servant which if this is her mother it could be a similar story about her biological parent no longer being there and the new caretaker hording all the wealth and power "starving" Cinder until her fairy godmother Salem comes to give her not just the amount she's used to but more than she can imagine but instead of it being fueled by love it's by heartbreak and hate, Cinderella loss a good home and family so she was granted an kingdom and husband that adores her Cinder loss a good home and family so she takes a world and lives that fear her.
If some characters end up being swallow by the Grimm whale, maybe penny and neo would be from those who will be eat by this whale. And i have the sentiment that's Cinder will end up being in this Grimm too at some point
I know you mean Cinder being a Schnee as in her being related to Winter, Weiss, Whitely via Jacque but considering that Jacque actually married INTO the Schnee name I don't think Cinder can be referred to as a Schnee by lineage or law. If she is Jacque's illegetimate child, she's technically a Gele? if anything since as of now the Schnee is really a matriarchal family(family name, its inherent prestige, signature power and looks comes from the mother's bloodline) despite Jacque being the supreme ruler of it, so it is really not a name for HIM to give just for being related by blood to HIM.

You know I think I got an idea because of you. It could be that cinder maybe was the daughter of a dust shop or copany owner. Because during the vital festival Flint spoke with Weiss how Weisss father ciked his father out of business. The same thing could have happened with Cinder. Her father got ciked out and suddenly think get a turem for the worst not just for Thier money but also for Cinder's Family. That's maybe way she holds such a groch against the higher people of atlas

My theory is that you are correct about it being Cinder's mom but that she is also going to be related to Ruby's mom, like a half sister or something making Cinder and Ruby cousins or something. I have zero proof other than that RT seems to be doing the whole small world thing, everybody knows or is related to the main cast in a very close way. That and it would make a dramatic twist that I could see RT going with.
This might sound random, but you mentioning the theory that Cinder might be a Schnee reminds me of the theory going around in the My Hero Academia fandom that Dabi is Shoto Todoroki's brother, which obviously holds more weight and is more likely true then the Cinder Schnee theory.
Another parallel could be how Cinder and Penny could end up being a repeated history of Ozma vs Salem, since in their first battle Ozma's magic was green and Salam's was red, and Penny's is also green and Cinder's, well isn't exactly red but is still close enough.
Ya know on the Cinderella Illusion I really think her being the ugly step sister is right on the money, as I don't think Cinder is Cinderella at all. As Raven says "and a name so perfect she probably picked it herself" which is implied to be right on the money. Also like the ugly step sisters cinder in a way lost a body part to better fit the role she wanted (I know she didn't cut off her own arm but it's hard not to draw parallels to that and the sisters cutting off their toes/heels to fit in the glass shoes).
Also, if this lady is Cinders mom it really doesn't rule out the Jaque illegitimate child angle. It takes two to tango after all (tho I also don't really buy the theory)
I love all the theories about the line that Cinder said to Winter but in my opinion I think people are over thinking it too much. I mean the theories could likely be true but when I listen to that line I just hear another villain one liner. Great theories tho 😊

Willow actually is the one with the Schnee name. Weiss, Winter, and Whitley got their traits from her. Jaques, as has been stated before, married into the name and actually has, or had, black hair based on a portrait in his study. It could still be possible that he had an affair with the woman in the picture, which would still play into Penny and Cinder being step sisters as well. If Jaques did have an affair and a child came of it, he most likely wouldn’t want anything to do with them because it could tarnish his (no longer existent) reputation. If the mother died, again playing into the Cinderella story, Cinder would’ve been left alone, hating the father that wanted nothing to do with her and hating Atlas because she has no other reference to what other Atlesians are like.
Possible Cinderella correlation: In the original Grimm Cinderella, the step sisters were willing to cut off parts of their feet in order to fit them inside the slipper. Now we don't precisely know how Cinder lost her arm, though I seriously doubt self-mutilation was involved. Even still, like the step sisters, Cinder is willing to go to extremes (grafting Grimm onto her body) in order to obtain power.
Overall, I'm having a hard time with the theory that Cinder is in some way connected to Penny.
@ Nonestica It is implied that this happens at the same time, but the cause is never stated outright or shown on screen. In Volume 4, Chapter 1, The Next Step, we see Salem's inner circle talking about the events at the end of Volume 3:

Watts: My thoughts exactly. Even without her new power it should have been effortless.

The "treatment" to which Salem is referring is the Grimm hybridization (later revealed towards the end of Volume 5), not Cinder's Maiden power. Now the dialog I transcribed above comes directly from the episode, so I have yet to fully explain Salem's line "It is because of the Maiden's power." That being said, I can't think of any plausible reason for a human or faunus (regular, huntsman/huntress, or Maiden) to be affected by a Silver Eyed Warrior. Silver Eyes were used to hunt Grimm for centuries, and nothing so far in the series that I know of (directly or indirectly) explains how or why a Silver Eyes would affect a Maiden in any way. Prior to the fall of Beacon, Cinder was (as far as we know) 100% human.

The scientist you were talking about at roughly 4:19, I paused the video and looked at the pictures closely. The scientists hair looks grey, or light black, whereas Cinder's is totally black. The scientists eyes are brown whereas Cinder's are golden on the bottom and red towards the top. The scientists head seems longer up and down wise, and Cinder's...looks not as long and more round than the scientists. Oh, and Cinder's chin depending on what angle you look at it looks closer to the scientists chin... although the chins are arguably the closest things that line up. Is there anything I'm missing?
Hi recently found you watch a couple of your videos enjoying the theory, time will tell if the theory becomes true or not, a theory I've had for the longest time I can't remember which volume I had the theory but I believe that Crow is actually Ruby's father.

Kind of funny, oppensent of a story and fairytale. Cinderella was know to have hardship living under her evil stepmother and stepsisters meanwhile remaining a kind person. In the original story within pinokio. He was a wooden poppet made all wrong choices and, from a point of view, a jerk.
Now, we watching reverse rolls, Penny base off pinokio is kind person throughout hardship. Meanwhile Cinder base off Cinderella is a jerk making all wrong choices.
